I agree with you. This is crazy. Cmmon guys... Please just calm it
down. Break them negative messages... Seriously. I'm sick of this
stuff. I might just unsubscribe. I mean there's a lot of negative
stuff on this list; as far as I know, AudioGames.net forums don't have
this negativity... And i've been on there for awhile, so really...
Lets calm it down. I personally like the new changes Thom's gonna
(hopefully) make to the game.

wouldn't by a side scroller simply because its not my thing. But ile say
this, most listers from what I remember were pdq to hunt james north out of
town, and if thomas goes, then basicly i'd say we only have 3 good game devs
left, and they are Liam simply because of judgment day, john louk sorry i'm
not sure how to spell your name the guy who writes rts, and che martin.
After that i'd say most of the other games out there at the moment are
fairly medioca simply because they just aren't worth playing or are too
similar, for example we have to many shootem ups where you have to shoot the
 ships.
And most of the devs we at least no about, haven't put out anything for
years, i mean for example what's draconis entertainment doing?
as far as i can see they just seem to be selling james norths old titles.
On the other hand though, if devs aren't making there plans known, then i
wonder why. if this is the reception they are likely to get. I think michael
was it? was right when he said he wasn't sure about how this community could
survive. And you no what he was write. However its because of most of you
greedy listers who drove out james, and are now driving out thomas. who's
next i wonder? and what happens when there are no good devs left. well done
guys you've got rid of 2, only a few more to go, and then that's it no nice
shiny new games, well at least not of the excelent quality we have had
recently from the above listed devs.
 these are my thoughts.
 Alex.

Let's put this in perspective. Most of the time I program for fun. I do

It is a well known fact i write these games in my free or spare time.
What you are commiting me to is not working on a job, but using all of

 Not my own.
Now, in return for this game I want you and the rest of the community to
use every minute of your family or free time doing home work, house
work, tending to other things. You aren't alloud to watch as much TV,
read as many books, because you have to do a project for everyone else
that gives you absolutely no satisfaction or enjoyment. See how long you

we pay for? After you took the project over, what did we ask for when you
asked us which way to go? What are we now going to get after all this? I

I'm sure i will like what you have planned, but I think it should be sold

Subject: [Audyssey] Fw: I desperately need the entire list's
forgiveness

Hello all!
Today i have send the wrong mail from nicol to the list.
Also, i try it again and i hope, it will be the right.

Hello guys
I have extremely big remorse. I am so sorry I went on like a
mad person.
I'm so sorry, that's not how ya all know me.
I'm so desperately afraid that my mad posts caused my reputation
to drop
as
a member of the gaming community. I'm so afraid nobody will
ever like me
after my mad posts. But I can at least try to ask for
forgiveness.
Yes raul, you were correct. I definitely don't have the
president's
number,
I was totally mad.
I have a huge weak point which I really have to work on, if
something at
my
workplace stresses me I must not take it out on innoscent
groups such as
this list and that's what I did. Yes, I was in the beginning
disappointed
that damion charges for a turn based game but it was more
stress at my
workplace that took control of me.
Please damion, don't be cross with me. The message I sent the
list from
my
cellphone is because I thought the mods only put the address on
moderated
status from which I flamed you. Mods, as long as I'm not put
on moderated
status forever that's fine. I understand putting me on
moderated status is
a
form of discipline, I see it in that light. I'm just so
terribly afraid
that
the gaming community doesn't like me anymore. I want to be
accepted, I
don't
wanted to be seen as a mad person, being avoided.
Please gaming community, forgive me. I was mad and I admit it.
Where will I ever do such a mad thing like phoning the
president? You all
were right, the president will not listen to a blind person's
gripe about
a
game.
But damion, now I fully understand it, its your game, you decide
what to
charge for it and I respect it.and phil please forgive me for
saying:
nobody
wants to vote for your game because there is a lot of bugs in
it.
The bug that the game restarts the whole time, is pretty
annoying, as I
can't get any further, but I was too harsh.
So am I forgiven? and oh yeah, Thomas is also very disappointed
in me,
Thomas am I forgiven? Mods, am I forgiven?
Look what mistake did andy made long long ago by cracking games
and andy
is
now seen as a valid member of the gaming community, what andy
did long ago
is forgiven and forgotten. So if an x cracker can be forgiven,
I'm sure I
can be forgiven for saying hurtfull things and harassing damion.
I'm 29 yeares old and I'm not a spoiled brat although it looked
like it
through my posts, each game I own I paid for, by using my money
for which
I
work very hard for.

