Herman _________________ Indonesia, Asia's only OPEC member, has been struggling to find new oil reserves. It mostly stumbled in its efforts to lure investors' interest in other oil blocks this year. "We will open for tender eleven oil blocks mostly in offshore East Java in 2003 in addition to 15 areas which have been offered for tender this year but were not taken up," Purnomo told reporters. "I am optimistic the (eleven) areas will attract investors. We need natural gas to supply growing energy needs on Java," he added. The vast archipelago held tenders for 17 exploration areas at the beginning of 2002 but only two were taken up, an official at the ministry said. The official said the oil blocks included eight located in offshore East Java, two in onshore central Sumatra, and one in offshore and onshore East Kalimantan. Indonesia produced 1.12 million barrels per day of crude oil in November, unchanged from October. The country also produced 145,000 bpd of condensate in November, compared with 150,000 bpd in October.
