Re: What can we do to prepare for a DISASTER? Hi, is your solution open source?
How do you interoperate with others? KieranRECA Foundation uses opensource
solfware on our Internet Ready Computers that are Pentium II's or better
donated from the community. RECA is a Microsolf Authorized Refurbisher and can
buy Windows 2000 operating system for $5.00. We have a local Internet Provider
that donates dial up internet accounts for 6 months to the low income families.
On these computers are free solfware for security, photo editing, web creation,
etc. We have a very simple reason why we don't use Open Source as an operating
system, it takes too much time to set up the computers and train the people to
use them. About every 3-4 years we have the local linex user group see how long
it takes to put together a reuse computer to distribute, and they still can't
make this happen for under 2-3 hours for each computer. Pentium II's are still
quite capible of using the Internet, doing
homework, and learning about computing in your own home and own time. Please