Here is the results of the Mysteries Of The Aztecs poll we ran

side-scroller or be converted to a first person style game. Out of 52
total votes cast 34 of you said it should remain a side-scroller and 18

of the vote leaving 35% of the voters picking FPS.

Hi Liam,
Dude, that sample game sounds awesome. I love the sound effects. Don't
know what it is about but the game action reminds me of a few games I
played ages ago. The pipe attack reminds me of the bats and pipes you

Um. Ok, then. Should I put azteks setup on sendspace?

Lol call me weird but I back up everything. Now only if I backed up the php on
the site then you wouldn't have to restore anything. Don't think that'd be
possible but.

Anyway if its ok i'll put it all back up, the azteks setup I mean, through
sentspace.

Yeah. Just listen to that music it's unbelievable! You really have to think
things over Nicol before
you post. Try getting a vb editor, some vb libraries, and the actual software;
make
software, spend hours debugging, testing, etc.

Then spend hundreds of dollars on sounds and music. Plus the registration
library set
Damien around 30 bucks.

So just try that. Are your brains coming out your ears yet?

If you do not like it, do not buy it. Simple as that.

Exactly. Have fun trying and trying to get the syntax correct. It's not just
slapping a
bunch of commands together, books I read define this as programming:
A list of commands to get a computer to do something

This is not correct. Things have to be placed in a specific order so it all
makes sense.
And an error we get all the time in vb 6: end without if or whatever. Things
have to be typed
exactly, if you forget, for example to put
end if
at the end of a check then... This is off topic, all I mean is, that it's
difficult, it's
Mr. Sadler's first game, so, cut him some slack guys!

OK. Let's get one thing straight here. Forget about the prices for a
sec,
forget even Acefire. Let's talk X-Sight in general.
Right. What about Acefire preorders? Everybody messes up! I was being
bombarded with comments, advice and suggestions. Confusions is one of
the
worst things to have to deal with as a beginner developer. As for
LightTech's free games, that's their decision to make it free, just like
it's my decision to charge for Acefire.
If you saw just how much testing this thing has been through, how much
money
I've spent on it, how stressed out I got, not only from this but from
all
other activity in my life, people nagging and pressurising me not just
for
new features, this and that, but for personal issues as well, if I
wasn't
on
such a limited budget, if this didn't have to come out of my own money,
for
your information, I could be thrown out of college because of my outside
activities. Not that it probably matters to you all who buy and play or
use,
but to a developer, it's a lot of hard work. That code is 667kb in size,
21512 lines, and in my honest opinion I feel that your message was
rather
rude on the subject of mistakes, messups and high prices.
I'm sorry Cory, but I think you need to sit down and try and develop a
game
or piece of software and tell me then what it feels like as a
first-timer.
All I can say is, for what Acefire is right now, and for what Dectalk
Scripter and Talking Timepiece will be in the future, I've bent over
backwards to add features that people are constantly requesting, and I
said
that there's more to come in 2.0. I've got about forty different
projects
I'm attempting to work on at once. When I'm working on Acefire, I've got
somebody contacting me about Danger City. When I work on Chopper
Challenge,
I get someone contact me about Acefire. When I finally get to work on
Danger
City, someone else will come along and ask about Dectalk Scripter.
No program is ever fully completed as we all know. Programs and games
are
constantly getting updated, and I've developed for free for so long now,
buying custom made libraries, off-the-shelf libraries, sounds, music,
and
am
sick of getting nothing back for it. That's how devs get broke. I can't
even
live, because I'm constantly working for X-Sight. I'm constantly roaming

the
country staying at friend's house and eating their food.
I won't mention any names, but there's three people in particular who
encouraged me to sell this game, one of them himself being a developer.
Now
I get a price/game release rebellion. I was told and advised to knock
the
price down. I knocked the price down, making the pay very low for me.
If you'd rather I finished it there, developed for myself instead, I
could
easily flush the whole lot down the toilet, take down the whole site,
and
easily spend as much money as I've spent on X-Sight over the past two
years
on a decent Yamaha Tyros II keyboard while still being able to buy my
own
food and arrange to move over to the states to live and spend time with
my
girlfriend.
I'm sorry if this message appears harsh, but I feel you ought to know
the
long and short of it.
Thanks.
Regards,
Damien

[Audyssey] /montefun stuff with tomb hunter

2008-02-16 Thread Andy Smith
Hi tom I hope this is ok, since the sounds were not encrypted I opened them in
gold wave
and played with the pitch settings. And lol I found something funny. The lava,
when sped up,
sort of sounds like a running sink. Kinda funny. The fire slowed down sounds a
little bit like
clapping. Lol experimenting with these sounds is cool.

