Hi.

The vocalizer expressive voices downloadable from VFO. To see them, go
to your JAWS help menu, then web resources sub menu and then, get more
voices. The resulting web page that appears has a combo box that you
need to pick the version of vocalizer you use, you want expressive to be
selected in there. AFter that, you can arrow down the page and check out
the voices you you have available. Most of the time, you can listen to a
sample and, if you like it, download and install the voice.

Eric was talking about the Microsoft One Core voices. These are voices
included with Win10. They'll already be available to you. These are the
same voices Narrator uses.

Press insert+ctrl+s to launch JAWS's speech synthesizer dialogue. When
it opens, down arrow to Microsoft Mobile. This is the synth driver for
One Core. If you have installed at least one Vocalizer Expressive voice,
keep down arrowing till you reach Vocalizer Expressive.

Once you have the synthesizer selected, visit the options menu, voices,
voice adjustment, to pick from any available voices for that synthesizer
and customize to your liking.

I mean, it literally says on the website:
• If you wish to carry on using Codex to convert all your Kindle purchases,
you will need to avoid updating to any release of Kindle for PC with a
version
number higher than 1.17. If you have not already updated to Kindle for PC
1.19, you can open the Options dialog from the Tools menu and uncheck the
box
which reads: “Automatically install updates when they are available without
asking me”.
http://jscholes.net/using-codex-with-kindle-for-pc-1-19/
I'm using the older Kindle for PC version and have had no problems
converting and reading in QRead for example.
The old Kindle for PC application is still kind of crappy as far as
accessibility, but you only need it to download the title. After that, you
don’t' really have to interact with it.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] arranging messages by date only in Outlook 2010

Hello folks.

I've looked for answers to this online already, and nothing quite seems to
resemble my own personal experience, so maybe someone here can offer a quick
suggestion.

Right now, Outlook will display messages mostly in a chronological list,
with the most recent on the bottom. This is good. However, it groups things
together, by subject, and I discovered I can miss messages this way if I'm
not careful. I'd like sorting to be done only by chronology, so that all my
internet invoices for instance aren't grouped together in the list; replies
to a thread only appear in the list according to the date on which they show
up and not because they belong in a thread together. I hope this makes
sense. I have read about the "conversations" view that started in this
version of Outlook (I believe), yet the "conversations" button in the view
tab of the ribbon . actually seems to be greyed out. So, maybe it's
something much simpler I'm looking for, like "sort by subject". I have to
admit that outlook's flagging, sorting and grouping features leave me
scratching my head a little, in part because of the way JAWS seems to handle
them. I'm probably just missing something straightforward. Anyway, I'm
running outlook 2010, as said, and JAWS 18, with a pop3 style incoming
server account. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Not necessarily Twitter, but a way to keep a link from wrapping into two or
more lines when sending it.

If you notice, a lot of newspapers use shortened URL's as well.
If I recall, if you highlight the link and look on the bottom (status line)
in your virtual window, it should translate the link to the normal site.

I try to always look at shortened links before I click on them to make sure
I'm not being taken to some site that might have malware or something.

Yesterday, when I turned the computer on after about 5 or 10 seconds Jaws said

I've had this computer for almost four months and this has never happened.
Has anybody experienced anything like this and is this something to be
concerned about? Thanks for any input.

Thanks.

Hi, I hear this sometimes when starting my machine and I just guessed it was
something to do with the sign in page of windows. Do you have to put in a
password? I do and it is on this window I sometimes get this message.

I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Bye for now.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Strange occurrence turning on the computer

Hello,

Jaws 18 and Windows 10 ..

Normally when I turn the computer on I wait approximately 10 to 20 seconds
and then Jaws will say "Jaws home use" and I'm ready to go.

Yesterday, when I turned the computer on after about 5 or 10 seconds Jaws
said "Jaws for windows, overlay windows zero, overlay windows zero, overlay
windows zero". Then, after another 5 or 10 seconds Jaws said "Jaws home
use" and I was ready to go.

I've had this computer for almost four months and this has never happened.
Has anybody experienced anything like this and is this something to be
concerned about? Thanks for any input.

Laura

[JAWS-Users] The Codex converter instructions for Kendal books

2017-09-19 Thread Nathaniel Kile
I know that many of you downloaded the codex to convert the Kendal books.

Sadly enough, the steps to convert books are right on the download page, but
never the less many passed the information by. Steps to convert Kindle
books:

1. Download Kindle app to PC

2.Go to Kindle content on the desktop,

3. Should see a list of your books, click on applications and make
sure that the book is actually downloaded

4. Open up Codex app and press Alt/T

5. Arrow down to brows downloaded Kindle books and press enter

6. Find book that you want to convert, if not in list, then it is not
downloaded into your Kindle folder

7. After you choose book, you can choose the file type, Word, Epup,
PDF and so on.

Have fun,

Hi.

I think one of two things.

1. You got a Windows update, and it was quickly finishing up the update
installation process, and JAWS had enough time to launch itself in the
secure desktop environment prior to the point where the update finished and
you were either put on the log in screen or logged in.

2. For some reason JAWS managed to launch itself once in some other desktop
environment before it ended what ever it was doing. This is related to 1
actually. You'll sometimes hear a screen reader start itself while a system
is shutting down too, this can occur if it spends enough time on the secure
desktop environment after your account is logged off before it actually
shuts down.

This doesn't hurt anything aside from that it can cause the system to take a
little longer to do what ever it's supposed to be doing. The trade off
though is to disable JAWS on the log on screen and this isn't particularly
desirable in most cases.

Thanks. Again what you described did not quite seem to be what was in my "view
settings", but thanks in part to your message, I think I have it straightened
out the way I like it, now. I turned off "automatically group by conversation"
in the "group by" dialogue and have "sort by" set to "sent, ascending".

Cheers.

Hi,
In the View tab, go to the Sort By option, and select by date. Additionally, in
this menu of sorting criteria you can check the Show in Groups option to expand
or collapse date ranges by pressing RIGHT or LEFT ARROW.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Voices for jaws 2018 beta.

2017-09-19 Thread Valiant8086

Hey.
It's Vocalizer 2.0, which I believe was initiated with JAWS 18. But your
original vocalizer voices will also work.

I didn't make any changes to JAWS for Windows 10. It should pretty much work
out of the box, so to speak. You should customise Windows to your liking as
you learn more about the OS. These are mostly the sort of changes that do
not affect JAWS one way or another though.

You might find these guides useful.

Sounds like your computer might be going to "sleep" rather than shutting
down properly. Although I don't hear JAWS announce the name of the overlay
window (if you do a window list keystroke command with shift-f10 you will
find this), I do experience similar things from time to time. I don't think
it's anything to worry about. Maybe try doing an actual restart (as in,
using the restart option in the shutdown menu). This will ensure that
anything that's gone off is reset, and any updates awaiting will be properly
installed.
