Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Different behavior windows/linux, using tframecomp

2012-01-23 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi Martin.

Thank you for your response. I was doing something wrong, now I understand
how to set it properly.

I had to keep in mind that a tedit default frame values are not tframecomp
default ones. So I need one tframecomp for t*edit widgets and at last
another one for other (non edit) components. Setting the default values
from the t*edit frame widgets to the tframecomp, is working as expected.

Just curious why tframecomp.frarmei.left=0 show the blinking cursor in
Linux and not in Windows, probably is not very important.

Cheers

t*editwidget.frame.framei_* defines the text padding, it should be at

widget the clientrect should be shifted, I'll need to test why this does
 not

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Using external tools

2012-02-22 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi Martin

I would like to use a code formatter with MSEide. I've seen it can be done
in Project options - Tools, but I'm not sure how to use it.

One option is to use the tool ptop (included in FreePascal). It requires an
input file and an output file (that can be the same). I wonder why MSEide
doesn't use it by default. (almost any IDE out there have a code formatter.

Thanks in advance.

Please use macros in the commandline. Possible values:
 ${CURSOURCEFILE} current source file.
 ${CURMODULEFILE} current *.mfm file.
${CURSSELECTION} selected text in source editor.
${CURSWORD} word at cursor in text editor
${CURSDEFINITION} definition of the current token at cursor (Ctrl+LClick
destination), needs activated P-column (Parse source before call) to be
 current.
${CURCOMPONENTCLASS} current selected component class in form editor.
${CURPROPERTY} current selected property in object inspector.

I'll add expanding the project macros, could be useful sometimes.

 IDE before running the tool?

I had 'S' column marked so the file is saved before being reformatted. I
tried with S, without S, editing file.. not editing file... In my case
MSEide doesn't detect the file has been changed almost always (in fact only
detected once).

MSEide only detected the file changed in this way: S marked, open MSEide
and did some changes in a file, then I close and open MSEide again, execute
reformat tool.. then it detected the file was changed and ask to reload it.

If I edit the file and save it in the editor or with S option.. no changed
detected after the code is formatted. I tried JCF with all the options..
backup, inline.. and nothing.

About using a Reload option.. from my point of view, if I run a tool that
modifies a file, to reload the file is required always, so an option to do
it looks the simple way to do it. Probably the reason is the same you
argued when added S column to save the file.

I must agree with Martin. The best option would be to fix the bug
first. If the bug really cannot be found, then as a last resort, add
 the Reload option.

Yes, of course.. but what happens if the bug is a wrong way/strategy to
detect file changes? Thats why I said.. using the logic, if you change a
file.. you have to reload it.. simple.

Indeed. I too, use the JCF to do code formatting. Unfortunately the
JCF is getting a bit outdated with the language features and syntax of
FPC. Luckily it still works most of the times on my code without
 problems.

My main problem using JCF is not managing properly generics, in my case
inheriting from specialized generic class. I have to take a look at the
default JCF config file, probably I can add 'specialize' token/rules or
report a bug.

machine) i386 + freepascal 2.6.0. JCF has nothing to do with windows, it's
Jedy Code Format. I compiled it from lazarus components examples. It does
work under linux, windows and probably Mac.

You can find it here too: http://jedicodeformat.sourceforge.net/

BTW I'm only testing tools, tried ptop, JCF.. still didn't decided nothing.
JCF fits my needs I guess.

why not a 'R' column (like 'S') but for reloading files after the command

Cheers.

I'm not JCF author and because this tool runs under Delphi and Freepascal,
probably the author used windows. But this is out of topic :) Actually I
only take a look at windows, for testing purposes.

I know about the Jedi components, although I never used any. They
definitely stem from the Windows world, and they possibly even use an
emulated registry on Linux, at least your formatter seems to do so.
It's nice to know that they should compile on Linux also, but this reliance
on a registry bothers me somewhat.
Anyway, I hope your proceedings go well and you decide for the optimal
 choice.

Hallo Sieghard

I don't know what registry are you talking about. JCF uses a config file
that you can change for your needs (in part) like other programs (linux and
windows).

Regards.

Hi Martin

I have been testing with a new project, only two files main.pas and
projectname.pas

If I open *only* a file IE main.pas I can edit, save and reformat.
Always are detected the changes.

If I have the two files open (main.pas and projectname.pas) then all is
working fine untill I edit/save one of the files.