I also discovered that each key made a different pitch. I always knew that but
I know why now.
It's for the colors. There's blue key red key and white key I think. I didn't
steal the
sounds, just opened them up in goldwave and sped them up, then restored them to
the original
settings. It's kinda cool actually how creative people can do.

As I said the lava sounds like a running sink with an echo when sped up. Kinda
cool.

Hi,
I decided it's time to flame me! Just Kidding, I would like some honest
reviews of sdm, with anything you have to say constructive, of what you
feel
should be changed. Also, I see an SDM Contest Edition in my magic
crystal
ball, and I see a winner on the homepage, who won fairly! That's whats
coming in the future, an sdm contest edition, with the current goal, if
applicable and anti-cheating protection. Users suspected of cheating
will
not be allowed to participate in that contest, and may play next times.
We
hope this will be a monthly event. The new enemies are looking good, not
the
same for the side scroller (noo!), but I will continue to yell and fix
SDM's
side scroller. Once the side scroller is added, that's all I have
planned,
so please give out your ideas, even something that is difficult... We've
also added a score posting policy (boo!). Sorry, but some users feel
they
need to use foul language, post false email addresses and names, and
cause
trouble with the boards. I also added some things to the dev center...
Thanks.

Hi Bryan,
I for one have to agree. If you have a sword you should be able to have
unlimited or nearly unlimited use with it. Over time it might get dull,
but it wouldn't be like lost after the first swing.
However, I do here others suggestions that unlimited weapon usage could
make the game slightly too easy. Most games have a set of checks and
balances with combat. If you have bows and arrows your attacks are
limited to the number of arrows in your inventory. If you have a gun
like a magnum, shotgun, Uzi, machine gun, whatever your combat attacks
are limited to the ammo on hand. So we need to find some sort of equal
balance like that here.
Hmmm... Although, some games do have a few weapons that are unlimited.
In Tomb Raider Lara's Pistil, I think it is a 38, has unlimited ammo.
However, while you can shoot an endless amount of bullets the pistil is
a very week weapon. The Shotgun is a powerful weapon, but you only
pickup 10 or 12 shells at a time. So while powerful your ammo resupplies
are limited to keep you from being too powerful.

balance like that here.

[Audyssey] GMA Tank Commander, really stuck on sector 1

2008-02-14 Thread Andy Smith
Hi. I really like Tank Commander, but how do you know where the enemies are in
there, and where to turn
to start blowing them up? I mean I constantly hear, We're getting hit pretty
hard,
sir!, and then there's firing and then I get blasted.

Lol, once a tank kept hurting itself. Don't know why, but I wasn't shooting and
the crew
was like, good shooting! Lol I don't know where the things are in the first
place!

Aztec Warriors Carrying Maquahuitl Swords into Battle
Perhaps the best known ancient Aztec weapon is the
maquahuitl (macahuitl). This is sometimes compared to
the sword, and it was a powerful, close contact weapon.
Like the European sword, they came in two varieties -
one handed and two handed. Made from wood (usually
oak), they were about 3-4 wide and 3-4' long. The two
handed versions might be slightly wider and as tall as
a person. Embedded in the edges was obsidian (volcanic
stone) or flint.

The maquahuitls were incredibly strong, and the Spanish
claimed they could chop the head off a horse with one
blow. They were sharp and the Aztecs knew how to use
them. They could not thrust like a sword, and so they
lent themselves to a different type of warfare - more
of the broad-sword style or wide arcing swings, or
downward chops.

2008-02-13 Thread Andy Smith
I ave a question. Ok. A sword can only destroy one enemy, just like it eid in
Monte.
Is this correct? Because you say, go grab a sword and kill them, so does that
mean, that there
is a way to use a sword multiple times?

Lol sorry for the stupid question.

