A word regarding Airfoil
Hi! List members will be aware that I purchased both Google Chromecast II and Google Chromecast Audio9 devices and I'm very happy with both. What I didn't know was that Airfoile For Windows - at present - doesn't stream to Chromecast Compatible devices of which there are many now including some of the latest Televisions and speaker systems. I wrote to the company who develop Airfoil and they assure me that the streaming of audio content to Chromecast devices is coming to the Windows version of airfoil shortly and that day can't come quickly enough as far as I'm concerned, Chromecasts are incredibly nifty devices. There is a Chromecast Ultra device available but I felt no need to buy one of these as its only advantage would appear to be the handling of 4K HD pictures. The Chromecast Ultra does have an Ethernet port on the power adapter which you very well may need if you're planning to use 4K streaming as some Wi-Fi connections may not have the grunt to power the bandwidth needed for this type of bandwidth hungry content.

I’m very much looking forward to trying this new version of Airfoil for Mac given its extra abilities available now to stream to Chromecast compatible devices. I would assume that a similar update for the Windows version of Airfoil will follow before too long. read the blog post below. > https://weblog.rogueamoeba.com/2016/10/28/airfoil-5-5-now-playing-on-chromecast/ > > <https://weblog.rogueamoeba.com/2016/10/28/airfoil-5-5-now-playing-on-chromecast/> ** Those of a positive and enquiring frame of mind will leave the rest of the halfwits in this world behind.
Airfoil For Windows
Hi! I seem to recall a fello list member having some issues with Airfoil. A new update has just been released it seems so perhaps that list member - if he hasn't already done so - might like to apply the Airfoil Software Update now on offer. This is easily done, launch Airfoil and Airfoil should tell you if an update is available for download, if not then go to the Hlep menu and select Check For Software Update.

Okay you’re going to have to do this search on spec meaning that you may not come up with a result to solve your problem immediately, you may have to browse forums a little or vary the search request. Go into Google and type in the search box something like airfoil transmission problems and see what you get. You can vary your search if you like by typing something like airfoil VLC transmission problems. Let me know how you get on. > On 31 Jul 2016, at 11:39 PM, Fanus <buys.fa...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Hello Dane > I am not that familiar with google, so how would you construct the search > term? > Regards > Fanus > > > From: Dane Trethowan > Sent: Sunday, July 31, 2016 2:43 PM > To: PC Audio Discussion List > Subject: Re: Airfoil For Windows > > Yes that’s true and I’m sorry that I can’t help either because I’ve never had > that problem in all the time I’ve used Airfoil and that’s been quite a few > years now, have you looked around on Google for a possible solution? Re: Airfoil For Windows
Hello Dane I still have the problem that I can not stream with Airfoil. VLc lets the music sound like a robot and Winamp just makes crackles. I filled in the support form but got no answer. It is really a pity that one pays for software and can’t use it. Regards Fanus From: Dane Trethowan Sent: Sunday, July 31, 2016 8:22 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Airfoil For Windows Hi! The accessibility of Airfoil has come quite a long way since I started using the Windows version, you can use the tab key to move between the various panels of the software, for example each AirPlay device will have its own panel where you can turn transmission of a stream on and off, adjust the volume of the output and so on. The buttons aren't labeled but they'ear easy enough to work out. The bigger problem is entering one's licence key, it can be done but you'll most likely need to use the JAWS Cursor or WE Cursor to find where the information should be entered. So what can you stream using Airfoil? Pretty much anything that exists on your computer, capture an Applications audio for example or capture the output of a sound device or TV Tuner. So now to Bluetooth and the ability to handle Bluetooth is a recent addition to the capabilities of Airfoil If you have a computer which is capable of streaming to Bluetooth devices you can pair your devices and have Airfoil transmit to them independent of your computers speech and other sound. You can also define "Groups", you might like to put say two different devices into a group and transmit straight to the group rather than connect each device independently, saves a lot of time.

