[Dx4win] Copy DXL file

2017-11-22 Thread Dusty Chapman
I remember reading that you can't copy some files between the 9.03 and 8.05,
but can I copy my DXL file from ver. 9.03 to ver. 8.05 on another computer
or is that a no-no, with the updated 9.03?

Thank you,

Dusty - K3WC

[Dx4win] Can I changing spacing?

2017-11-03 Thread Dusty Chapman
Is there any way I can permanently resize some of the headers/spacing in
the Logbook and DX spots windows? That way, I wouldn't have to change them
every time I have to reopen DX4WIN.

For example, in the Logbook, I only need one, maybe two spaces in the Conf
& LCnf columns for the "Y", and what prefix is nine characters wide, etc.,
etc...

Thank you,

Dusty - K3WC

[Dx4win] Ver. 9 quit

2017-11-01 Thread Dusty Chapman
After going to help - update for ver 9.02, DX4WIN froze. I cannot start it,
even going into the main file and trying all the .exe files. However, it
does state that I can start to install the program, but since it was already
working, that seems redundant. I got a note from Win 10 saying that

C:\Amateur Radio\dx4w901\dx4win.exe - Windows cannot access the specified
device path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to

access the file. I am the administrator for the computer and I assume I am
still "expert" in DX4WIN. Basically ver. 9.01 seems to have been working
properly since the initial download. Any ideas?

[Dx4win] Ver. 9.01 - TCP problem

2017-10-26 Thread Dusty Chapman
After right clicking in the Packet Window to bring up "Internet Connection"
and going through the never ending lists of stations, and finally finding
the one I wish to connect, it is no longer there(at the top of the list)
the next time I want to connect to that cluster. For that matter, if I had
three or four calls that I connected to occasionally in Ver. 8.05, they were
always at the top of the list too. What do I need to do, to get this
feature back?

Thanks & 73,

[Dx4win] Help with colors

2014-07-27 Thread Dusty Chapman
I just changed over to Win 8.1 and copied my DX4WIN 8.05 folder on a USB
flash drive from Win XP and pasted it into my 8.1. Everything went well
except that I now have no colors in any of the borders except the one I am
using, which is light blue. They are all very, very light gray. Is there
anything I can do to have all of the borders light blue with the one I am
using dark blue as in Win XP?

[Dx4win] Country Window Question

2013-04-13 Thread Dusty Chapman
I have been using DX4WIN since Ver. 1.10, but just recently
decided to print labels since I started chasing the ARRL
DXCC Challenge Award. In the Country Window, if
there is a W under a band/mode, I can double click on
it to see who and how many QSO's I've had on that
band/mode. After I choose a station the send a QSL and
print out the label, the W becomes a M. If I now
double click on that band/mode M, the only call that
appears is the call of the station I sent to for a card. Is there
some setting that I missed to keep all the calls showing?
If yes, please tell me how to change my present settings.
Thanks 73,

[Dx4win] Label printing problem

2013-03-29 Thread Dusty Chapman
I am using Avery type 5160 labels. DX4WIN 8.05.
Printer is a HP photosmart 7900 series.
3 QSL's have been selected
I hit Print QSL labels
Print via manager is selected
QSL method - tried ALL DIRECT
Then, Edit - Then Preview
It shows the heading and 3 QSO's on the label
With lines and no commercial
(the lines appear to extend past the right
end of the label, but do not show that way
on the printed label).

Problem: only two QSO's are printed on the label
And the third QSO is on a separate label.

I used to do this and have another line with 73 etc
de K3WC on the bottom and it all fit on the label

PREFERENCES - tried Rep/Lab at 10 8
and no Messages.

I have read all 5000 pages in the help file on
QSL printing and cannot see/understand where
my problem lies.