On Wed, 13 Feb 2008 15:14:45 -0500, Thomas Ward wrote:

Hi Robin,
Actually, you aren't really suppose to jump over the skeleton warriors.
You should go find the sword, and once you have it go hunt down some
skeletons and slay them in armed combat.
Unfortunately, do to short notice I wasn't able to fine tune the combat
systems, properly update the skeletons A.I., and document everything.
This is a stop-gap release to bridge Montezuma's Return Beta 10 and
Mysteries Of the Aztecs.

Here is a couple of suggestions.

Make it so that the snakes cannot be killed. or that on each level,
there
is 5 swords that can be picked up. The snakes take one sword to kill.
While the spiders and skeletons take 2 swords to kill.

Another variation is that the sword is only good for so many swings,

5. After 5 swings of the sword, it is lost and you must find a

Hi Dark,
Actually, their Montezuma's Return game was a full fledged 3D FPS
shooter. The character was a guy, and the story was quite a lot
different. Never-the-less I agreed to remove the name from my game,
which they were cool with, and I am going to modify the levels some so
they aren't exactly clones of Montezuma's Revenge.

Dark wrote:
Hi tom.

well, I hope they see reason, especially if their game is
significantly
different.

Even if it isn't though, unless they have a main character with the same
name (highly unlikely), I don't think you should change anything more
than
the name if necessary for the reasons I mentioned.

Besides, as far as I understand game copyrights, it's the source code
and
graphics that are copywrited along with the name, not the concept.

I remember reading on one site that you could quite happily create a
clone
of a game with the same concept, game elements and even similar graphics

and
sound so long as you did it all from scratch not ripping things from the
original.

The fact that this other montizumas return was not an accessible game
and
thus vastly different in nature to begin with makes such arguements even
more pointless.

Hopefully though, this can be got around with as litle fuss as
possible, and at worst another name change.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] the intro to the final fight in tj

2008-02-09 Thread Andy Smith
Hi lol, I like when the leader starts, like, sobbing because you defeated him.
God that's an interesting
twist.

Maybe he was tired of that I am da big bad boss kind of thing, as you say,
because
Philip put that in Dark Destroyer, so maybe he wanted a change.

On Sat, 09 Feb 2008 15:50:13 -0500, Thomas Ward wrote:

Hi Nicol,
Well, I can't answer for Philip, but perhaps the I am the big bad boss

Wars, etc and it is so common you can almost figure out what the boss is

going to say.
Having the leader asleep and unaware of what is going on is a unique
twist. Different anyway.

Hi Ari,
For the record the person I was emailing today didn't say anything about

suing me. At this point all he has done is ask me a lot of questions
about conflicts of interests, how I obtained the copyrights to
Montezuma's Return, how similar my game is to the Utopia title, etc. I
am hoping this is just some confusion on his part.
I did explain that my game is an accessible game, made for blind and low

vision users, and while it is similar to Montezuma's Revenge it is also
different. I am hoping those diferences and the fact it is not a video
game, per say, they will just leave me alone.
Though, after this little run in I am strongly thinking about changing
the name of the game again. While I like the name I have for the game I
would rather it not come up in search engines under Montezuma's Return
which is a trade mark of another company.
As for suing it is a sad fact people are sue happy over here in the USA.

When a woman can order hot coffee, spill it on herself, and then sue
McDonald's for selling her hot coffee and win you know something is
wrong with the legal system. I heard of a case involving a lawyer who
payed for a pack of cigars, insured them for fire damage, smoked them,
and then sued the insurance company for not paying him after his cigars
were smoked and won. My point is that suing over here is often
rediculous, but is a part of life.

I have created a simple shooter with AGM called Monster Mash.
Frankly, it isn't much fun, but it is a good starting place to see how
  the system works.
I am still having trouble figuring out the turn and move stuff, as the
sounds don't seem to pan properly.
I have posted a topic on the AGM forum if you want to check it out.
One thing I don't understand is how to have the ammo item reset itself to
full ammo, as you can only get ammo from it once, if anyone has an idea
  here let me know.
You can get the game and all setup files here:
  http://www.blindAdrenaline.com/uploads/monsterMash.zip
feel free to modify it all you want, this is just a learning project, if
you figure something out, please let me know.

Re: [Audyssey] games from Draconis Entertainment

2007-07-22 Thread Andy Smith
terra, dont know if this makes a difference; bu hey, it's worth a try.
First make sure you delete the setup file. Then go to draconis's site,
and when it prompts you to oppen or save, or whatever those radio
buttons are called, choose open, run, or whatever it's called; it
should be similar to either run, or open. Dont know if it helps; but,
then again it might. You could always click ignore, and see if you get
another error about a different file? If it resumes then that file is
curruptedd, if more errors come up then the setup is curupped. I might
be talking nonsense; but, hey anything's worth a try.

