French trip

2017-06-15 Thread Bob W-PDML
I've been back from my French bike ride since Sunday evening. I didn't do as
much as I'd planned, unfortunately. By the time I'd arrived at Montlucon it was
too late to cycle the 400km to Avignon through the Ardeche, so I jumped on a
train and had three unplanned and enjoyable days in Avignon, which is a great
city.

Here are some of the photos I've been able to look at so far.

https://web-options.com/2017/06/15/a-few-shots-from-avignon/

https://web-options.com/2017/06/15/lisle-sur-la-sorgue/

I'll publish some more next week. Going away this weekend (shooting film on my
M3), so can't do anything for a few days.

I have a little photo exhibit opening at the Carnegie Center for the
Arts in nearby Three Rivers, Michigan. It was hung yesterday - nice
venue in the what would have once been the main lobby of an old Carnegie
Library. Its a collection of the plant photos I've been working on
lately and is named "Botanical Studies."

Here's a geso of the images in the show:

And here is the announcement post on my website:

http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/index.php/botanical-studies-exhibit

I've shared many of the images in the past few months, though in most
cases the posted images were not the final print. All of the photos were
made between February and May of this year - kind of a first for me to
come up with a photo project and see it through to a framed set of
prints in a fixed time.

Four other exhibits are opening at the center on the same day - so this
Sunday's reception should be interesting.

I've shared many of the images in the past few months, though in most
cases the posted images were not the final print. All of the photos were
made between February and May of this year - kind of a first for me to
come up with a photo project and see it through to a framed set of

Four other exhibits are opening at the center on the same day - so this

Re: (which photos) I'm going to try to sell this Saturday

I've never had a good handle on what folks want either. "it'll look good over
the couch" is something that does not resonate with me. So when I had the
opportunity to participate in a print sale, I picked photos that I liked and
put them up for sale. My tastes are often considered a bit odd, but I managed
quite a few print sales anyway...

It's very hard to know what's going to sell at print sales. I look at photos on
sale at various local shows and see nothing I would buy, but I see dozens of
people carrying those prints home. It's perplexing.

I had already upgraded to the Hawk HPS brake pads and high temp fluid

I've got some WRX rotors and calipers for the front, but can't really

17 year old ones with 200,000 miles on them, I went ahead and did the swap.

The swap proved to be more fun than expected. In short the radiator *nearly*
fit. Actually the radiator fit in the car just fine, it's just that the mounts
for the fans were probably for another model of Impreza (WRX?) and I had to do
a bit of improvisational engineering to get everything to fit properly,
including trimming the fan shrouds and fabbing a hi-tech bracket:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/34197026694/in/album-72157682511146590/

The other problem I had on my last venture to Thunderhill was my brakes getting
too hot and becoming significantly less effective after a lap or so. I've
attempted to remedy this with some brake vents:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157684551175715

Also suggest you fill and hang a couple canvas water bags on your car's bumper.
(No way you'd
remember those, I'm sure) :-)

Not exactly an ideal solution for out on the track.

Do you have metallic brake pads? They are a reasonably effective way to reduce
