[PD] smooth random numbers
Hello i have asked this is a few different ways and experimented but i am wondering, how does one create smooth random numbers that flow between each number instead of hoping from number to number? I would like to start creating random midi values from 0-127 and pick each number say every 5 second and have each random number then flow to the next smoothly. so if say the first number is 60 and the second is 85, the data stream would flow from 60, 61, 62 63.until it reached 85 and then from 85 smoothly to the next random selection. [PD] Japanese PD books
Hello I was browsing on Amazon and I found quite a few books in Japanese written about pure data. I am wondering if there are any translations of these out there? I am currently reading the multimedia programming with pd and it seems nice so far but I am hoping and wondering if there is a more GEM focused book out there? Also, I wanted to pose/ask this question again regarding sequential patch playback. Peter and Marian's extended view toolkit kind of do this a little bit but I am wondering again if there is any way to configure or program pd to play a patch and then transition to another patch so that pd may be used for theatrical performances. I currently use Isadora for this but I still wish I could use pd for this purpose. I have fashioned playlist- but i would love to go from one Gem scene to the next with timed fades. I kind of can achieve to with pd syphon on Mac but my main theatre computer right now is a windows box. Re: [PD] Extended View toolkit : issue with masks
I found the same behavior, Marian and Peter wrote some amazing software there but you have to have a really fast graphics card for some of the fancier modules. In both cases, ev_pro_22 or ev_pro_22easy, I send a texture ID. So the chain with ev_pro_22 is not the one that does the work from movie to texture (the CPU part), it's done once by another chain. For what I understand, using the same texture ID for different gem chains avoids using the CPU for each chain, you use CPU only to transform your image, movie or whatever to a texture (which is stored in the GPU memory), then each chain links to the texture ID which is the position of the texture in the graphic card's memory. Am I wrong ? For instance, in the same work I do texturing on 200 pmpd masses linked to a gem chain. So 200 independant rendering chains, one texture, and this works without a problem. And there's no shader involved Moreover, the texture used for masking is a only one black pixel (see the masking example), so how come this could be so heavy ? 2013/10/10 Santi belfe...@gmail.commailto:belfe...@gmail.com El jue, 10-10-2013 a las 11:52 +0200, Etienne Landon escribió: Is there any reason why ev_pro_22easy is less efficient than ev_pro_22 ? I don't want to sell anything I want to use the programs for my own use on a tablet, plain and simple. How did RJDJ do it? I'm curious. I was under the impression it was under GPL, not LGPL. I just looked and saw that, indeed, the LICENSE.txt file says LGPL and the expr source code print out GPL on startup. The reason I think it's actually GPL is that that is how IRCAM released it -- as part of jMAX, years ago. The current code is based on that original code. Although it was extensively reworked by Shahrokh, I presume the GPL terms under which he was working required him to release the result under GPL too. So for the moment at least, I'm afraid FUD rules. My vote would be to keep all the original GPL licenses in Pd vanilla's expr, and to remove the LGPL readme. GPL was the licensed under which expr was originally released, so we can reasonably assume all the copyright holders agreed to that license. If the consensus was that it should be changed in order to accomodate Pure Data builds on IOS, then everyone who wants to use expr on IOS should pool their resources and hire a lawyer to explain what is and isn't allowed under the LGPL and Apple's TOS. The lawyer should also find out if it was indeed possible to change the license to LGPL in light of what Miller brings up about the original licensing. That's two unknowns wrt LGPL expr, and they won't be solved by revising the source nor IANAL discussions. Best, Jonathan cheers Miller On Sat, Oct 05, 2013 at 02:27:37AM +0900, i go bananas wrote: I am the one who originally pushed for expr license change, and contacted apple, and the original expr licensees, etc here's what happened, in summary, from my foggy memory: i contacted the original author of expr, Mr Yadegari, and explained the situation that expr was in a strange limbo between vanilla pd and pd-extended. It's included in vanilla, but there license is different, etc etc... When we looked into it, we found that the original license for expr was in fact LGPL, not GPL, as stated in the pd documentation. (So, as Iohannas suggests, a bug report might be a good idea) When i asked about the possibility of changing to the pd style BSD license, Mr Yadegari was totally fine with that, and said that is what he had wished anyway. However, the expr license was now under control of the university, and i would have to contact the relevant people to ask about changing the license to BSD. In the meantime, i had called Apple, and asked about the legality of GPL, and they said GPL