RE: Template Not Found

2005-04-27 Thread Christian Watt
I am sending this one more time hoping for an answer

Template Not found-
Option 1: use IIS to redirect all 404 errors to a cf page. I can't do
this because I am using URL rewriting for Search Engine friendly urls.
http://somedomain.com/newsitepage.html/r/1/f/3

Option 2: use missing template handler in cf admin. This does not work
because I am not using the .cfm extension on the current site, nor on
the new site being developed. I can change this for the new site, but
does not help with handling these errors for pages not found from the
old site after this one goes live which is why I am here in the first
place.
http://somedomain.com/oldsitepage.html?r=1f=3 does not exist and will
not execute the missing template handler

http://somedomain.com/oldsitepage.cfm?r=1f=3 does not exist, but will
pull the missing template handler

Option 3: either some fix for Option 2 so that non .cfm pages will get
processed by the missing template handler, or another option I am
missing.

Can anyone help  Please

Christian

RE: Missing template

2005-04-26 Thread Christian Watt
I realize this and have done so. I can not use IIS and redirect the 404
template there because I am using url variable rewritting for search
engine friendly urls. Basically, my front page will work, but
everything after that is seen as a missing template, even though it
really isn't.

I have used the missing template successfully before. I can not get it
to work now though and I have no explanation why.

The CF administrator setting for missing template handler is only for
missing CF templates. Go to yoursite.com/abcdefg.cfm and you should see
it.

To get it to catch all missing files on your web site, you will have to
find your web server's equivalent and point it to your 404 page.

How could you do that. In MX 6.1 they removed that setting, right???
This is not a developers addition. I have a couple of valid MX 6.1

RE: Out of Memory

Andy,
Check the number of records being returned by your queries. I had this
problem and no matter what you turn the JVm Heap size up to, it will not
fix it. There is no good way to track this down. What I ended up doing
is after every query ran, I logged the number of records returned. I
discovered that one query was returning over 90,000 records everytime
and the more often it ran, the more outofmemory errors I was getting.
Hope this helps.

RE: CFMAIL and mass mailings: problem?

2004-09-02 Thread Christian Watt
Asim,
1) You do not need to worry about sending 25000 messages at once.I
ship between 700,000-900,000 every month.The main thing is to not have
cf spool the messages.As of 6.1 you can set cf to send the message
directly to your mail server.I have quite a bit of logic and radius
lookups, but we average around 1,000 email a min.

2) In order to see which ones fail, you have to choices, both of which
should be used.
A. make the reply address a mailbox nobody checks, then use cfpop to
access that mail box and parse through the email, what you can not
automate recording, have that forward to someone.You want to look for
things like 'mail box full', undeliverable, on vacation, I can go on and
on, but you can send it, start looking at the messages through a reader,
then build your page as you go.Run the parser, then look to see what
you didn't get.Personally, I use Perl for this.I get much better
performance than using cfpop.

B.Use a mail server that will log failed deliveries.I use Mail Engine
from Lyris, but you are looking at between $7k-$8k.There are others
out there, but they will record to a text file or db during the smtp
communication that a message failed.You can set up some server that
won't log to a db to send a message also, then you simply parse that box
as above.

The main thing to remember is that some mail will fail during the
initial send, others you won't know until their mail server tries to
process the message.This will happen if they have a gateway mail
server that simply receives email for a particular domain, then tries to
forward it on to mail server that actually knows who has a mail box and
it's status.

Hope this helps.

2004-09-02 Thread Christian Watt
I forgot that in my last message, Yes, use a regular _expression_, and you
will get past cf just fine.
If you are going to continue to ship messages, I suggest that you log
the bad addresses so that you don't process them every month as well.
If you remove, bad email address, hard undeliverables (mail box does not
exist), and soft undeliverables (mail box full), you will probably drop
between 5-10% of the emails you have to send next time.Those numbers
are on the low side as well.As stated earlier, this depends on how
clean your data is, but don't be surprised if you numbers of
non-delivered mail are higher than that.

	 The big thing you need to look out for is invalid email
addresses and
	 such because that will kill the cfmail loop and thus kill all
of the
	 emails going out.

