RE: BREXIT !
Bipin - you should know that the "Droit de Seigneur" which gave the right of the local landowner to have the first night with a bride, came from Norman French law and was repealed a very long time ago, having already fallen into disuse decades earlier. While the Scots may still harbour resentment after the '15 and the '45, they have also been the beneficiaries of North Sea oil for the last 40 years at least, with better employment figures than many other parts of the UK. Worth noting too is that Scotland has not been a viable entity economically, and has relied on both UK and EU financial support. As someone born and grown up in the UK, I am aware that there are independence movements in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland with a seemingly impossible-to-placate hatred for Great Britain - there isn't much more we can do for them, having offered the Scots a referendum to leave, which they rejected, and given the Irish their own republic. Wales could never stand on its own anyway. The separation of the Scottish pound from sterling, was, I believe, a requirement of membership of the EU, but I am open to correction on that. Hello Steve, I have lived in Scotland while working for General Motors in Motherwell near Ardrie & Peterhead up North near the oilfields. The Scotts are "high thinking & simple living" type folks. Very un-materialistic and most of them are minimalists. Their stark lives are in contrast to that of the rest of the UK. So I believe they think & respond with their brains rather than their hearts. Their vote to remain with the EU is more to do with the greater humanistic European thinking & democratic ideals, their art & culture. Then also they get greater support & sympathy from Europe rather than Britannia. For centuries the Scotts have only received humiliation & treachery from the British. One ridiculous law was that a newly married Scott couple had to send the bride for the first night to the British Governor. What a shame. Their dislike for the British is at once visible. How many of you know that the Scottish Pound is a different currency from the British Pound before the Euro?? Regards. A lovely photo, Rick, and a fine homage to your mother. My mother died in January 2008. She is still with me, and will be forever. I set the limit of allowed ISO when I use TAV. Is the lighting a real issue. Paul? I see fairly heavy grain level in these. K-1 low light video
I was practicing with the K-1 at a local dance last night and decided to give the video a try. It may suck for videography, but I was gobsmacked by what it could do in light that not long ago was a challenge to take still photos in. I posted the videos to facebook, which mangled them worse than they do stills. Here is one for the curious: https://www.facebook.com/ellarsee/videos/10154360479659673/ It was actually a lot clearer on my computer before posting. I should have also leaned a bit harder on the ISO. TL;DW when it comes to features and UI for video, the K-1 may suck, but the sensor is amazing, abso-f-lutely amazing. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) http://red4est.com/lrc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: OT: BREXIT !
I've felt sorry for Britain and the kind of rhetoric that has been tossed around. Reminds me of the debate in my country in 1994, before our referendum. Back then it seemed that the less people actually knew, the more absolutist their arguments. And there was a lot of absolutism. I think it will be very difficult to gauge the consequences in the long term. UK is probably in for a few surprises - take a look at how much Norway has to pay for market access - that will not manifest until extricated, but at the same time the business and marketplace will adapt continuously. Cause and effect will be difficult to separate in hindsight too. Personally I worry that other countries like Spain will folow suit. The ghost of the finance crisis in Greece could ne stirred too. At least there will be an additional £350M put into the NHS every week as a result of the exit. Oh wait, it turns out that that was a mistake. Seriously, best of luck. As several market analysts pointed out today, major financial disruptions only seem major at the time; be patient, and over time what seemed momentous will in retrospect be seen as a mild kerfuffle. Hopefully that will prove true for the financial markets and for all aspects of daily living in a post-Brexit UK. stan > On Jun 24, 2016, at 9:13 AM, Steve Cottrellwrote: > > On 24/6/16, Daniel J. PESO - Branford Point, In Memoriam
My mother died peacefully last Thursday at an excellent hospice in Branford, very near where I took this photo. To her I owe my love of choral singing, canoes, mountain lakes, hiking, cooking... and so, so much more. A onetime sketch and watercolor artist, she always encouraged my photography, and had several of my prints hanging in her apartment. Her spirit is everywhere, yet I miss her. BREXIT !
Regards. Thanks Gonz. I’m very pleased with the K-1 and the new glass. As usual, I think the Pentax lenses exceed the camera in terms of achieving a high level of performance and quality. All much more than I actually need of course. I was doing fine with my APS-C cameras, although a couple of my clients might have raised their eyebrows if they knew I was shooting anything less than what they consider professional equipment. But my main reason for upgrading is that I like nice toys; I’m old and I’ve had a rough year. I’m probably not long for this planet. Might as well have some fun. Re: OT: Film Oddity
So my opinion of the camera when released has been vindicated by someone else' experience. It's always nice to have your gut reaction, with no data at all, turn out to be true. It's too bad, it looked like it should be a nice camera. It had the same autofocus module as the *ist-D, better than the three AF points in the MZ-3 and ZX-5n. I bought an MZ-3 used which lasted about a year before the shutter went. I really expected it to last longer than that, but I have no idea what it went through before I got it. On 6/24/2016 8:48 AM, Mark C wrote: The *ist just advances the film one frame at at time and rewinds at the end of the roll. I bought 3 of them in the past few years. With the battery grip it was a nice sized camera, compact but not too small,. The AF was pretty good (though focus points were clustered way too tightly). It is really a fun camera but the build quality is terrible. None of my three lasted more than a few months - shutter buttons stop working, control wheels jam, the plastic covers on switches just crumble away after a few weeks of light use. And I just kept it around the house for casual shooting. Mark On 6/23/2016 4:26 PM, P.J. Alling wrote: I think the film *ist did that too, but I never wanted to own one, so I don't actually know.
