Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws takes a nap after fifteen seconds

2017-08-13 Thread Mike B.
Hi Adrian & Ted,

For whatever reason I didn't catch the original post, but this almost sounds
like a Jaws sleep setting. I say that because Jaws works just fine in
Openbook, but no other programs. I have no idea how sleep settings would be
configured in Widows 10, so a call to FS / VFO as Adrian suggested would get
you your best answer.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Ted, I see no one responded, which means everyone is as clueless as I on
this one. Probably the best thing is to call FS/VFO tech support in the
morning. This shouldn't happen, as if you need to be told. A JAWS repair
might solve it, but it sounds like something more is going on. If you need
repair instructions, please post again.

Dear List:

I recently migrated from Window-eyes to the latest version of Jaws. I have
a windows ten computer. No matter what application I am in, with the
exception of Open Book, Jaws will start to nod off after fifteen seconds
from when I last pressed a key. Thus, if I wait for fifteen seconds before
pressing a key, Jaws takes a half second to respond. If I type the letter
w, for example, I will only hear the final syllable. I tried using the
Eloquence, Realspeak, and the sapi voices and different persons within them
to see if the problem would go away. So, what next should I try? Thanks
for any ideas. Regards: Ted Larson

I need to manage a G-mail account that is not my primary personal account.
Does anyone have any tips on how to navigate and use the web version of
G-mail? I need to either have a draft message that I can use to send out to
new contacts, or be able to forward the original message and edit out the FWD

will be sending out over 150 of these messages as I receive contact info.
If
I have multiple to send out at once, I plan to put all of the addresses in the

access this other account with Outlook and not have the messages get mixed
together?

Thanks,

Hello All,

I need to manage a G-mail account that is not my primary personal account.
Does anyone have any tips on how to navigate and use the web version of
G-mail? I need to either have a draft message that I can use to send out to
new contacts, or be able to forward the original message and edit out the
FWD
from the subject line and the old header info in the body of the message. I
will be sending out over 150 of these messages as I receive contact info.
If
I have multiple to send out at once, I plan to put all of the addresses in
the
BCC line. I do use Outlook 2010 for my personal e-mail, so is there a way
to
access this other account with Outlook and not have the messages get mixed
together?

Thanks,

I have multiple to send out at once, I plan to put all of the addresses in
the
BCC line. I do use Outlook 2010 for my personal e-mail, so is there a way
to
access this other account with Outlook and not have the messages get mixed
together?

Thanks,

Annette

Hi Dennis,
I would just use Windows Defender in Windows 10. It cost nothing and does a
real good job. It is fully accessible.

using the jaws cursor. you can set schedule scans, I have the lifetime

Add the gmail account to Outlook as an IMAP account. This will keep it

If you do setup the second account do not check the box to save the messages

Hey group,

Yesterday my outlook 2010 was acting a little weird so I closed it down and
restarted my PC. Now it seems as though Outlook has reset the calendar to a
kind of factory default. All my appointments are missing, and the calendar
is presented in a grid view with holidays starting in 2009. But, I don't
think my appointments are completely gone because my reminder window is
still being populated with appointment times that have come and gone. Prior
to this calendar malfunction, there was a window that gave me the choice of
either snooze, restart and something else. I thought it was for the creator
update, but it wasn't. Perhaps I have installed an update that messed up my
calendar? I thought about a system restore, but wasn't sure it would help.
Maybe I should go ahead and do it anyway?
I'm running Jaws 18 and I would sure appreciate some helpful information on
this one.

Thanks,
Norma

2017-08-13 Thread Adrian Spratt
Miriam,

With nothing changed on your system, I expect the problem lies with the
website. I went there out of curiosity, and I notice an announcement of a
change in design. I can't find a date for when it occurred, but the explanation
is here:

You may want to alert them that they may have rendered their digest emails

I wonder if anyone can hazard a guess as to how I can solve this problem. I
have Windows 7, Jaws 18, I E 11, and Outlook 2016. There's an email digest that
I have been receiving in plain text from a website called Truthdig.
Until yesterday, when this email arrives, I easily go through it. It has titles
of articles, brief summaries, and links to each article. If I want to read the
article, I just go to the link. But yesterday and today, the email appears to
be blank. If I tab after getting into the email, I get to an email button. If I
press enter, I just get to something which would have me add the address to my
contacts. But I can't get to any text. Does anyone have any idea as to why?

[JAWS-Users] jaws takes a nap after fifteen seconds

2017-08-13 Thread Ted Larson

Re: [JAWS-Users] Changing to Windows 10

2017-08-13 Thread JM Casey
Hey.
Jimm's guides are very helpful. I find Windows 10 to be a little like a
smart, lovely but sometimes uncooperative spouse ... if you'll excuse the
analogy. Behaviour does not always seem consistent, but there are a lot of
neat things about it if you want to dig aroud. Since I got this machine in
May, Microsoft has ordered many updates for my Windows 10, and I'm finally
on the Creators' build. Most of these go off without a hitch, but a few
things have been broken or changed from ttime to time during the update
processes. Hopefully this won't be a pain for you, butt keep your internet
connection handy in case you need to look up solutions. Most recently they
changed the way the Windows mobile 2003 service works, so that I could no
longer connect my old Braille Note to the pC without making some changes in
the computer management console. Depending on what sort of perippherals,
drives, software you use, this kind of thing is apparently common. Usually
there's a fix, so don't despair.