Re: Rogue Amoeba | Airfoil: Wireless audio around your house
I've not experienced anything like this so can't comment except to say that on the Airfoil web site there are heaps of troubleshooting tips so you might like to get your friend Google onto this as I've done in the past when I've had Airfoil issues. Again, make sure your firewall is allowing Airfoil to have access to all the resources it needs. Now the buttons will be obvious as you test, one will minimise Airfoil, another exits Airfoil and another brings up the source list, these are the devices you can capture sound from to be streamed to your Airport Express or whatever. Another thing you’ll have to possibly look at is your Firewall, Airfoil probably won’t be able to transmit to your Airport Express until your Firewall allows it to do so, in which case Airfoil will probably report an error message and your Firewall - depending on what you’re using - may come up and ask you if you wish to allow Airfoil to connect to your network or similar. Hi! Other list members would know that I've been using Airfoil for Mac and Windows now for a very long time and I often post Blog entry's from the developer here. This entry is of particular interest to those who have a Google Chromecast or Chromecast audio unit who are thinking of using Airfoil to stream to their Chromecast product and why not! Airfoil already streams to Bluetooth and airplay devices so streaming to Chromecast devices is a logical step forward though - as you'll see in the entry - Airfoil isn't quite there yet but at least Chromecast hasn't been forgotten and neither it should be as its one of the ever expanding streaming methods of uaudio/video given the price of the units etc. http://weblog.rogueamoeba.com/2016/03/01/airfoil-and-chromecast-devices/

Re: Airfoil Speakers For Android App
Hi all I like AIrfoil a lot and one day might try it using Apple TV to transmit the stream from my Mac running AIrfoil. Ah, so the white noise is mixed in with the stream then. The overlaid got a little confusing for me, meaning it will either modulate or somehow corrupt the stream so that it's garbled to say the least. For the benefit of the hard of hearing, is the white noise loud enough to be a motivation to rush to your device(s) and stop the stream quickly? Sorry if this may sound stupid, but in case time gets the best of me and the ten minutes has way, way past. I did pay for Airfoil 3 a while back, but I think will pay again to upgrade to 4, but not without trying it with Apple TV first. Anyway thanks for any responses on this. This state of affairs is still true for part of the software as far as I can see, you still need to tab to the Source button so you may select which video/sound source you want for streaming but at least all your AirPlay streaming targets can be found organised for you in a menu. Wonderful Job With Airfoil For Windows
I'm using the latest updates for Airfoil For Windows, haven't used the App in a while and I have to say the updated version is a huge leap forward from the earlier versions I had used, the Interface is far easier to get around for a start. Airfoil is an App you can use to stream audio sources from your computer to an AirPlay device or another computer running Airfoil Speakers. As well as being able to control Airfoil and the audio from your computer you can use IOS/Android Controler Apps from mobile devices to do the job.

Hello all. I have enquired with the company Rogue Amoeba about the noise that is overlaid on all transmissions longer than 10 minutes. You are listening out for a white noise type of static. This is of course if you are using the demo. Also to let you know I have downloaded and installed the beta of the next major release, version 3. So I will give feedback to them regarding accessibility. Chat soon. -- Chris Hallsworth Sent from Thunderbird To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

