In my world this is a moderate activity list. I get to the list mail
and news groups I follow 2-3 times a day and how much time I spend
varies. I am fairly free with the mass delete on threads that have
strayed or are not of interest. oddly enough I almost always check in
on the OT threads as those are the ones that really bring the
communities into focus.

I think that i scan about 60% of everything that comes in read about
half of that and delete the rest on the basis of the subject line or
past experience. everything that comes to me by email is filtered
into a sub folder of some sort so if i take a day or week off of list
mail I do not miss my personal email in a mass and when I get to the
lists folders it is quick and easy to sort through the sorted topics.
It would probibly be more efficient if I were to read lists every few
days.

I always read through the whole collection before i do replies as it
some times saves being the 32nd to say yes that can work and also
gives me time to not send off flames or silliness that should either
not be sent or should be sent private email. (some times it gives me
time to hone an insult rather than typing Oh yah?)

I think having list filtered into their own folders and the messages
sorted by topic saves a pile of effort.
