I might just take a look at other formats to satisfy my own curiosity if
nothing else. Your JAWS lesson 5 is 78 MB for example. I wonder if gold wave
will be able to do anything. I know it will open such files, again something
to fiddle with.

Hi David,
You can post them if you wish to post them.
But I think they will take up too much room on your Jaws web site, that is
why I provided the OneDrive group download link to them.
For example: the Using iTunes with Jaws part 3, is One hour and 8 minutes
long by itself.
This is the reason I record them with the voice recorder app, so I can make
long teaching tutorials with out taking up much room on OneDrive.
I would hate to think how much room they would take up on OneDrive if they
were in MP3 format, instead of in the highly compressed MP4a format of the
voice recorder app.
This is not the same MP4a format of iTunes.
This format as far as I can tell is unique to the voice recorder app.
If anyone knows differently, please share with me.
Thanks David and moderators, for allowing me to share the OneDrive link with
your group, so they can download these tutorials.

Hi Rick,
I use the voice recorder app in w-10 to record all my tutorials.
This is a highly compressed format which allows me to record long recordings
without taking up a lot of space.
This not taking up a lot of space is important for me.
For example, I have 49 tutorials on the W-10 and Jaws group.
I have 15 tutorials here.
I have several more on another OneDrive page.
I am only using about 2 GB's of my 15 GB's storage on OneDrive, for all of
these files.
Without converting my files, they will play in the following programs in
w-10.
1. the Voice recorder app.
2. Windows media player.
3. Groove music app.
4. VLC media player.
For w-7, w-8, and w-8.1, they will play in the following:
1. Windows media player.
2. VLC media player, I believe.
They will not play in iTunes, unless they are converted to MP3's, then from
iTunes, you can convert them to the iTunes MP4a format.
I hope this answers your question.

Actually, it isn't an Apple format. It's an ISO (International Organization
for Standardization) format - that is, an international standard for
compressed audio files. It is not a Microsoft proprietary format. I'm not
surprised that it's the default. m4a generally means that it uses Advanced
Audio Codec (AAC) compression, which you'll also find, for instance, on
digital radio systems around the world.

Hi Wayne,
Below are instructions for using OneDrive.
Remember when pressing enter on OneDrive for the first time.
You will go through a set up process, its hard to remember the exact steps.
I remember agreeing to the license agreement.
I think I signed into my Microsoft account if memory serves me correctly.
I chose, what folders to sinc with OneDrive.
Below are some steps to help you use OneDrive.
How to set up and use the OneDrive back up for yourself and how to share a
folder with others.
Open your personal folder link under the start area if you have it set up
that way, go down to OneDrive, press enter.
Or, type OneDrive into the search edit box, press enter on OneDrive desktop
app.
Or, if OneDrive is on your Taskbar, press enter on it there, or press its
shortcut keystroke windows key+the number of its order on the Taskbar.
Or, press the windows key, up arrow to, All apps, press enter.
Down arrow to the A's, tab one time, down arrow to the O, press enter twice,
you will be in the programs and apps starting with O, press enter on
OneDrive.
If this is your first time using OneDrive, you will need to walk through the
set up for OneDrive.
Now you will be in a list of default OneDrive folders, that you can use, or
you can create your own folders right here in OneDrive.
In this example, I will create my own folder under the main default folder
list of OneDrive.
While you are in the list of default folders under the main OneDrive folder
list.
1. Press Control+shift+N, for new folder.
2. In this example, I will type the name, "Jaws users", then press enter to
create this new folder.
3. Copy the files or folders you wish to back-up or share with others, and
paste them into this new Jaws Users folder.
Do the same thing if you wish to share this folder with others by a OneDrive
link , copy and paste any files into this new folder.
Now we need to sink our OneDrive folders if you wish too, you do not have to
sink your OneDrive folders if you do not want too.
4. Highlight the new folder, in my case, Jaws users, do not press enter.
5. Press the applications key, down arrow to, Choose OneDrive folders to
sink, press enter.
6. Now, you can choose a check-box to sink all folders.
Or, uncheck this, tab to the list view of folders, only check the folders
you wish to sink to your computer by pressing the Spacebar.
After checking all the folders you wish to sink, tab to OK, press enter.
Now, How to share this new OneDrive folder and its contents, with others
through a OneDrive link.
7. Now, highlight your new folder, in my case, Jaws users, do not press
enter.
8. Press the Applications key, go down to, Share a OneDrive link, press
enter.
By pressing Enter, This automatically pastes, a OneDrive link to this
folder, that you can share with others, into the clipboard.
9. Now, open an email to the person you wish to give access to this OneDrive
folder and all its content, in my case the Jaws users list.
10. Paste the OneDrive link into the email, this will give that person a
link to access the folder you are sharing with them.
What does it mean to sink your OneDrive folders?
When you choose to sink your OneDrive folders on your computer.
You have a copy of these files online, on your OneDrive page.
You also place a copy of these files in your OneDrive folder.
Now, the advantage of doing it this way is:
When you are inside the OneDrive folder on your computer, and inside a text
file in one of your shared folders, for example.
Whatever changes you make to that text document, are automatically changed
in the text document stored in OneDrive.
Can I use the default folders of OneDrive, to place my audio or text files
into for back up, or for sharing with others?
Yes, you can use them the same way, as I explained above.
OneDrive is a cool and easy way, to share large audio or text files with
others.
Microsoft gives each person a free 15 GB's of storage space on OneDrive.
I am currently sharing three OneDrive links to three different folders on my
OneDrive on my computer, with no issues.
If any of you still have questions about using OneDrive, please let me know.