Any help sure would be appreciated

[Dx4win] HELP REPORTS DXCC

2011-11-18 Thread Dusty Chapman
Help - I have never used the DX4WIN SUBMISSION feature and probably will
never use it. However, I tried to update my DXCC summary last night and
totally messed up. I had under MIXED - 1 country CONFIRMED, nothing
under submitted, 340 under CHECKED, 341 under TOTAL, and 341 under TOTAL
CONFIRMED.
I wanted to change my CONFIRMED to 0 and my CHECKED to 341. I am not
sure what I did, but I now show 340 CONFIRMED, 1 CHECKED with TOTAL
TOTAL CONFIRMED still where they should be at 341. How do I get them
where they belong?

I still need to change PHO, CW DIG by 1 country. I have done
this before somehow, but I can't remember how I did it and I can't find
anything in the User's Guide to help me.

If I use F5 in my Sorted by date window, I put C in all three columns,
hit the return, save it and nothing. Tried going to File and hit save
and nothing happens.

You would think after using this since Ver. 3 to 8.05, I would have learned
something about this program, but !!

Thanks in advance.

[Dx4win] Possible problem

2011-04-01 Thread Dusty Chapman
I have imported LoTW QSO's from ARRL about 8 to 10 times since 3/13/2011.
After I import, I hit F8 and type LoTW or Import into the Notes for this
QSO and hold the right arrow at the top window to go through them to see if
there are any errors, etc. It always stops at 3/13/2011 with 8P9NX. If I
then hit Add real Time, then the escape key, I can then look at the QSO's
that follow 8P9NX and it shows all the QSO's I've logged and the LoTW
worked/confirmed contacts following 8P9NX. Why do the LoTW contacts stop at
3/13/2011 with 8P9NX. I do realize that 8P9NX has nothing to do with this
anomaly, but that's just where it stops.

[Dx4win] Missing LoTW Confirmations

2011-03-14 Thread Dusty Chapman

After many e-mails with Jim, AD1C it was determined that the DX4WIN.iep file

very pleased to have the problem solved. Jim very graciously and patiently
led me by the hand in order to get the job done. He is truly a credit to
Ham Radio, Thanks again Jim.

As for the Zones not showing up when I had the country confirmed. Da I
was reminded that LoTW confirmations do not apply towards awards from CQ

What should I do, or do again, to get this to show as confirmed.

Next - I also just recently noticed confirmed countries in my Country

[Dx4win] Beam heading problem

2010-05-16 Thread Dusty Chapman
I just figured out why I get false beam headings occasionally. There
doesn't seem to be anything in my manual about this. If you look at the
beam heading for a station that is spotted on 6 meters and there are grid
squares in the Remarks of the spot AND the last grid square is that of the
spotter rather than the station spotted, the beam heading is then to the
direction of the spotter. Is there a way to not have the grid square be the
determining factor for giving a beam heading? I would guess the program
uses prefixes for spots that don't show grid squares.

[Dx4win] DX4Windows/column spacing

2010-01-12 Thread Dusty Chapman
(1) Is there a way to lock the column widths in the window Same Call? I
have made the box the same size as my Country Zone boxes and have
tried to shorten the Time, Band Mode columns which allows me to see the
3 QSL confirmation columns. (With the addition of all the new lines in
the QSO window, I lose a lot of space if I use F5 to show confirmations).
This works great until I have to close DX4WIN. Upon opening it again, all
the spacing is back to square one. I have checked and unchecked File -
Preferences - Screen Leave all windows in original position and that does
nothing.

(2) Is there a procedure to add the different windows so that the last added
are always on top? I only use part of some windows, like world map
sunrise/sunset, but they always come up on top and cover some areas of the
other windows I would like always to see.

