  Hi guys,

Well, last night I had a humiliating experience
 with
our geriatric kitty, Julie, who has
 hyperthyroidism
and is on meds for that. After I got off work, I
 sat
down on the couch to eat dinner around 9 pm.
 Julie
jumped up on the couch, backed her little butt up
 to
me, and peed all over my back, my hair, and the
 couch.
I do believe she did it on purpose, because when
 I
shot up off the couch, she ran over to her chicken
broth bowl in the kitchen and started meowing. It
hurt my feelings and made me angry that she would
 do
this. I have never even heard of a cat doing
 anything
like this. Has anyone heard of something like
 this,
or had any experience with this type of situation?
  Any thoughts?

veterinarians and think they are awesome people, but
we all know there are some veterinarians that at the

is not provided, it's time to hang up the stethoscope.
Pass this on-it might help someone else or save

2006-03-31 Thread catatonya
Congratulations, Wendy!I know how you feel about that felv test. Have all your cats been exposed. Or if she tested positive would you separate her???If not, I'd just get her vaccinated and not worry about the test. If she ever gets sick you can do it then. As long as she's healthy just don't worry about it!If I got another cat now I would probably test.. but it wouldn't make any difference in how I treated it. I probably would just not have it vaccinated. My first positive was vaccinated for felv because we thought she was positive for fiv, but not felv. It certainly didn't hurt anything, but it didn't help anything either. If you really don't want to know then just don't bother, but get her vaccinated because if she's negative you want her to have the
vaccinations going for her.twendy [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi guys,Well, I finally went back to the shelter yesterdaymorning, while my dogs were being snip-snipped at thevets, and adopted that little black kitty that stolemy heart weekend before last. Her face is shaped the same. She hasthe same soft fur and long, fluffy black tail, and isjust shaped the same as he was. It's REALLY weird. Even my husband said something about it. The vet saidshe's about six months old, but I'm not so sure she'sthat old. Cricket
died five months ago this Thursday.I'm not saying that this is Cricket reincarnated, because it's so hard for me to wrap my mind aroundsomething like that, but I'm not saying it's noteither. This kitty is such a love and will bless our home. Inoticed she has tapeworms yesterday, so I gave her aquarter pill of those pills you can get from the feedstore for dog tapeworms. That's what I usually use,and had some left over from last year. Otherwise, sheseems very healthy, and gets along as if she has bothher eyes instead of one. I have to get her shots andget her spayed in a month, so I will probably have hertested for FeLV at that time as well. But I'm surethere are many of you out there who understand me whenI say part of me just wants to forgo that FeLV test, and not know if she is, you know? I cut one of the bedroom in half – I hired someone and created a divider in the room with plexi glass and screen so that they can see the other side of the room and they can also get air in the room – so now, the new space is connected to the room (bathroom they were originally in) so they have twice as much as the space they were in before. I also put a big cat condo/tower so that they can climb up and downs and see the view from
a new window (they also have one window and cat condo in the original space, too) --- Tsubomi is more outgoing.. so she has been climbing up and downs since yesterday, and she also can see other kitties and me all the time, through the screen and plexi glass as the room is facing to the hallway and the room where a lot of other kitties hang out… On the other hand, ginger is freaked out because of the noise from building stuff yesterday and the fact that now there is new space.. she has been hiding since yesterday. I am praying that she will come out and start playing in a new room with Tsubomi –This is sort of stuff that just satisfies me – but I wanted to share because this is something that I wanted to do for such a long time ever since I got ginger a year and half ago and now my dream sort of came true… Love to all your kitties.Hideyo

No, you were right, probably-- the kidneys send out a hormone that
stimulate the bone marrow to produce red blood cells, so it may be that Winstrol
works on the kidneys, which in turn stimulate the bone marrow. I had just never
heard of it helping with anemia at all. That's one of the reasons I stay on this
list, to learn things like that.