	John,

	Does invalid e-mail addresses mean e-mail addresses that
simply are
	not e-mail addresses, or e-mail addresses that are valid in
format, but
	do not actually exist at the other end?

	In other words, I would call

	even though there is most likely no such address on the yahoo

	Is this how you are defining valid?

 I have tried most of these, and everyone one of them will fail on a
particular mail server.I have looked, and can not find an RFC that
stipulates a proper way.This is the only one that I have found to
work about 98% of the time.I refrain from trying to use the proper
name anymore though, because of the issues around it.

	While you are on the topic of email formatting, I have seen
addresses
	formatted the following ways inside the cfmail tag:

	[EMAIL PROTECTED]
	[EMAIL PROTECTED] (my name)
	[EMAIL PROTECTED] my name
	my name [EMAIL PROTECTED]

	I think I even saw

	My name [EMAIL PROTECTED]

	These formats have varying degrees of success. I recently
fixed a website
	where all the addresses where:

	my name  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

	...This would work sometimes and sometimes it would not. It
turns out that
	the emails were being relayed through a load-balancer to more
than one smtp
	relay server. Some of them could handle the format and some of
them
	couldn't.The question is, was the email format screwy or where
there just
	some misconfigured email relay servers?

	What is the proper standard for including the descriptive
portion of the
	email address?

Yes, you are correct, but the requesting IPAddress has to be in the
debugging IP Addresses.otherwise IsDebugMode returns false.This
brings up an interesting question though, if my ip is not in the list
then I don't get debug information and debug mode is turned off, so why
is debugging being enabled on a production machine bad?This is near
the top of my page also.I would also like to know of some way to
return the query as well.And yes, I understand I can rewrite all of
queries as strings, but was really hoping to not do that since most of
them are going to become stored procs pretty soon anyway.

RE: Memory Issues

2004-08-20 Thread Christian Watt
Pete,
 So far this is what I have come up with.Macromedia has had me
running OptimizeIt from Borland.I do not see any classes increasing in
there memory consumption.The only common thread I can see right now is
that when the memory jump, Old Gen GC jumps as well.Once the Old Gen
returns to a normal level, the memory does not.
Example:
Memory : 125mb
Old Gen: 10MB
Spike
Memory: 806mb
Old Gen: 231mb
---Old Gen Returns
Memory: 620mb
Old Gen: 8mb

This is the only common thread.Could there be an issue with the
garbage collector not actually releasing the memory???

Peter,
 No joy on increasing the young generation.I set it to
-XX:NewRatio=3 and I added the -XX:+AggressiveHeap on the machine that
has 2 procs with hyper-threading.No cpu issues until the memory
exceeds the 750mb mark and the Old Gen in JVMSTAT explodes at the same
time.I did a Load test against the machines last night after making
these changes and adding the reconditions on the Forum article:
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=
69threadid=856745

I ran the load test with 150 users over a 30 minute period and
everything ran smooth.This morning I am only seeing around 10-15
simultaneous users and having issues.This is really getting
frustrating!

RE: Memory Issues

2004-08-17 Thread Christian Watt
Peter, thank you so much for that link.Although that does not seem to
quite be my problem, it has pointed out some metrics that I have used,
along with some others that I have found that have a direct correlation
to my memory explosion.I am going to include an excerpt from my
current post in the forums so that anybody here that may have seen this
before, or have any idea where to go from here can help as well.Anyone
that helps solve the issue, I'll have a beer, or stronger, waiting for
you at DEVCON :-)

[Metrics out below]

As you can see, I am not getting the scheduler thread drop, but my
memory jumps from @150mb to over 500mb within a few seconds and then if
you look at the proxy output, the DelayHighCon (Requests delayed due to
high concurrency, {delayRq}) jumps as well. I can not see any rhyme or
reason to the numbers either. Sometimes I'll have 35 busy, and 12
delayed, sometimes 5 busy and 40 delayed, and sometimes 8 busy and 4
delayed. Is there somewhere else I should be looking???What in the
world would cause activity like this to happen.We obviously are not
looking at very many users here, although I will get well over 100
simultaneous users with no issue at all at times as well.

Christian,

Are you caching anything in cfquery?I'm thinking that maybe your max
total cache for cfquery might be set too high...