Re: [Audyssey] Looking for avid audio gamers and/or developers in San Francisco Bay Area

2007-07-21 Thread Andy Smith
Hi Mr. Beck,
I think that a good idea is the phone as Thomas Ward said, but another
interesting idea is skype. I personally would prefer that over phones,
and you could use total recorder, www.highcriteria.com for recording
your skype calls if your sound card cant do input and output, in other
words, sound card record what it's playing through the speakers. My
skype name is musicproandy and I can only be on at certain times due
to various reason which I reefuse to explain, this is your best bet.
www.skype.com is the source for skype; www.jfwlite.com has the skype
scripts for jfw, if that's what your after. As a matter of fact you
could even have, for example, an avid audio gamer fire up a game,
assuming their sound card can play and record, it's really really hard
to explain, but it's possible to have the actual nterviewer play the
game as a knd of demo real time, though I wish I could explain what I
mean better. Skype is a far better quality over phone, at least in my
opininon, so thats what I personally suggest. Besides I really have no
idea how you would capture a phone signal into a recording...
Wish you luck,
Andy

Re: [Audyssey] games from Draconis Entertainment

I had no problems at all with those. Aside from using demos, and now,
I am looking into the full version of tenpin alley because it's fun,
and my days of... you know, are over, so I now am gonna actually buy
games now! However I have had no troubles with installations of
draconis games, bsc games, pcs games, gma games, or any other kind of
games on the planet. I wish you good luck in solving the problem, make
sure you have directx 8 I think it is, and make sure that sp2 is on
there; dont know how it helps, just for security I guess, but then
again you never know. I suggest contacting draconis support through
phone if they dont answer your emails.
Hope it helped at least a little...

Re: [Audyssey] Accessible methods for locating special items in games.

2007-07-19 Thread Andy Smith
HI I think, that a sound would be best for an item. You know like in
troopanum and sod, and I think pipe2 as well the toolboxes. So by all
measn, sounds because you can tell what they are, and you know an
annoying voice gets really annoying, like you know the game paused
in ailiens in the outback from draconis, music, game paused. music,
game paused. Annoying!

On 7/19/07, Robin Kipp [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Hi Tom,
Well I'd like an object locator sound that is easy to make out even when
you're in the middle of a battle. I also like it when objects can be
destroyed accidentally, for example by shooting them. Also a great idea
would be if an enemy close to you could also try to pick up the object
and use it against you. Imagine there's a blaster infront of you and you
want to pick it up, but the enemy is faster than you, picks it up and
tries to shoot you with this blaster then. I haven't seen that in any
game yet, but I really like this idea.

Subject: [Audyssey] Accessible methods for locating special
  items in games.

  Hi all,
All of us know there are several ways to make an inanimate object
accessible in a game for a blind gamer, but I am wondering
  which way is
best. For example, in Shades of doom when you wish to find a door,
datacard, security chip, etc you can locate the object by
  listening for
a continuous beep. That's fine for Sci-fi games. However,
  assume for a
moment we are in a castle like in Sarah. In Sarah you will hear words
spoken like sweet spoken over and over until you pick it up. There is
also a third way as in Montezuma's Revenge were you are
  presented with
sounds for gems, gold coins, etc and you listen for the
  specific sounds
  to collect the items.
As many of you know I am working on other titles besides Montezuma's
  Revenge.
In Star Wars for example when a enemy drops a hand blaster how would
you like me to identify where that object is. Would you like to hear
the sound of a voice saying hand blaster, hand blaster, hand blaster,
over and over again, or would you like an object locator
  sound similar
to Shades of Doom to find that object.
Recently Trenton has braught up the idea for an accessible
  Tomb Raider
which happened to be one of my favorite game series when I
  was sighted.
If I do eventually do one of those I'll have to be creative in
identifying objects as most of them are inanimate objects like
hyrogliphs, chains and levers to open secret passages,
  swinging ropes,
weapon ammo, med kits, and so on. Basically, some things such
  as ropes
and chains I can put sounds in which would fit with no
  problem. Some of
the other things are questionable. Say you are seaking a
  golden mask or
golden snake. I can't really represent them with sound, but I
  can use a
object locator with a beep to pick them up, or I can use words to
announce golden snake, golden mask, etc
What are your thoughts on this?

