We do not know, if the problem, that we cannot change the PowerPlay
settings with the Linux Tool (aticonfig --lsp) are a problem of the
BIOS or the driver/tool itself.

The linux Xorg flgrx driver must provide functions to set PowerPlay,
but the driver does this only, if there is special support from the
VGA BIOS.

On a MacBook Pro Core1Duo (first generation) the tool works.
I have access to HP with a Core2Duo and X1600 and it works there too.

The Mac is in one way special. The VGA BIOS is part of the legacy
(emulation) framework of EFI and so there maybe a problem with the
way the VGA BIOS is accessed. But if it work under Windows (which
will use the legacy VGA BIOS too), it's a problem of Linux driver.

It would be nice, if you can confirm, that your are able to change the
PowerPlay settings (i.e. underclock the chip) with the Windows CCC
tool on a MacBook Pro Core2Duo...
This would prove, that the only problem lies in the ATI Linux driver.

 Sven
