BTW, for the author: If this application is as cool as it seems, then I

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Non-Alien BBC?

2009-05-18 Thread bpa

Ah-ha! So, is the non-Alien BBC R7 stream I can get identical (in terms
of audio quality) to the one I can get via Alien?

Unfortunately - more or less - yes. The WMA (except Woreld Service)
use 48kbps streams and RealAudio use 64kBits/sec stream. WMA and
RealAudio use different codecs and so can sound different depending on
content (e.g. pop/rock, classical, speech). The higher quality 128kbps
MP3 streams are not available outside of the UK.

If you want to create an SC or SN favorites (as sometime SC provided
URls are out of date) for the WMA BBC streams - these BBC pages list the
URLs - make sure you use the Windows Media section.

http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/finding_programmes/real_wma_streams

and World service WMA

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: AlienBBC 2.5

2009-05-18 Thread epoch1970

Hi. For me AlienBBC 2.5 works great on SC7.3.2/debian linux.
I have noticed that, probably due to connection failures or timeouts,
my machine can pile up inactive mplayer/flac processes over time. They
take no CPU, but a little memory and I am looking to make the headless
server as reliable as possible.
I guess I didn't wait for the TCP idle timeout, which is stock -at over
2hrs I guess. Will the processes go away after the timeout ?
Is there a recommended setting/admin measure to keep the number of
mplayer/flac processes from bulging ?

I repeat, the plugin works great. I love it and I am grateful for it.

Can you get a log (See WebUI Settings/Advanced/Logging) with

1. Note time
2. Try a station
3. Copy into a plain text file *all* log entries from noted time until

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SqueezeScrobbler 1.0 forSqueezeCenter 7.0

2009-05-18 Thread Craig, James
I guess this is because there's some MySQL specific code in the plugin and 7.4
has switched back to MySQL.

Are many people still using SqueezeScrobbler?
I expect the radio side of the plugin is either going to or already has stopped
working, and I don't plan to update it any more.
Is it worth me keeping the Scrobbler side going?

The key log entry:

(260)couldn't find binary for: mplayer.sh

I checked
/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Alien/Bin/mplayer.sh

# ls -l mplayer.sh
-rw-r--r-- 1 squeezecenter squeezecenter 1295 2009-05-06 20:08
mplayer.sh

I added execute permissions:
# chmod +x mplayer.sh

I retried the test, and everything worked as it should.

Perhaps execute permissions should be added to mplayer.sh to prevent
this problem.

I'm having a problem with dynamic playlists and SugarCube - in that
Sugarcube is no longer appearing in the Dynamic playlist menu. It used
to be present but has now disappeared.

7.3.2 seemed to work OK though I had problems with MusicIp
7.4 nightly from early May - gone from the menu on the controller
7.3.3 from 16/05 - again gone from the controller menu.

If I use the WebUI I can see that the SugarCube playlist is 'ticked' -
but it never seems to appear on the controller menu. All the other
playlists seem to be displayed OK

I have slibmserver running on an XP box

through the Dynamic Playlist lets me listen in exactly the way I want.
 Leaving it switched off means that SqueezeCentre behaves as intended;

random tracks with (relatively) 'intelligent' selection, using SugarCube
through Dynamic Playlists does a pretty well perfect job. Best of both
 worlds!

 Thanks

I have also been using SugarCube via Dynamic Playlist to avoid
navigating my SB3 menu to the SugarCube enable/disable options, but I
think it would be nice if SugarCube could be turned on from any track in
the library. Currently when I press+hold the Play key on any track in my
Library or on a track after a Lazysearch result I get 3 choices (Browse
by selected, Custom Skip and MusicIP) It would be nice if SugarCube were
a 4th choice. This way I can select a seed genre/track of my choice via
Lazysearch instead of getting a random seed track via Dynamic
Playlist. This would also reinforce the new Restrict Mixing to Genre of
Seed Track option.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] IR-Blaster Volume Control

2009-05-18 Thread cwetton

Hi,

I have just setup IR-Blaster (latest version from the IR-Blaster wiki)
to work with my Cambridge Audio Azur 740a and my SB Classic. Once I had
'learned' the signals from the main remote everything works exactly as
expected apart from one thing. When I use the volume control from the
SC Remote it controls both the amp and the SB Classic. I want the SB
Classic volume to be fixed and the amp to control the volume. I have
tried setting the fixed volume for the player but it doesn't have any
impact on the volume settings of the SB Classic.

Version details below:

2009-05-18 Thread gharris999

Ha! Very clever! And very cool. I'll add a set of playlists for this
sort of thing to the next release. Thanks!

I'm a little surprised that that method doesn't run afoul of the
anti-CSRF protection stuff. If you try that url in a non-squeezecenter
browser session, does the anti-csrf warning get displayed?

I can see the utility of your suggestion: a bridge between playlists
and the CLI. I agree that that would open up another helpful avenue for
automating tasks. It would just take a semi-trivial enhancement to the
CLI plugin to enable this: a web page and some page handling perl
codethat or a new, relatively simple cliBridge plugin.