Also, are you using ODBC or JDBC drivers?

I could be that the garbage collection for event scheduler isn't working
here and it's piling up (as in the discussion on MM forums from my
previous post)?

No.I am not using anything, as far as I can tell, that would cause
memory to be held at all.Although some of the logic behind my pages is
fairly extensive, there is nothing that is really that complex.
CFquery, CFStoredProc, Client variables (Which I switch from session
thinking that was the issue, unfortunately no change), arrays and
structures.I so some WDDX wrapping now so that I can store Arrays and
Structures in Client Variables, but this is after switching from session
variables where the issue already existed.I don't have any queries
that returns any more than maybe 50-100 records, and there really isn't
a lot of information in those record sets.There can be a record set
that has a bit of information in it, one row, but again we are only
talking about a 2-3 page print out of text.Hopefully this gives a
little more info.

Peter, I appreciate the link, that does give me a way to see what is
going on right now through CF, but I am using performance monitor to see
this real time.I can watch it happen, but I have no explanation for
why it is happening, which means I can't fix it.

Memory Issues

2004-08-13 Thread Christian Watt
I am having a huge issue with memory right now.I have turned off all
session and application variables.If I get more than 50-75
simultaneous users, my memory starts to explode rather rapidly from
around 150mb to over 750mb for the jrun service.Two problems here, 1)
even though I have set up multiple instances, when the memory on one
jrun service exceeds the assigned -Xmx value, all instances seize to
work as well.2) I can not figure out for the life of me why this is
happening.My Jrun servers are clustered and of course the memory
influx does not create a fail over, and even it did, the other machine
will react with the same effect.Someone please help me figure out how
I can troubleshoot this.

Thank You,

Yes, I have installed all of the hot fixes and latest drivers as of
about 2 1/2 months ago.That is when I set everything up as a clustered

	I thought the latest version of the MS SQL Server JDBC driver
was SP3, so
	you might want to check that.

	As for using it, you'll have to install it and then either add
the JAR files
	to JRun's classpath, or copy them to the appropriate lib
directory (where
	macromedia_drivers.jar is now). You'll then have to select
Other when

RE: Memory Issues

2004-08-13 Thread Christian Watt
Let me add to my last post.When the memory jumps, it stays up for 2-3
minutes, sometimes longer.It will usually drop back down to around
175mb -225mb after that period, and then take another jump down a few
minutes later.This wouldn't be so bad if it never jumped over 750mb,
but I can not figure out why it jumping that high in the first place.
Hopefully this helps.

I am now running CFMX 6.1 with all of the latest hot fixes (Multiple
Instances, Jrun Cluster of 2)
Microsoft SQL 2000 JDBC Drivers SP3
All data sources are using the MS JDBC driver
Windows 2003
IIS 6.0
MS SQL 2000 (Two of them on separate machines than the web servers)

If anyone needs additional info, please let me know.I am getting quite
frustrated here as I am sure you all can understand!!!

RE: SQL Query

2004-08-13 Thread Christian Watt
You need to take your Where clause out and include it on the join. I
believe that since you are including the outer joined table in the
where, you are not going to return any records that don't match the
Where statement.

FROM #request.levelTable# l
RIGHT OUTER JOIN #request.levelPricingTable# p ON l.levelID = p.levelID
and (p.productID = #url.productID# OR p.productID IS NULL)

	I tried to ask this on Experts Exchange without any luck ...
maybe one of you guys may be able to help out.

	I am trying to build some pricing levels into our application
and having a hard time with SQL query, here is an explination.

	I have 2 tables:

	LEVELS

	levelID, code, description, status

	LEVELPRICING

	levelPriceID, levelID, productID, Price

	I am running the following query:
	=
	SELECT l.levelID, l.code, l.description, p.price
	FROM #request.levelTable# l
	RIGHT OUTER JOIN #request.levelPricingTable# p
	ON l.levelID = p.levelID
	WHERE (p.productID = #url.productID#
	OR p.productID IS NULL)
	AND l.status = 1
	=

	Basically I have the tables above (let me populate some data:

	Levels
	levelID, code, description, status
	1555Wholesale 1
	2444Gold Member 1
	3222Silver Member 0

	LevelPricing
	levelPriceID, levelID, productID, Price
	1118 30.00
	2129 25.00
	3218 25.00
	42 4227.00

	I want to pull out WHOLESALE AND GOLD MEMBER (Silver is status 0
so it is turned off).