Also, thanks to Jason White for posting info on the M4A file format.

Hi David,
You can post them if you wish to post them.

I converted your jaws 1 recording to MP3 and by removing frequencies that a

bit of software.

Over the years I have used it to record vinyl albums into the computer and
even NLS tapes such as those from my computer school days.

Hi Wayne,
Below are instructions for using OneDrive.
I am currently sharing three OneDrive links to three

[JAWS-Users] Java solves an Internet problem

2016-04-12 Thread Adrian Spratt
I posted a query a few weeks ago about my inability to locate any buttons on a
certain webpage that other JAWS users could access with ease. FS's Dennis Godin
has solved the problem, and I think it's worth posting the solution.

Some time ago, the federal government issued a warning about security lapses in
Java, and I removed it from my system. Today, Dennis godin encouraged me to
reinstall it. A quick Google check assured me that the security problems have
been fixed, so I went ahead. One nice thing for those of us who tied ourselves
in knots installing and activating early versions of Java Access Bridge, which
screenreaders need, is that JAB is now incorporated into Java. You still have
to change a setting in the Ease of Access Center, but it's a simple task.

Between Java and the JAWS insert-escape refresh command, I can now access the
webpage that annoyed me for a month.

Below I'm copying the link to the Java download page and the link to FS's Java
and JAB installation instructions. Note that when downloading Java, you're
encouraged to accept an Amazon and other features that I, for one, don't want
cluttering my system, so be sure to tab through each option as you go through
the installation process. Also, as frequently mentioned on this list, I suggest
saving the file and running it from your system instead of running it from the
website.

2016-04-12 Thread Gerald Levy

If you are using Firefox 45, the latest version, Webvisum will not work with
it because this version of Firefox disables unsigned, third-party add-ons
like Webvisum that do not comply with Mozilla's new security standards.
Webvisum will only work with Firefox 42 or earlier. Somebody on another
list posted a Drop Box link to a hacked or modified version of Webvisum that
supposedly works with Firefox 45. However, I would caution against using
this version because its origin and hence its safety are unknown.

I'm not sure, have you tried just going to Webvisum from his computer with

 You may
need to press alt-A to tell Firefox you want to allow the add-in.

No, JAWS cannot decode image captchas. The only way to solve captchas
without sighted help is to use Webvisum with Firefox, which is no longer

Hi Wayne,
Below are instructions for using OneDrive.
If any of you still have questions about using OneDrive, please let me know.

reaching His goal.

Just a suggestion is to assign your Jaws hotkey according to the version
you have.
For example I have 3 different versions of Jaws on my PC. Jaws 15, 16 and
17.
I have a hotkey for Jaws 15 as alt control 5, Jaws 16 as alt control 6 and
so on.

Not sure why you would be having a problem assigning a hotkey for Jaws 17
but remember that a hotkey can be assigned to the icon on the desk top and
to the properties of Jaws in your start menu. Both places need to have the
hotkey deleted.

key assignment, only each time I try assigning that key combo to jaws 17 in

When I open the property dialogue under 16, it shows no hotkey assigned.
What am I missing?

Actually, it isn't an Apple format. It's an ISO (International Organization
for Standardization) format - that is, an international standard for
compressed audio files. It is not a Microsoft proprietary format. I'm not
surprised that it's the default. m4a generally means that it uses Advanced
Audio Codec (AAC) compression, which you'll also find, for instance, on
digital radio systems around the world.

2016-04-12 Thread David Ferrin
It is an Apple format, you are correct my friend. I believe he uses the
native recording program in windows 10 and that is the only format it has to
offer.

I always found that strange that a Microsoft product is hard coded in such a
manner.

Re: [JAWS-Users] List of tutorials and OneDrive instructionsonusing it

2016-04-12 Thread Jim

Hi Rick,
I use the voice recorder app in w-10 to record all my tutorials.

Hi David,
You can post them if you wish to post them.

Just doing what I can to help...

No, only the windows 10 and Jaws complete guide TXT and the Settings area
with Jaws TXT, are on the Jaws site under one text document.
All the others are my audio tutorials that I share and produce for my w-10
and Jaws group.

Which I am sharing these selected tutorials with the Jaws Users group.
They would take up too much room on David's Jaws web site.
Now, if he wants to put them up there, that is fine with me.
Using the Jaws Users OneDrive download page is fairly easy.
Just a matter of getting used to something new.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Online storage

2016-04-12 Thread Jim

Hi Wayne,
Below are instructions for using OneDrive.

Love God! with your heart, mind, and soul, that you might be blessed
reaching His goal.
Love your Neighbor as you would yourself, God will truly reward you with
good health.
Love God, your neighbor, as you love yourself, you will then be spiritually
balanced with wealth.
Love His Word that proceeds from His lips, then reflect on the heavens where
God sits.

It is an Apple format, you are correct my friend. I believe he uses the
native recording program in windows 10 and that is the only format it has

I always found that strange that a Microsoft product is hard coded in such
a

manner.

Hi Jim,
Just out of curiosity, why the M4A format?
Isn't that an Apple file format?