As to your suggestion that SrvrPowerCtrl webUI actions be drag-able to
the playlist...off hand, I'm not sure how to accomplish this. I'll tack
this onto the todo list for further investigation.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Odd bbc iplayer problem

2009-05-18 Thread gandt

Have a host of squeezeboxes which I serve from a windows home server
running the latest (auto updated) WHS build of squeezecentre 7.4. My
problem is that of late iplayer does not work on the Boom. Weird I know
and I wasted hours reinstalling mplayer and fiddling around at the SC
end before i realised that it worked fine on my SB2 and Duet. Can anyone
suggest a reason why is should not work on the Boom but work on the
others?

By the way no error messages - just a delay - and then an elapsed time
of 00:00 comes up but doesnt change. Same on all Live stations but
listen again works OK. Also using latest builds of iplayer and (if its
relevant) Alien BBC

The BBCiPlayer plugin does not use mplayer so doing anything with
mplayer would not affect BBCiPlayer plugin ability to play streams.

Stick with problem solving with BBCiPlayer only as AlienBBC uses
transcoding which has a different methods to get programs and to play
streams.

Can your boom play MP3 podcasts ?
Can your boom play other internet MP3 streams ?

I think there was an issue with AlienBBC with 7.4 but this is fixed in
AlienBBC 2.5. I don't know of any issue with BBCiPlayer plugin with 7.4

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC on Synology

2009-05-18 Thread rudolffischer

Hi everyone

I have seen quite a few posts about how to fix AlienBBC plugin issues,
but I have no clue about Linux, so I'm a bit lost.
I have installed the AlienBBC Plugin on my Synology DS408 using
Extension downloader. Then turned off Squeezecenter and turned it back
on. AlienBBC shows up under internet Radio and has a settings page. All
the submenus are there. RTSP is listed under filtypes and mplayer.sh is
listed as the decoder. So far so good.

When I play Virgin MP3 streams through AlienBBC everything works fine.

When I play BBC Realaudio streams, the stream plays / counts the
seconds, but I get no sound.

Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot and Regards
Rudi

/var/log/squeezecenter/server.log from the time of it not working? On
Windows, its somewhere in Documents and Settings\application
data\squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC on Synology

For AlienBBC to play RealAudio streams - you need a build of mplayer
that runs on your Synology.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

I'm a little surprised that that method doesn't run afoul of the

browser session, does the anti-csrf warning get displayed?
I don't use the CSRF protection stuff. I just confused SCRESTART with
RESTART and got my server to reboot (d'oh!!!), calling the URL from a
browser I didn't use for SC to this server for hours. Maybe that's a bit
too lax as a behavior; however, I don't mind living dangerously. (EDIT:
confirmed: I could reboot a second time, and the server couldn't have
seen a session this time :) )

I can see the utility of your suggestion: a bridge between playlists
and the CLI. I agree that that would open up another helpful avenue for
automating tasks. It would just take a semi-trivial enhancement to the
CLI plugin to enable this: a web page and some page handling perl
codethat or a new, relatively simple cliBridge plugin.
Right. Glad you like it. Thinking of it again, I believe there may be
issues with global vs. per player actions: if we have such centerlets
-as in droplets, servlets..- it would be a bore to have to parameterize
them before the drop.
Also I guess there are sequential vs. parallel (background) processing
issues: imagine you want to switch to SN and launch a DB rescan during
that time. You can drop two centerlets, but if processing is strictly
sequential as for a playlist, either you take off to SN and rescan when
your player is back, or you stay aground until rescan has ended... :(
Maybe the idea won't prove practical in the end?

As to your suggestion that SrvrPowerCtrl webUI actions be drag-able to
the playlist...off hand, I'm not sure how to accomplish this. I'll tack
this onto the todo list for further investigation.
Given how hard I struggle with playlists and the opml editor,
drag-and-drop capability (or the same controls as with a song: add,
insert next, play) would be a lifesaver for me.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-05-18 Thread bpa

No movement. I haven't had time to do work on plugins recently - just
basic work on AlienBBC.

I checked the logs and couldn't see anything helpful. The only way I
can see to debug the problem is to sign up for a 3 day Sirius Trial.
That means installing Sirius Plugin and ensuring 3 days of guaranteed
available debug time and I know that can't happen for a few weeks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR-Blaster Volume Control

2009-05-18 Thread epoch1970

Mhh. I won't be too affirmative, but I do the same as you, with volume
fixed at 100% in player preferences; I think the Classic shouldn't
display the volume bar when its output is fixed, it's just misleading.
I can do this with my system: i) lower the volume (on the amp, with the
SBC remote) and the SBC shows its volume bar going from 100 to, say, 90.
ii) wait a few seconds, iii) lower the volume again; at that moment the
SBC will pretend again going down from 100.

Thanks BPA, I'll pay for any membership or other costs during testing.
But just so you know, Pandora is also broken; and, that's broken in a
different kind of way. I've included debug information for that as
well. If it will help motivate you, I'll even contribute generously via
paypal torwards Softsqueeze development time. It would be worth it to
me.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and XM radio

2009-05-18 Thread wsmknicks

just went back live about 9PM Pacific for me.

I had emailed XM today about the poor stream quality and dropouts -
they claim they are working on upgrades to the system over the next 48
hours.

Not sure if that's a usual party line, I guess we'll see.