	I should be pulling out 2 recordsIF I am passing URL.PRODUCTID
= 18, I should have 30.00 and 25.00 for wholesale and gold.

	IF my url.productID is 0 (a new product page).Then I STILL
want to pull out the two rows for WHOLESALE and GOLD MEMBER, but the
price should be NULL (since there is not a record for productID 0 in the
levelPricing table.

	SO for productID= 18
	l.levelID, l.code, l.description, p.price
	1 555 Wholesale 30.00
	2444Gold Member 25.00

	For ProductID = 0
	l.levelID, l.code, l.description, p.price
	1 555Wholesale NULL
	2444Gold Member NULL

	On the product building page I would like to list out all the
various descriptions of level pricings from the levels table.IF the
productID matches up, I would like to output the associated price with
the level.IF productID is 0 (or a new record), I would like it to list
out the levels.description with a NULL price.

	This query is not working, if there are prices associated with
the productID it shows the levels, but if there are not pricing
associated with the productID it doesn't show the various levels.

	Any suggestions? I have tried multiple variations without avail.
(Needs to work in MS Access and MS SQL)

Paul,
 I just test this code in MSSQL.Access my not like the or, but this
one works for ProductID of 0 or 18 and works the way you want.I am not
sure if access will like it.You don't have to stipulate the ProductID
as null since you are doing an outer join, also, sorry I didn't catch
this last time, but you want a left outer join, not right.

SELECTl.LevelID, l.Code, l.description, p.Price
FROMLevels l LEFT OUTER JOIN
 LevelPricing p ON l.LevelID = p.LevelID AND
p.ProductID = #url.ProductID#
WHERE(l.Status = 1)

RE: OT- sql format question

2004-08-13 Thread Christian Watt
Eric,
I am going to guess that there is a flaw with the other formula you
have.I did a lot of searching on the best formula to use, and that is
what I came up with.But if you think about it, 324 zip codes in a 50
mile radius, that means that every 2.7 miles you are in a new zipcode.
The only thing that you have to watch out for though is around Lake
Michigan and the Florida panhandle.form places in Wisconsin to
Illinois or NY, or Michigan my come back within 50 miles, of course they
are, if you have a boat, otherwise it is a couple of hundred miles.

CF Flash Connector Urrrr!

2001-12-10 Thread Christian Watt

Has anyone been successful in writing there own code with the connector
yet??? On other forums, have heard of a couple situations, and one I am up
against the wall with myself. I have a page set up quite similar to the
employee directory example, the on(release) code set is almost identical,
the problem is that the flash function to be called once the dispatcher has
returned data, is run at the same time that the dispatcher send parameters
to the server. Therefore, when the data is returned and the onSuccess call
is made, nothing happens. Please, if anyone can offer any assistance, I
would greatly appreciative. You can contact me either on or off list. Code
example below!

In the following example, the message never shows Searching... as soon as
the search button is pressed, you see Got Data - Now populating.
You can connect to 63.117.129.245 to see the code work.

on (release) {
// Create a server dispatcher
if (typeof(serverDispatcher) == undefined)
{
serverDispatcher = new
Object.F2S.Dispatcher(http://63.117.129.245/flashConnector/invoke.cfm;);
}
//resetSearch();
message = Searching...;

// A. Define a result object with success and error callbacks
function SearchResults(){
}
function SearchResult(){
message = Got Data - Now populating;
this.onSuccess = function (result)
{
message = Done Searching!;
//numSearchResults = resultSet.seminfoid.length;
// Loop thru results and show them in the
searchResults movie
//for (var i=0; i  numSearchResults; i++) {
//
_root.SemList.addSemTitle(resultSet.seminfoid[i], resultSet.Title[i], i);
//}
/* Dynamically determine the scrollrate of the
scrollWindow
based upon the number of results returned */

//this.resultViewer.calculateScrollRate(numSearchResults);

// Show the results
//_root.gotoAndPlay(showResults);
}

this.onError = function (msg){
// If an error occurs show it.
message = msg;
}
}

// B. Construct a data packet
var data = new Object();
data.zipcode = zipcode;
data.company = SP;

// C. Invoke the service.
serverDispatcher.call(SemListZip, data, new SearchResult());

Javascript Anyone?

