Starting with FrameMaker 2019, FrameMaker is 64-bit so you can throw more RAM at it. I suggest 32 Gb at a minimum. There is also a faster PDF engine starting with 2019. To be sure that it will improve your process, you may want to download and install the latest trial and see what kind of improvements you get.