Hi all. I've just purchased a new laptop which will be running Windows 10.
It's a Leda brand (not sure of the selling, but they're a South Australian
company).

I will be running the latest JAWS on it and am wondering if there are any
introductory tips you guys can give me, since I've currently running Windows
7 on my old laptop. I have been saving Jim's tutorials, but have not really
looked at them yet. I really simply need just simple introductory tips -
like dotted points, so I know where to start, since I have not been able to
access training here yet. The waiting list seems quite long.

Thanks.

Kind regards

Michele

PS the man who sold me the laptop will be installing Office 365 on it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Word 2010, sort and JAWS

2017-08-13 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Adrian,

I don't remember if Word 10 has the option to select all text with similar
formatting but if so there is another approach you can take. This is
assuming (which I know shouldn't be done) that the section headings have a
different formatting applied than other text in the document. In Word 2013
here is what I would do:

Select one of the section heading's text.
Use the selection button located under the home tab and at the right end of
the lower part of the ribbon.
In the submenu choose "text with similar formatting (no data)."
Use the hotkey to change all selected text to a particular heading such as
CTRL with Alt 1, CTRL with Alt and 2, etc.

If Word 10 has the selection button and the section headings are formatted
differently than other text in the document then this is likely the quickest
way to apply the style you want to the original section headings. You could
then sort by the applied Word headings to hopefully get the result you want.

Take care.

Brian,

Well, I didn't wait. Creating a heading looks almost too easy. Keeping in
mind your point that for my dictionary-like organization to work, I should
use only one heading level, I'm going with the obvious, control-alt-number
row 1. I thought I'd need to select existing lines of text, but it seems I
just have to position the cursor at the beginning of the line (or anywhere
on the line?) for it to take effect.

I could also initiate a heading by typing that key combo and proceeding with
the heading text, but most are already in place.

It will be a fair amount of clerical work, but now I can see my way forward.

One thought. each of my would-be headings is preceded by a double return.
Can you think of a search and replace operation that might accomplish what I
want? Presumably, it would consist of ^6^6 in both fields, with an
additional character in the replace field. Please don't waste your time if
you don't have a quick answer.

If you have anything else to add or correct, please let me know.

Again, thank you.

I had a feeling you'd come up with something. Thank you so much. But now I
have to admit I've never created what you call built-in headings in Word.
Would it be a lot of trouble to explain? In the meantime, I'll turn to

Hello Adrian,

If the subject heading for each entry is a built-in Word heading and all
headings are of the same level then you can sort by heading in either
ascending or descending order. Go under the home tab and use the Sort
button in the paragraph group to bring up the dialog box. Use down arrow in
the "Sort by" edit combo box and choose heading. Tab a couple times to the
radio buttons and choose between ascending and descending. Use OK. Of
course, this approach only works if your subject headings are built-in Word
headings and are all using the same heading level.

Take care.

I want to do a sort in a file with word 2010 that I used to do in
WordPerfect, but I don't think it's possible. Can someone prove me wrong?
Here are my criteria.

I have a document that consists of hundreds of entries, each one with a
subject heading. I want to arrange them alphabetically. Each entry consists
of several paragraphs. I've separated the paragraphs within each entry by a
single line break, while the breaks between entries are double.

WordPerfect recognized this distinction, so that it didn't treat the
individual paragraphs as new entries to be alphabetized. It alphabetized
only those entries separated by a double space.

Any ideas?

Hi Tom, these instructions should work the same way for W-7.
How to set up and use the OneDrive back up for yourself and how to share a

*for windows 10, Open your personal folder link under the start area if you
have it set up that way, go down to OneDrive, press enter.
*do this in Windows 7: Or, type OneDrive into the search edit box, press
enter on OneDrive desktop app.
Or, if OneDrive is on your Taskbar, press enter on it there, or press its
shortcut keystroke windows key+the number of its order on the Taskbar.
*do this in windows 10, Or, press the windows key, up or down arrow to, All
apps, press enter.
Press the letter O, down arrow to one drive, press the enter key, press
enter on OneDrive.
Now you will be in a list of default OneDrive folders, that you can use, or
you can create your own folders in OneDrive.
In this example, I will create my own folder under the main default folder
list of OneDrive.
While you are in the list of default folders under the main OneDrive folder
list.
1. Press Control+shift+N, for new folder.
2. In this example, I will type the name, "Jaws users", then press enter to
create this new folder.
3. Copy the files or folders you wish to back-up, and paste them into this
new Jaws Users folder.
Do the same thing if you wish to share this folder with others by a OneDrive