2001-11-30 Thread Christian Watt

I know this is a little off topic, but does anyone know how to disable
CTRL+N and F11 in IE??? I have the right click disabled, but would like to
get rid of these abilities as well. Using it on an internal app only, so I
don't have to worry about Netscape, but if the script someone has includes
that...GREAT!!! Any help or pointers in the right direction would be
wonderful.

Thanks,

CGLOBAL CDATA-SQL

2001-11-14 Thread Christian Watt

Does anyone know what pages process the CDATA and CGLOBAL queries when you
have these values stored in a DB. None of the select statments have
NOLOCK's on them after sending out around 450,000 email this week, those
tables are invoking an awful lot of lock:aquires and lock:release on my SQL
server. It isn't killing it, but there is definatley a performance hit
there. They are not SP's already looked there, they must be hardcoded
queries, that at least utilize the sp_executesql (thankgod). Any help or
further info would be great.

Yes, I realize that, that is why I see a performance hit, what I want to
know is what CF Server page is called to invoke the query so that I can
update it and include no locks on them.

AFIAK all pages will access CDATA and CGLOBAL as these are the client

the datasource going to that database then all page requests will update
them...

RE: CGLOBAL CDATA-SQL

2001-11-14 Thread Christian Watt

Sure you can...It is quite simple to decrypt the server pages and update
them, as long as the query is in fact called from a server cfm page (which I
am willing to bet that it is). I just would like to know if anyone has any
idea which page, or at least which directory it is in so that I can do so.
Will save a lot of time searching for it.

AFAIK the query is made by the server itself and so you cannot change
the query that it calls...

RE: CGLOBAL CDATA-SQL

2001-11-14 Thread Christian Watt

Very good point with about the CFIDE. Considering that, there is a very
good chance that it is a dll. Then I maybe unable to change this at the
query level, unless there is someone out there that knows of a way to turn
this off the the SQL Server level, I have yet to find one.

As for reverse engineering??? Call it as you may. I see it as improving
the performance, something that Macromedia may like. Of course I am sure
that I am truely suppose to create my own app, but then why reinvent the
wheel, isn't that what CF is all about anyway, not doubling up the work. Of
course in no way would I try to profit from this and any warranty would be
voided if it was discovered that I did change something like this, but then
what happens to people that can not remember the Admin password and change
the login checking page to not check so they can get in and reset it??? Is
that considered reverse engineering as well, or that acceptable?

I also doubt that its an encrypted page as you can remove the CFIDE
files...

Thus it must be called from the bin directory which means the server
itself

FW: Deleting a Query???

2001-11-01 Thread Christian Watt

Subject: Deleting a Query???

Does anyone know if there is a way to delete query results, before the page
is done processing???
I have a couple of pages that compile info and send mass emails, but some of
the queries are only needed for a short period, but (correct me if I am
wrong) the results of those queries will stay in memory until the page is
done. Well, when one of the results can easily have over 50,000 rows, that
is a lot of memory that could be freed up and either speed up the other
processes running, or allow more to be run simultaniously. Any answer or
push in the right direction would be VERY much appreciated.

RE: Email Question HELP! FOR BRUCE

2001-11-01 Thread Christian Watt

It has to do with the SMTP relaying options on you mail server. Usually you
do not want to relay mail at all, that way your machine can not be used for
spaming. So to protect against that, you mail server probably has to verify
the email address in the from field actually has an account on that machine.
Depending on the type of mail server you have, you may be able to set it up
to only recieve mail from certain IP addresses, that way an outside machine
can not use your machine as a mail server for spam (for the most part, but
we will not get into that) and you can have your CF server send mail that
does not have an account on that machine.

I had a similar problem

It was the email server. The email server would not forward any email if
it
did not recognize the from address. The from address had to be from an
account on that server.

Most likely it is your mail server that is rejecting the mail if it is not
from your account. You can get more information in the
cfmail logs. You may want to check with your email server administrator.
