Don't do that, initrd is overloaded as it is now, especially with initmod, which is heavily overloaded and contains stuff it should not (if it is needed at all). For example, not every LEAF box needs traffic shaping modules, neither are iptables modules necessary in _all_ LEAF boxes. In the past these were optional for a reason.