6. Now, you can choose a check-box to sink all folders.
Or, uncheck this, tab to the list view of folders, only check the folders
you wish to sink to your computer by pressing the Spacebar on each folder.
After checking all the folders you wish to sink, tab to OK, press enter.
Now, How to share this new OneDrive folder and its contents, with others

8. Press the Applications key, go down to, Share a OneDrive link, press
enter.
By pressing Enter, This automatically pastes, a OneDrive link to this
folder, that you can share with others, into the clipboard.
9. Now, open an email to the person you wish to give access to this OneDrive
folder and all its content, in my case the Jaws users list.
10. Paste the OneDrive link into the email, this will give that person a
link to access the folder you are sharing with them.
What does it mean to sink your OneDrive folders?
When you choose to sink your OneDrive folders on your computer.
You have a mirror copy of these files online, on your OneDrive page.
You also place a mirror copy of these files in your OneDrive folder on your
computer.
Now, the advantage of doing it this way is:
When you are inside the OneDrive folder and inside a text file in one of
your shared folders, for example.
Whatever changes you make to that text document on your computer, are
automatically changed in the text document stored in OneDrive on line.
Can I use the default folders of OneDrive, to place my audio or text files
into for back up, or for sharing with others?
Yes, you can use them the same way, as I explained above.
OneDrive is a cool and easy way, to share large audio or text files with
others.
Microsoft gives each person a free 5 GB's of storage space on OneDrive.
*Tip, when you sink folders, you are taking up room in your OneDrive folder,
what ever the size of the one drive folder on line is also taking up room on
your C: drive as a mirror copy.
I am currently sharing two OneDrive links to two different folders on my
OneDrive on my computer, with no issues.

Good morning, Miriam, Brian Zolo here in Gahanna, Ohio. I'm using windows
ten at work and am still on windows 7 here at home. You can add items to
your desktop in windows ten though it's not quite as straight forward as in
windows 7. I had a good friend of mine add items to my desktop since it was
easier for me to work that way. She can type the program into the search
box and it will take her right there. Another suggestion is to have her
technical person at the convent go to www.classicshell.net and download
classic shell for her which will give her the same style that she's used to
in windows 7 and can be configured the way she wants. There are tradeoffs
in windows ten; you loose functionality with your jaws cursor which is due
to structural differences in windows ten though you certainly can use the

My friend is an 86 year old Benedictine Sister. She uses her computer to do
work for the Xavier Society and to volunteer for Bookshare, along with all
of the tasks that are part of her life at the convent. She was using a
Windows 7 computer and system access for about 5 years, but the computer
crashed. She now has Jaws 18 and Windows 10. It was set up for her by the
convent's tech person with some consultation with Freedom Scientific. While
we're waiting to see if the person I know, has time to work with her
remotely on the phone, I have a question to ask for her. I seem to remember
being told that there's a way to set up Windows 10 so that it looks like
what we're accustomed to seeing on Windows 7. Is that called the classic
view? Is that what she should tell the tech person to set up for her? Right
now, she can't get to the internet or to Documents. She would like to be
able to get to the desktop with icons, like she could before, and to
Documents.

There are tradeoffs
in windows ten; you loose functionality with your jaws cursor which is due
to structural differences in windows ten though you certainly can use the
touch cursor quite effectively. I'm having issues with Microsoft outlook
2013 which I've advised vfo group about and have been told that Microsoft is

[JAWS-Users] One Drive Tutorials?

2017-08-13 Thread Tom Behler
Hello, all.

Are there any Jaws-friendly step-by-step tutorials for setting up and using
one drive?

Once again, I have a one-drive tutorial for Windows 10, but am using
windows 7 here.

This might make the entire process of setting things up easier.

Hi Tom,
Windows 7 doesn't include a OneDrive app, so you'll have to download and
install it. It had been included into the Windows Live Essentials suite, but
probably now may be available separately.
When installed, the first thing you'll be asked is to sign in, and you will be
using the JAWS Virtual Cursor. The next screens are normally accessible.
To quickly access OneDrive folder latter, double-click on the OneDrive system
tray icon; that icon will also you the synchronization status, that is, files
in your local copy of the folder structure compared to the folder structure
uploaded of the service. To access more settings than in the initial wizard,
open the context menu and choose Settings.
Although Office 2013 and 2016 include direct support for OneDrive even without
the app, for example for co-authoring, you can save files to the OneDrive
folder structure from any application. The files will save locally in the
normal way and the app will upload these files to the cloud in the background.

Feel free to ask more if needed!

Hello, everyone.

I am sorry for the additional post, but I need to clarify something about my
previous one drive quiry.

I have some tutorial files for Windows 10, but I'm currently still using
Windows 7 on my main laptop computer.

So, if I could get some instructions tailered to Windows 7, that would be most
helpful.
