I agree with Phil.
The other nice thing about a dip stick is that I can immediately gauge how
much oil I've used since the last check and how much to add. Unless that
function is imbedded in the otherwise specious electronic version it's an
overcomplication like an o-Drive (oil Drive).

I remember seeing people at Buttonwillow trying to top off the oil in a
Porsche 996 TT.  The sequence went something like this:

1. Turn car on, and go down a couple of menu levels in the car computer to
oil indicator.  If oil is at the right level, you're done, otherwise
continue on.
2. Turn off car, open engine bay, and put in some oil. 
3.  Close up car, and go to 1, except you have to wait for a little bit
for the oil level stabilize. 

They must have repeated this 3 or 4 times before they were done.  It was a
new car, so perhaps they didn't know what the meter calibration was.
