Hello Michael, Yes, I feel pretty strongly that we shouldn't hard code instrument 10, be it that we do as I suggested. You feel pretty strongly that you don't want to have to deal with the additional overhead of dealing with people who change instrument 10 from a fixed instrument to a logical instrument.
With that said, my skin in the game at Rosegarden just isn't what it use to be, though I'm still fairly passionate about it and its future. I don't think guaranteeing that I will become the logical instrument FAQ queen is the answer here, but I do respect the fact that you typically are the defacto person to answer these questions -- a pretty thankless job.