Thanks,

Hi Cindy and all,
No, as far as I can tell, they still don't know what the heck happened
to Pepper. Thank Goodness she seems to be getting over whatever it
was. Since they weren't able to find anything, even with extensive
testing, I'm beginning to wonder if our first guess might have been
right after all; that she got into something that she shouldn't have.
I'll talk to AJ about going through his house and yard again with new
eyes. Here's the latest from AJ:

Pepper's doing well. She's eating canned
food and looking better. I saw her again yesterday afternoon (they
lost her bunny dolly that I brought for her, as well as my jacket).
Stuff like that really annoys me, but I'm easily annoyed. Dr. Shin
called a little while ago and said she could go home, but she pulled
her feeding tube out and they don't want to hassle putting it back in
if she's eating... it's just harder to give her meds now. I said keep
her another day to be sure she's out of the woods...

Re: OT: Prayer for Philmore

2006-03-31 Thread Marylyn

On Feb 1, 2005 the specialists thought Kitty would
not be around in a very few months. She is in the bedroom now. She
is not in as good a shape as I would like but she is about 14 years old.
She will leave this world when she is ready. Not when I think it is time
and certainly not according to some formula a specialist believes in. She
is in no pain. I would definitely know that since she shares her aches and
pains with me. This is to tell you, and remind myself, that life is not
lived on our terms and not to give up on the wonderful friends we have.
Everyday I dread leaving and dread more coming back. You are doing the
same. This is human. They are superior. They are not
worried. They are cats. They know there is nothing to fear in
leaving this world.

I hope I am not being to preachy---my prayers are
with you and Philmore and I ask your prayers for Kitty and me.

I absolutely know what you are talking
about, Marylyn, I feel the same way. When Phoenix first took Philmore to her vet back
in December, he suggested that he should be euthanized right away because he
felt that it was cancer and she scheduled an appointment after Xmas
and she told me about it and I told her.. wait a minute.. he is not
even in pain, he is playing and eating.. dont just kill him because the
vet said so or just because he has cancer.. talk to Philmore.. its his
life and ask him.. dont decide for me without asking him.. so anyway,,
she cancelled appointment and decided to have a life with Philmore for a while
he has had a very happy life.. it was not a long enough for her and it would
never be long enough I know our animals are so much better about knowing
what a life is about and what a death is about.. and so much to learn from
them..

I'm behind on mail too. That's great news about Tux! I had a cat missing a week. Then he just showed back up on my doorstep. I think he had been in the crawlspace under my house the entire time!!! wonderful suggestions, (another one we got off-list was to spray my sister's urine around the perimeter of the house!). I began combing my sister's yard, and her adjacent neighbor's yards armed with cat kibble to shake. Connie was anxious to distribute fliers and knock on doors so she interrupted me to join her in that. Now of course I wish I had continued, but she was so upset and thought the way to get Tux back was to enlist the help of other humans. I agree, but I think your good thoughts and the help of ACs was even more valuable, (thank you Hideyo for all the contacts). Anyway, as I was driving home, my sister called me to tell me Tux had been found!!! I was so relieved I burst into tears. We had confined her other cat to Connie's bedroom and opened most of the doors and
windows in case Tux found his way home. When she opened her bedroom door, Sam scooted out and Connie dashed around in a panic shutting the house back up, (poor Connie!). When everything was quiet again, she heard a little meow. She looked over at Sam playing quietly and listened intently. Again the little meow. She followed it to the attached garage door, and there was little Tux! Dirty, hungry, and very relieved. He'd been hiding in the garage for 3 days. She said they must have checked the garage 10 times, but the little stinker is an excellent hider. What we got from the ACers made sense too. It was mighty dark in there, (thank you Marylyn), and there was old lumber and concrete that he very well could have been hiding under, (thank you Mary and Marylyn!).
Hooray! It's so nice to have a happy ending. What would I do without all of you! Nina __Do You Yahoo!?Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Hideyo,
I'm sorry to hear about Philmore's passing. I'm glad you were able to
help Phoenix see that she didn't have to blindly follow the advice of
her vet and that they got some more time together. The story about the
babies leaves me so saddened. Phoenix must feel terrible about what
happened.

I had more of a response about the responsibility of humans to our
animal friends, about spay and neuter, about consideration for the
innocents living in our world, but I know I'd be preaching to the
choir... Everyone here feels the same way we do. Everyone here does
their best to make it a better world for our furry friends. Everyone
here knows how special each and every "throw away" is. I'm so sad for
those babies and all those like them that never get the chance to live
and to play.
Hugging my babies just a little bit tighter tonight,