full PK mud, butt, newbies won't be attacked for five hours so that they can
build themselves up. It uses mission points to make you rise levels and get
equipment. You can find better weapons go on staff run missions and stuff
of that nature. The concept is that you take one of three groups the aliens
like are in the movie alien, the yautja race from the movie predator, and
the marines that faught those aliens in alien Ii. The mariens have two
races. human natural soldier, synthetic soldier made from synthetics. They
also have three sub classes you can take. Sniper, rifleman, and specialist.
The aliens are just one race, butt, their sub groups are warrior, sentry,
and drone. The yautja/predator race have hunter, trapper, and vanguard.
The predator hunter and trapper class have these suits that allow you to
become invissible and hunt your apponents. The alien race when you go
warrior has this glan that gives you some interesting abilities. I haven't
played the chars long enough yet to see what its like when you get to the
higher levels. I did my marine char wrong so I haven't really taken a look
at it to much. I really like my predator and alien chars though. the port
 and address are

 avpmud.com 4000

They seem pretty friendly that is when they're not trying to kill you. I
found that its best to use your five hours wisely. My chars still have a
bit of time left, though I imagine that that won't last to much longer.
 Take care all,

This can apply to just about anything you cannot find. It may be to your
left or right. It may be found after you climb up or down. It might even
be in a dark room that you did not know was dark unless a torch
automatically lit when you entered the room. If you don't have a torch, you
won't know the room is dark unless something evil gets you.

Great game, isn't it? And the demo is only 2 levels. There's loads more
 fun in our future!

think ya gotta register to get 'em. I'm not going through all that,

If that doesn't help, just look for your Microsoft Windows XP or whatever
version of the system you have CD, find setup.exe there in the root
directory (hope that hasn't changed since 98, as I don't have the XP disk
myself) and launch the installation. It shouldn't be that difficult and
annoying. Try reinstalling Sapi once again after the system reinstall, and
 it could fix your issues.

I didn't tell you to reformat, I was just describing my own problem and a
solution to it. I was suggesting a common reinstall of the system, if you
have the CD. This should take only about half an hour or maybe an hour at
most with XP and nothing will really be changed, your data will be kept,
only the system components will be repaired where needed.

  Hi Simon,
seems that something is majorly wrong with your installation of Sapi.
  I had a similar problem.
A friend of mine created a little freeware program called Text to mp3,
  which
does exactly that - takes a .txt file and converts it into mp3 using
  Sapi,
excellent for reading ebooks or any longer documents in general when
travelling on your mp3 player, etc.
External applications that try to access Sapi have to do so through the
sapi.spvoice object, and my installation of Sapi got somehow broken one
  day,
I don'T know even now what was the cause of it. My screen reader still
worked, but all other appz, including the text2mp3, couldn't create the
sapi.spvoice object any more, which was causing similar crashes to
  yours
whenever there was an attempt to access Sapi. NOthing I could do fixed
  this
problem, and as I wasn't given any XP installation CD with my computer,
probably by accident, only thing I could do was to reformat my system
partition and install a system recovery I was given, making the system
  look
exactly the same as it was the day I got it. Only this was able to fix
  the
  problem.
So I guess to remove any and all traces of Sapi you might have on your
system, reinstall Windows (if you have the installation CD, a common
reinstall on the top of the current system should do it) and then
  install
  Sapi 5.1 again.
  Hope this might perhaps help,

Re: [Audyssey] for tom.

2007-07-14 Thread Andy Smith
hi neo thatt text2mp3 program, culd it be possible to put it up on
sendspace.com or something? Cuz I've been wanting to convert material
from various places into .mp3 format. From there, I could do various
handy things with it such as making it .wav with various soundd
editors etc.

On 7/14/07, Neo [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Hi Simon,
seems that something is majorly wrong with your installation of Sapi.
 I had a similar problem.
A friend of mine created a little freeware program called Text to mp3, which
does exactly that - takes a .txt file and converts it into mp3 using Sapi,
excellent for reading ebooks or any longer documents in general when
travelling on your mp3 player, etc.
External applications that try to access Sapi have to do so through the
sapi.spvoice object, and my installation of Sapi got somehow broken one day,
I don'T know even now what was the cause of it. My screen reader still
worked, but all other appz, including the text2mp3, couldn't create the
sapi.spvoice object any more, which was causing similar crashes to yours
whenever there was an attempt to access Sapi. NOthing I could do fixed this
problem, and as I wasn't given any XP installation CD with my computer,
probably by accident, only thing I could do was to reformat my system
partition and install a system recovery I was given, making the system look
exactly the same as it was the day I got it. Only this was able to fix the
 problem.
So I guess to remove any and all traces of Sapi you might have on your
system, reinstall Windows (if you have the installation CD, a common
reinstall on the top of the current system should do it) and then install
 Sapi 5.1 again.
 Hope this might perhaps help,
 Lukas

[Audyssey] troop2 help!