If I close one file then all is fine again.

It seems the problem is when you have more than one file open.

Cheers.

Project-Options-Tools

It allows you to execute external programs. There are a few macros you can
use. I'm my case I added a code formatter (JCF or ptop). For now it adds a
new menu to main menu (Tools).

Probably Martin can add new macros and the possibility of key accelerators.

2012-04-11 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi.

Array concept zero-based? not in objectpascal.

Why the first element must be 0? You usually think first=1, second=2
first=0?

I know there are lots of arguments about starting in 0 or 1 or whatever and
I don't want to start a 'war' because it.. My point of view is to follow
fpc/fcl direction.

Cheers

Changed in git master e8f1d49de2fc18b898d662cd19a4b2cf3ada3a1e, thanks.
BTW, I don't like the one-based FPC recno, I think it should be
 zero-based.
  What do you think?

I think zero-based is OK such as array concept.

Maybe you should raise this question in the fpc-pascal mailing list

the change could be done in FPC itself if all agree.

Wahono, I like your effort in porting MSE to SDL, but I have a doubt. When

Thank you!

2012/9/6 wahono sri wahon...@gmail.com

 Hi Martin

 I updated to https://gitorious.org/mseuniverse/mseuniverse
 SDL convertion to MSEgui :

 drawinfo.paintdevice = pixmapty = SDL_Surface
drawinfo.gc.handle = SDL_Renderer (software renderer for bitmap and
 hardware renderer for window/form)

At the moment linking GUI and GDI looks some success, but I remove
fsynccanvas (with -duse_singlecanvas) because every SDL_Window can
 create 1 SDL_Renderer only.
in msesdlgdi.pas.copy area, if you activate
 SDL_SaveBMP_toFile(drawinfo.paintdevice,'c:\bb.bmp'); to see what is
canvas content to file, I think it looks painted correctly.
But all canvas does not painted to screen.

Please take a little time to see what's wrong in my job. Please run
 testsdl.prj and switch between :

  {.$define testlib} //test SDL lib
  {$define testgui} //test MSEgui

to see how independent SDL work with testlib and link to MSEgui with
 testgui.
Only for windows because some folder management should create without SDL.

 Thanks

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Possible bug in tdbwidgetgrid

2012-12-27 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi.

I have noticed a weird behavior using tdbwidgetgrid.

If you click a cell, the selection is ok(the first time you do click), but
then if you click on another cell in other column or in the same row, the
selection shows an empty value. If the field is of type integer it shows 0
instead of the value stored in the database. If the field type is string
then it shows an empty string. If you click cells in the same column, all
is fine. The same happens if you use left/right arrow key to navigate in
the same row of the tdbwidgetgrid.

I can reproduce it in linux and windows. Using FPC 2.6.0 and MSEgui trunk.

Apart from the fact that digital video formats are a mess, isn't flv just a
container that can carry most anything around?

Yes, FLV like AVI are just containers. You still need the right codecs.

BTW, I don't understand why too much noise for a simple video file.

 Any other suggestions?

This must have happened during a recent wheezy update as it used to work

I have no problem in generating sequence value and avoid this 'issue' (in
fact I used sequences in mseide before the component was created). I was
only pointing out what other database components like ZeosLib and IBX do.

If the purpose is that the fileds values are complete in onbeforepost, then
it's ok.

Thanks.

AFAIK there can be unassigned values anyway if the transaction will be
 canceled later?

I think the correct is to generate it after post and if the value is null
  (dataset field value)

The sequence value is fetched in tdatlink.updatedata (dataevent
 deUpdateRecord):

 procedure tsequencedatalink.updatedata;
 begin
  inherited;
if (field nil) and field.isnull and (dataset nil) and
   ((dataset.modified) or
(fdscontroller nil) and fdscontroller.posting) then begin
if field.datatype in [ftlargeint, ftfloat, ftcurrency, ftbcd] then begin
field.aslargeint:= fownerlink.aslargeint;
   end
   else begin
field.asinteger:= fownerlink.asinteger;
   end;
  end;
 end;

The purpose is that the field values are complete in onbeforepost.
If you don't want this behavior don't set tsequencelink.datafield and
 assign
 the field value in onbeforepost

 thefield.asinteger:= thesequencelink.asinteger.