I've been looking on the web and in the help, but all they are saying is either noise is overlayed or the audio quality is degraded. Would like to know so as to what to expect. Would love to try it but silly me is scared of what's going to happen. Many thanks. -- Chris Hallsworth Sent from Thunderbird To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: Airfoil for Windows
I forgot to mention it allows you to wirelessly stream audio from one device running Airfoil Speakers or an Apple Airport Express or Apple TV to the computer where Airfoil is installed and running. Neat if you want to broadcast your music collection or audio books around your house. Like I say the trial is fully functional however noise is overlaid on transmissions longer than 10 minutes. The cost is $25 and you can get it from www.rogueamoeba.com. Happy streaming! Chris Hallsworth Sent from Thunderbird On 28/06/2011 11:18, chris hallsworth wrote: Hello all. Depends what you mean by decent. Smiles. May try piping the audio to my netbook at some point. Quality won't be good, very true, but at least the setup should work and Airfoil works as advertised. Re: Airfoil for Windows
You won't need a cable at all. Just download the free Airfoil Speakers Touch, run it, run Airfoil on your computer, click the transmit button, and audio will pipe, or be sent to your iPod Touch. Hope this helps. Chris Hallsworth Sent from Thunderbird On 28/06/2011 20:07, Brent Harding wrote: Wow, so if I got this, I could finally get rid of that audio cable I use for my IPod touch? Making Airfoil accessible
Hi! I've written about Airfoil on list before so just to summarise, Airfoil is a piece of software which allows the streaming of audio/video from the computer it is running on. This content can then be received by another computer or IOS4 device running Airfoil Speakers, an Airport Express, Apple TV and so on. The Airfoil software for the Mac is accessible right out of the box but the same cannot be said regarding Airfoil for Windows. I have found ways with Window-Eyes to make the software usable and I did this by reclassing the custom controls to Trackbars, now when you use the Tab key to move about the Screen Reader will tell you where the focus is. Suppose for example you have Airfoil Speakers running on your Iphone and you're tabbing around in Airfoil on your computer, WE will announce your Iphone by the name you've given it in Airfoil Speakers on that device, at that point just press the spacebar and transmission of the audio/video from your computer is started to your iphone. The source menu is perfectly accessible and you know when focus is there so you can set the source of audio/video to be transmitted. I know a lot of you use JAWS, not sure of procedures here as I don't use JAWS though I'm sure that JAWS users will be able to adapt what I've written to suit their needs. You can download a trial of Airfoil and Airfoil Speakers from http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/windows/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: airfoil
You can't send the signal directly to a FM radio, you need an Airport Express, but what you need is an aux input on your radio or a piece of software for another computer so the Airport Express can pick up a signle and play it on the device you want. For example, I have a bose wave system in my kitchen and a bose sound dock in my livingroom. I found some Airport Expresses cheap enough for me to buy a couple. I put one in the kitchen and one in the Livingroom. I hooked the one in the kitchen to the aux on my wave system and the one in the livingroom to the aux on my sound dock. I also have a windows pc in an office and on it I have a piece of free software called Airfoil Speakers. Now my main computer is in the den along with a router. If I want to listen to say a football game or a podcast or something in any of the other rooms I mentioned I just bring up what I want to listen to on the main computer and through Airfoil route it to where ever I want it to go in the other three rooms. airport express and airfoil was question about ccrane transmitter
Hi Everyone! Upon reading other posts here there seems to be quite some confusion as to what I'm talking about, perhaps I didn't explain it correctly so I'll give it another try. The original question was from a list member regarding volume levels for his FM transmitter and I suggested an Airport Express as an alternative, other people have suggested other alternatives. Now I'm not exactly sure what people are thinking here because an Airport Express really has nothing to do with Itunes, yes! you can use Itunes with an Airport Express but more of that in a moment. An Airport Express is in fact a small Wi-Fi base station which can be used that way or an extension to a network, i'll give the web site address out later so you can find out more information about its network capabilities suffice to say that its incredibly versatile. Anyway, the Airport Express is a box about 3 inches square that plugs into the AC power, it has 2 sockets on it, one being a 100MBPS ethernet socket and the other being a 3.5MM analogue/optical digital audio out jack and here's where the fun starts, you can stream to this Airport Express and by using the audio out jack, have your audio piped to whatever device you prefer, a set of computer speakers, the aux in of a boom box, the digital in of a surround-sound system etc. Now back to Itunes - which incidentally the blind can use on both Windows and Mac machines without sighted help - it will detect these Airport Express modules, in fact you can have more than one in your system, I have 3 and each is in a different room connected to different audio devices so Itunes can stream your audio to these but it doesn't stop there so now we come to the software Airfoil. Airfoil takes or rather Hijacks the audio source of applications - say Winamp or Windows Media Player - and streams this to the Airport Express or to a separate software application called Airfoil Speakers, this software is used on another computer somewhere in the house thus turning it into a pair of remote Speakers. So that's about all for my explanation and I hope I've painted a better picture but as you can see, the Airport Express has several great advantages over FM transmission which is why I opted for it in the first place, no interference problems, crystal clear sound, you can transmit surround-sound audio if you need to and so on and the price of one of these things? Well I don't know what the price of the Ccrane transmitter was but I'd be willing to bet the Airport Express would be about the same price. You can find out more about Airport Express at http://www.apple.com/airportexpress and yes, its not computer specific meaning that its a network device so you can configure it with whatever operating system takes your fancy. Re: airport express and airfoil was question about ccrane transmitter
but you have to have a computer where you want to hear your music right? I think that might be the advantage of an fm transmitter. Let's say i have a radio in my bathroom. With an fm transmitter i can still listen to the audiobook I was reading on my computer while I get ready for work. Re: airport express and airfoil was question about ccrane transmitter
No no, you don't have to have a computer where you want the music, that's the whole point, Airport Express is a box on its own but if you don't want one you can use Airfoil Speakers on a computer, iphone etc instead. Brett Boyer wrote: but you have to have a computer where you want to hear your music right? I think that might be the advantage of an fm transmitter. Let's say i have a radio in my bathroom. With an fm transmitter i can still listen to the audiobook I was reading on my computer while I get ready for work. Maybe that's a strange scenario but there you go. bb - Original Message - From: Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net To: PC Audio Discussion List Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, January 09, 2010 9:51 AM Subject: airport express and airfoil was question about ccrane transmitter Hi Everyone! Hello Brett and list: Yeah..that's how I use my transmitter (I haven't read books there)..but often times, if I want to listen to WSM while taking my shower, I bring the stream up on the computer; then turn on this little dinky clock radio I have in the bathroom! But hey..am sure other people read books (or listen to the paper)..while in the bathroom; why not!