[Dx4win] 8.03 Problem

2009-12-14 Thread Dusty Chapman
I just downloaded 8.03 to replace 7.07. I am having a small problem.
When trying to use the CW keyboard, hitting any key or macro, keys the rig
with a solid carrier/tone. The only way to turn it off is to shut down my
K3 or go into the CW menu, hit Settings, then Tune, then Off. Needless to
say I didn't have that problem with 7.07. All settings are the same. The
only thing I did differently was to put 8.03 into C:\Amateur Radio\dx4w803
instead of C:\dx4w803. Before 7.07, all my DX4WIN versions were in the
Amateur Radio\ folder, but directions said to put 7.07 in C:\. I am sure
there was a reason for this. I have loaded 8.03 into C:\ and also it is
still in C:\ Amateur Radio\dx4w803. Can I just copy all the files from C:\
Amateur Radio\dx4w803 into C:\dx4w803 or must I import all the stuff into it
from 7.07?

I also attempted to start LPT Driver so that when I use my Top Ten
Devices, that it will work. I right clicked on the file and then hit enter
but I don't think it did anything. When I rebooted, a message came up
telling me to use that LPT file. I said okay and it disappeared. God knows
if I have it working. Anybody know how I can tell if it is indeed working?

I did not get the error code upon starting the program(still using XP
Prof), so did not try that Microsoft DLL thing. I assume that I don't have
to worry about that. Not being a good computer operator, the instructions
from Paul on that DLL thing about sending it to the browser etc. made no
sense to me at all. Any help on these items will be very much appreciated.

Thanks 73,

Is there a way to store and some how bring back volume control settings?

For example I use AFSK for RTTY and it is a bit of a pain setting the levels
each time as invariably they are not the same as settings for other
activities on the computer.

Was thinking there must be a utility program that will allow these to be
stored and retrieved for different activities.

Frigging with those silly sliders is a royal pain when there is some
interesting DX to work.

What is the point of you adding RTTY to your

week) received conformation for my 100th

Far better to add a facility for recording start

Hi,

Indeed, we did release version 7.01 in Dayton. We decided to delay the
announcement on the reflector so potential new users would get a chance
to see the product and get their questions answered. In the past we have
been overwhelmed with upgrade requests at the booth and the new users
simply did not get a chance to talk to us.

You can download the new version already from the hidden link:
www.dx4win.com/files/dx4w701.exe

Keep in mind that you will need a new license key for this version, and it will
take some time to reply to all user requests. (We all came home late last night
and Steve had two additional hours to drive). So do not call Steve for a day or
so. The website has not yet been updated, so the order form is not yet current.
The file order.txt in the docs directory of version 7.01 is current and contains
the details.

 |
 | I started this thread so I'll chime in a bit more. It seems to me that
 | all the responders so far (including Rapidan thru some private emails)
 | have agreed that processing pre 1975 CW confirmations is a problem with
 | DX4WIN. Some suggestions have been offered to circumvent the problem
 | but all suggestions have required some manual manipulation either with
 | the data itself or the DXCC reports or both. Since this is a known
 | deficiency might it be better to develop some ways to change the DX4WIN
 | internals such that no manipulation is necessary?
 |
 | I've used DX4WIN for several years as my sole general logging program
 and
 | still think it's the best of the lot. But... it's maddening that doing a
 | DXCC CW report is guaranteed to give erroneous results if your log has
 any
 | CW QSOs prior to 1975. (My log has hundreds of them dating back to
 1964.)
 | It's never been clear to me why a program that can instantly retrieve
 IOTA
 | designations from an external file can't use a similar technique to
 filter
 | for DXCC award purposes. Shortly after I began using Version 4, I recall
 | Steve replying to my query about why it couldn't pick up DXCC-eligible
 CW
 | contacts to the effect we can't possibly know the cutoff date for all
 | awards. I would submit that DXCC CW is popular enough that an exception

[Dx4win] DX4Win and FT1000MP

2004-11-25 Thread Dusty Chapman
I went from the MP to the Mark V by just using the same set-up. No gender
changes here and all works well.

I don't know if it is the case for the MP, but my Mark 5 requires a gender
changer on the radio end of the standard cable.

Huh? I wouldn't have put it that way (nonstandard). It is a straight
cable, rather than a null modem or cross-over, but all of these are
standard cables. 73 - John, WA9ALS