Another possibility is to genereate the key server-side by a trigger in
applyupdate and to set providerflags1 pf1_refreshinsert/pf1_refreshupdate
 of
the affected fields in order to automatically refresh the generated value.

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Problem with trealedit

2013-06-26 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi

There is a problem with trealedit. It doesn't allow to use the locale
decimalseparator for input.

Example.
Coutry Spain (DecimalSeparator is comma ',')
MSEide trunk
fpc fixes_2_6

I place a trealedit on a form. It shows values using DecimalSeparator.. for
example 1,23 1,01 but if I try to input a value in this way, it
complains about ie '1,2 ' ss invalid. If I input 1.2 all is fine but not
correct in Spain.

Curious if you press the decimal dot in numeric keyboard, it replaces the
dot by the comma, that's fine... but trealedit doesn't allow it.

How do you deal with this?

Thanks

This is the first release without dependence on FPC FCL and streaming

Please change db to mdb and add mclasses after classes in uses of

The development of an own compiler/interpreter has been started too.
It will take several years, stay tuned! :-)

It is planned first to make a very fast table driven frontend with a small
kernel which can be optimized to a high level. It will not use a scanner
 and
produce intermediate code which can be interpreted in remote-MSEifi
applications. Later some backends probably also for Microprocessors.

Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] MSEide+MSEgui 3.0beta1

2013-06-29 Thread Julio Jiménez
Yes Borland did a great job even when Delphi was full of bugs :D

So, may I think you are unhappy with the direction that FPC is following or
simply you think can make a better tool?

You know, Pascal community is not big and dividing efforts is not probably
a good idea. Probably you have your good reasons to take this decision, I
still think it's probably a big work for only one developer.

As Freepascal user, I'm a bit worried because actually I can share code
between FPC, Lazarus and MSEide applications with very little effort and
probably this will change if you take a different way.

I have MSEide and Lazarus applications running in production, with very
good results. With different compilers... who know what will be going on.

I'll stay tuned :)

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Object Inspector. Editing memo text issue

2013-07-03 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi

On objectinspector, editing text in the memotext dialog window, doesn't
allow to press Enter/Return key, because the effect is clicking OK button.
As workaround I use Shift+Enter/return key.

Is this as designed? or simply a side effect because OK button is active by
default.

Thanks.

I forgot to say that INTEL graphics are ok too.

2013/9/18 Julio Jiménez juj...@gmail.com

 Hi all!

After several years, it seems that the problem still persists. My
 observations:

ATI AMD proprietary fglrx graphics driver: all is fine.
NVIDIA propietary graphics driver: all is fine
Radeon xorg driver: using EXA is fine if you disable EXAPixmaps. If you
do not use EXA is ok too.(Of course you suffer a performance degrading)
NOUVEAU: The only computer I have tested, with a GeForce 8400 GS.. a total
headache. (using skins with bitmaps, fades...)

In computers with this problem, you can run MSEIDE with -ns option and all
is mostly fine but if you click in a fileselection component (like MSE
config dialog) you still see artifacts even with no skin option (-ns) do
 these components use fades/skins...?

I wonder why other toolkits like Gtk2, Cairo, Qt don't show this problem.
Perhaps they use their own implementation for stretched bitmaps.. dunno.

I would like to know how other MSE users deal with this issue.

 Thank you!

About NOUVEAU xorg driver... I'm unable to make it working properly.

Not using skins is a temporal solution, but still getting issues. You can
try it enabling EXAPixmaps in radeon (IIRC you have ATI card). run MSEide
with -ns option, open Configure MSEide dialog... do click in filenameedit
widgets.. you'll see graphics corruption of just a gray rectangle filling
the widget... That's why asked if these widgets use skins or fades...

Yes, that's why I asked if you were using fades in tfilenameedit
components... (mse config dialog).. with -ns it shows garbage (see the pics
attached to the bug report)

I wonder if it's really a bug or it's related to xrender usage... but if it
works with propietary drivers.. and with open source intel drivers too so
may be a issue related to ati and radeon open source drivers.

I got it working fine using nouveau driver too.. just had to disable thee
hw acceleration.

I added to xorg.conf

Section Device
Identifier Nouveau
Driver nouveau
Option NoAccel on
EndSection

Like for EXAPixmaps off there is a performance penalization, but this is
better than nothing and the affected computers are used for work only :D

So it seems the issue is related to graphics acceleration, not only EXA.