2007-07-13 Thread Andy Smith
Hi,
I can beat easy with baby black hole pretty darn good. But I wanted
more challenge so I played normal with the same mission. And...
Well I made it to the bombs, almost hit vector completely with 1 life,
what happened? A bomb hir me... And goodbye goes the ending. So now I
just dont know those liquidater's make me loose zillions of lives on
lev13/14/12, when there are lots of ships and liquidaters I usually
kick out my super laser if I have one, and if I have more than 1
smartbomb I use it on them so they get blown to pieces. But they fall
too fast! How can you shoot them, and the nonliquidater ships, and not
let zillions of ships kiss my lives goodbye? And any sugestions on
landing on the land your ship, and accumulating 5 sets of ships and
shooting them down? I got to 5 sets and the darn liquidater's land,
land, land. And then I can kiss that extra life see ya, cuz I dont get
that! All I needed was one stupid more life and I could've... darn it!

Another cool idea would be to create a cool jd-style thing, I mean
kinda fix it so that there is mouse support in games, ya know. Like in
rocket rage, weapon search, etc. And a nice good version of Mario,
huge giant project I know. How about if many developers work together?
If you have msn I believe you could do remote control, so one person
could have the file, and others can just work on it. Or maybe, I
should just be quiet and not suggst anything? ooo! Liam, can you
do beep? A version of beep, you know. beep beep beep, space. Ououou!

If you're like me (and the rest of the world right now), you have
  discovered
the incredible challenge, fun, and intellectual stimulation of the Sarah
game. Like myself, I am sure you've stumbled on the puzzles you can't
  solve
no matter how hard you try. Or maybe you've been frustrated by the puzzles
  that seem to
  take a lifetime to solve.

These little puzzles can stump even the smartest of people. Quite frankly,
  I
was addicted to solving Sarah but kept getting stuck near the end.

Recently, I have discovered a method (more than one actually) that has
enabled me to solve puzzles in minutes. And when you're addicted to
  solving
  these
  things, it really helps.

I have discovered methods which make me a master and I am revealing them
  all
now in a walk through guide for you. Every possible thing you will need to
know about Sarah has been detailed. I have revealed methods for the
  beginner
and the expert. No Sarah enthusiast should continue without knowing these
  tricks!!!

  Here's just a small taste of what I will teach you;

. Learn what to do when you get stuck
. Learn Where to start each puzzle
  . Complete step-by-step methods
. Find out what to do when your solution does not match
. How to increase solving speed
. Understand the logic behind Sarah
. How to complete the last few chapters (no more guessing!!)
. How to solve the 7 potion puzzle (know where to start)
. Solve the game in Easy, Medium, even in the hard dificulty level.

A Beginner Sarah Player Can Quickly Become An Expert And Solve All
Puzzles...Even If You've Never Tried Before!!

If you're one of those people who are lost, wondering where this game came
from then its time for you to learn! Not only can I teach you how to
play, but also how to master Sarah and how to show up all your friends!!
  If
you're new the the world of Sarah and unsure how to start the game, don't
worry! I have laid out for you step-by-step the best way to begin solving.
Every last detail has been included to take YOU from a beginner to a
  master!

Stop Painting Yourself Into A Corner And Get To The Solution Faster...Even
  On The most difficult Puzzles!!

Even the best of the best get stuck from time to time, and I know how
frustrating it can be. I've had many people ask me about puzzles in the
  past
where they have agonized and gone in circles BUT now I have shown them the
tricks to get to the solution faster. You can easily become an Ultimate
Master of Sarah (just like me).
I have all the tips you need to increase your solving speed to complete
  any
  puzzle within minutes!!
It cost only $19.95 US until publication date, when the price decreases to
  $0.
It will be included in the Sarah-Patch4.exe and will be published some
  time
  in August 2007.

this amazing document will astound you in its ease of solving the puzzles
and in the quickness you can finish the game.

  smiles,
  Phil

Re: [Audyssey] Problum when Starting Monty

2007-07-09 Thread Andy Smith
umm im having trouble too it says to download .net framework, which I
did, and still had the problem. Should I runinstall .net and monte,
reinstall .net, then install directx, then install monte?