was not permitted, as you need to release the code with the app, and they don't have that facility built in to their app store. Then when i asked about the possibility of LGPL, which doesn't need the source code included in the package, they sent me from person to person, and i never got a straight answer... basically they told me that if i wanted to use LGPL, i would have to hire a lawyer to speak with their lawyer. Soit seemed like changing the expr license to BSD would be the best option. I contacted another developer who Mr Yadegari referred me to, and we spoke about the possibility of changing the license. He said no one had touched expr for years, but couldn't see any reason why not to change it. He said he'd need to check with the relevant department at the university, and with the other developers who had taken on the caretaking of expr. And then, university summer holidays started, before i could go any further, and i never heard back again about the license. So, as far as i understand, the expr developers i spoke to all seemed fine with the idea of BSD, but we just never got as far as getting everyone together and making the change. With the project I'm working on atm I couldn't get my pmpd patch to even run with the standard install (there is quite a lot going on though). Now the patch runs fine with a whole heap of other stuff on top of that (2 sensors, 6 channel soundcard etc). My htop reading fills me with joy-I think there's about a dozen processes including 3 shells. It seems related to the Hide flag for a 2nd level nested GOP patch. it'd be great if somebody could test it on linux and mac. I'm on Ubuntu Lucid 10.04, pd-ext 0.43.4 how to reproduce: - launch MAIN-graph-bug.pd - click the bang to open a subpatch (if it doesn't at startup) - close the subpatch - close MAIN-graph-bug.pd at this point Pd throws the error as below. Only the GUI freezes, the patch is unusable and have to kill it, by closing pd. (Tcl) INVALID COMMAND NAME: invalid command name .x996ebd0.c while executing .x996ebd0.c delete graph996f4b0i0 (uplevel body line 1) invoked from within uplevel #0 $cmds_from_pd How to avoid it: - launch MAIN-graph-bug.pd - click the bang to open a subpatch (if it doesn't at startup) - open the subpatch - open the further subpatch anlz.scope~ - flag hide object name and argument - save -close pd - restart the patch and the error disappear It is worth noting that the error I get with the Xth Sense software looks similar but has different tags (see below). And I can't reproduce this one error using a subpatch including a graph or iem_image (which I use in the Xth Sense) (Tcl) INVALID COMMAND NAME: invalid command name .x9c4d3b0.c while executing .x9c4d3b0.c create image 900 776 -image a4304c0PHOTOIMAGE -tags a4304c0PHOTO (uplevel body line 283) invoked from within uplevel #0 $cmds_from_pd \ should i submit a different bug report or add to the one I did already? thanks in advance for any hint, this is forcing me to still use pd-ext 0.42.5 during my workshop, which is a shame :) -- Marco Donnarumma New Media + Sonic Arts Practitioner, Performer, Teacher, Director. Hi I know this is kind of OT, but I am interested if people are successfully using vloopback on linux with pure data and lpmt or any other applications I would like to use it with Veejay, Pd and lpmt but I am having a few issues with setting it up Whati would like to do is take video OUT of Veejay and into pure data and then use lpmt to map it. pp ___ Pd-list@iem.at mailing list UNSUBSCRIBE and account-management - http://lists.puredata.info/listinfo/pd-list
[PD] pdp_artoolkit
Has anyone got this to work? I have tried many source trees of ARToolkitPlus and I cannot seem to get the configure in the CVS of pidip to see ANY of them ./configure -with-artkp= does not seem to find it. Have you got it to compile? Where and which version of the artkp sources are you using? Re: [PD] managing freeframe and frei0r plugins WAS: pidip
One should be able to cycle through both freeframe and frei0r plugins without having to call it specifically Currently in Gem, there is not pix_frei0r, I would love if there was but there are over 100 plugins and there should be a number selector to select which one for example: [number 1-x] | [pix_frei0r] | [pix_film] And the same for pix_freeframe instead of for example Having to do [pix_freeframe bloom] Also one of the nicest features of pidip is the porting of effectTV effects http://effectv.sourceforge.net/ so again a [pix_effectTV], would be very desirable as well -Original Message- From: Hans-Christoph Steiner [mailto:h...@at.or.at] Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2013 1:09 PM To: me.grimm Cc: Pagano, Patrick; pd-list@iem.at; John Harrison Subject: managing freeframe and frei0r plugins WAS: pidip I don't use any of this stuff, but I'm happy help make it easy to use plugins. That is supremely cool. Are there examples included for pdp_artoolkit? Students had a hard time with the fiducials at first and a simple example goes a long way. Currently, as I said I used the built version of pdp and it loads, when I compiled pdp_0.12-6 it gave a linking error with gsl Please let me know when you complete these, I would love to try them out. Documentation both for pdp and pidip could use an overhaul, though.