Now only left to wait for a FreeDesktop developer ;)

Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] About xrender and stretched bitmaps + EXA + Linux issues

2013-09-21 Thread Julio Jiménez
Hi

The true problem is the artifacts when using EXA acceleration. I'm not
going to use VESA son I didn't want to waste time investigating why it
detected and dropped the true monitor resolution and fall to 1024x768. As I
said it was probably because no xorg.con supplied and this will be fixes
setting the proper modeline in xorg.conf. This was a try when using
nouveau.modeset=0 to avoid KMS. For some ATI cards, when you use
radeon.modeset=0 it drops EXA and uses XAA and all is fine. You have MSEide
working and your radeon card uses hardware acceleration.

To make NOUVEAU working, you have to drop HW acceleration for the moment.
If you are lucky and your nvidia card is working fine with nvidia
propietary drivers.. then you can use it. From my experience some nvidia
cards + propietary drivers = nightmare.

The bug has been reported, only left to wait :)

Thanks.

content: options radeon modeset=0

Added to xorg.conf (or your xorg config file...) Device section:

Option AccelMethod XAA

in this way, I have MSEide working fine and have hardware acceleration. 3D
performance is worse than using EXA but 2D is really fine. My perception is
that it's faster using 2D than EXA. (XAA was the old and working
acceleration method)

Haven't tried if nouveau supports XAA

I hope this helps other MSE users.

Cheers.

Yes, it's another option :)

BTW, I only have ATI cards around.. so I can't test it. It happened doing a
quick test on a computer of a colleague. I haven't problems configuring my

I forgot to say XAA was dropped in newer xorg versions, still working in
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Debian 7.

For new xorg versions, disabling EXAPixmaps or disabling acceleration is
the only way for the moment.

abs() does not exist in C (you can of course do a simple #define macro
 for that).

Not true. You can find it in stdlib.h

Yes.. of course ;) almost everything is in a library.. but it's standard
library. Abs in pascal is also in a library (System unit) is not part of
the language.. like almost every thing.

I'm not sure but probably stdlib.h is in every C implementation out there.

Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] MSElang, implicit type conversions

2013-12-18 Thread Julio Jiménez

 Really ?

I had the impression that it is a compiler builtin.

Probably I'm wrong in the concept. Compiled by default doesn't mean is part
of the language IMHO, you also can apply the same to abs in C language
stdlib.h

curious.. you can read http://www.freepascal.org/docs-html/rtl/system/

...The system unit contains the standard supported functions of Free
Pascal. It is the same for all platforms. Basically it is the same as the
system unit provided with Borland or Turbo Pascal

standard.. like standard lib in C

I was only responding to your sentence:

abs() does not exist in C (you can of course do a simple #define macro
for that).

You don't need to define abs in C, just use stdlib.h, this is what I wanted
to say.. :)

2014-04-26 Thread Julio Jiménez
Problems exist with FPC 32 and 64 bits ;)

From my side I'm using FPC alone, FPC+MSEide and FPC+Lazarus. All the
programs are running fine in x32 and x64 bits except MSEide ones. I have
found problems using some DLL 32 bits in windows 64 (exactly windows 8.1).
The x64 version of the program with x64 DLL are running fine.

I prefer 32 bits versions, but mates want 64 bit too and every day there
are more 64 bits hosts out there.

No. I read that there are still problems with FPC win64 and that it is not
recommended by the FPC team. On Linux too, 32 bit FPC is preferable over
64bit. Why do you need it?

2014-04-26 Thread Julio Jiménez
Yes I knew it. It's for Lazarus compiled for win64 not for FPC ;)

I use cross compiling from linux to win32 and win64 and no problems as
suggested in your link.

Its fixed in fpc trunk (2.7.x series) but MSEide doesn't support it for the
moment. There are also problems with lazarus 32 bits when using libs
compiled without * -mstackrealign* IIRC (reported for Ubuntu 14.04 and
Lazarus GTK2 i386) this doesn't mean nobody is going to use Lazarus for
i386 because it.

Probably Win64 is not a priority for you, but every day there are more
computers running 64 bits OS and probably you need to keep an eye on it.

BTW. I know MSEide doesn't support FPC 2.7.x (future FPC 2.8) and because
the MSELang stuff I wonder if you have plans to support it in the future or
not.

Thanks.