On 7/7/07, Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Hi mich,
Did you have .Net 2.0 already installed? If so what it sounds like to me
is you had it installed, and tried to run a new install over top of it

Monty, and the .Net Framework, and reinstall them clean.
Other thing is after you reinstall .Net then try and reinstall DirectX
June 2007, and finally reinstall Monty.

2007-07-09 Thread Andy Smith
well depends on your soundcard, I was actually able to play through
superliam with a guy on skype, with my mic turned on and everything,
and when I turned my mic off it still ran through skype. On mine it's
called stereo mix, set the volume to 100 and uncheck mute. However not
all soundcards support this. If you wanted to do a recording and you
need to do what I described try total reecorder, I think it's
highcriteria.com, it puyts a little bleep every 60seconds of req time,
full version unlocks this annoying feature.

largely fallen out of use amung game developers. Most developers simply
play and mix wav files using DirectX, SDL, Open AL, etc...

[Audyssey] more ways to make sounds: was (sounds)

2007-07-07 Thread Andy Smith
hi,
Another thing to do is to use dectalk scripter to make something in
dectalk then edit, modify, stretch, shape, mix, and otherwise do
anything you need with dectalk scripter. Assuming it's a safe program,
that is...

Oh yeah, just to tell everyone that an interesting way to create a
kind of sound is probably with expression evaluator, assuming your
just playing around. Also can anyone help me get a better
understanding of that evaluator in goldwave, like what kinds of stuff
can you do with it, and how can you do that stuff, because obviously
syn(xxx*t) isnt the only thing you can do with it; thats the only
example in the manuals and I really dont get how to use it, though
probably one could make some cool stuff with it. Ill crack out the
manual and read it, and see if I can figure it out. All help is
welcome!

Re: [Audyssey] question about sounds

2007-07-06 Thread Andy Smith
Hi list,
H. If anyone's got Audition, and goldwave, and soundforge
(installing right now...), modifying the frequencies in Audition for
the generate|ddtmf signals, and setting that group of radio buttons to
custom. Then type in random numbers in the boxes with numbers, and in
the dial string box type wh numbers you want. For example, number1
can be 100, 2 can be 200 etc. Now lets say 0 is 1000, andd you wanted
to put 1234567890 to create a sound just in the dial string box type:
1234567890. You can mix it up too like: 03215499876123109499867 or
something. Then save it, and use goldwave and soundoforg3e and
audition to and perhaps audissaty to do dirty work for you. I need
some help guys, where can I get good DirectX plug ins? I am mainly
looking for some good ones for free but of course nothing's really
good for free, so I'll take suggestions for pretty much anything.

On 7/6/07, Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Hi Andy,
What amazes me is back in the Atari, NES, and classic days of gaming all
sound effects were made by creating formulas to change wav lengths etc.
I mean they did music, sounds, and all that by code alone.
Now days, if you want a sound record it on a tape recorder, computer, or
other device, edit it with Goldwav, Soundforcge, and away you go.
You want a fire record it in your home fire place, and then you can use
it fora burning truck, tank, fire place, whatever. It's as easy as that.
In the absents of real fire you can crackle wrapping paper etc and then
modify it to sound something like fire, but it isn't quite the same
effect. Either way I'd do it that way than make formulas to try and
give a fire effect in my game.

 Andy Smith wrote:
well I knew that not everything's easy, I was just pointingg out that
that I never really thought about creating stuff that way, what I did
to start with just to play around with is to go into goldwave, create
a new file, go to tools|expression evaluator. Type in syn(3200*t) in
that format, you'll get a tone. However you can do ootles of stuff
with it, I managed to create very interesting and creepy results, with
pitch control, and I turned it into some wacky drum beat, which I
deleted, darn! It needed a lot of work though, so I fired up Audition
and generated white noise. Then I mixed both the sounds together with
goldwave's mix command, and used a dopler from audition. Came out
freaky. I deleted it though to save myself from doing very nasty stuff
with that file. My point is that nothing's easy, just like you said
tom. Now I gonna play with audition right now. Just to play around
  with.
