open phone (is openmoko the only option ?)
hi i have a Nokia N95 8GB. on the paper it is a great phone (if you look at the hardware spec) however the MMI/software sucks bigtime (like most phones on the market). so i was thinking of getting an open phone. 1. what kind of open phones are there ? is openmoko the only option ? 2. what kinds of hardwares for an open phone are there ? is freerunner the only option ? 3. specs, where to buy in israel, how much it costs. in the past i looked at some motorolla phones running linux. but i saw that getting them to compile on my one was not really viable, so although they are supposed to be open, it is not open in my book. thanks, erez.

They have content issues as well). Can anyone with journalistic leanings pick up the story and publicize it in a place like whatsup? No its not related, the error I got was not related to some specific page, but a generic XML error (caused by their server returning malformed data). BTW , for the Freerunner there is 4-5 linux based OS and oss tools . yeah, i know these desktop environments from the time i had linux installed on my ipaq, i had written a mail client (gtk-mail) and a non-volatile-ram-disk (NVRD) for it then ... i hope it is a lot more mature now, back than it was nice but not really usable as a PDA ... seeing the buzz around open-moko, i'm sure there are many developpers working on it and it might be actually usable as a pda ... Well, I'm not sure Omer did wisely when he published in a public mailing list this private response, but since it mentions me I'll respond as I did to Omar in private email previously: AFAIK Hi Tech policy is that they will only contact you if you ever contacted them, gave your email in an exhibition booth to receive details and such. I'll admit, I don't like it very much, but I can't argue that if someone was interested in a course in the past or taken one it makes sense to let him know about additional courses. I know of at least one instance when they screwed up, but I also know that it was just that - a screw up (a shabby outside contractor which they don't work with anymore). So I'll tell you what, if anyone here is getting emails from the college and he or she never contacted Hi tech before, just forward the emails to me and I'll go chew their heads. Hi, As some of you already know, the Fedora project is having major outage in the last few days. The first formal announcement was Thursday evening and sounded really bad: The Fedora Infrastructure team is currently investigating an issue in the infrastructure systems. Which obviously sent everybody speculating...
