I've never seen the fleece of the Mongolian Wooly Lizard, but I have a ball
of yarn that may well have come from it. It's a putrid green and it glows
in the dark, and it has a rather reptilian hand.

a little padded, which I like (I have a tendency to get heel spurs).

I know that about 4 years ago when I was in Austin I stopped in a very nice
store with wheels and looms and wool and mohair. I think I found it
through the phone book. I don't remember the name, but I hope it's still
there; it was fun.

. I like flicking when I'm working with multicolored locks,
because then I can make the yarn have the same spots of clear color that
attracted me to the rainbow-dyed fleece. Otherwise, combing is more
efficient and makes for a more even preparation.
Good luck and have fun spinning.

Hello everyone.
I will be signing off for a while :-( As I am leaving Binghamton for NYC
via Berkeley. I may be back from Berkeley. I will miss you all as I spin
my way across the country.

I heard a rumor that there is usually a bus arranged from NYC to
Maryland Sheep and Wool. Does anyone know anything about this? It
would keep me from having to rent a car and figure out either how to
drive out of the city or how to get my stuff to the rental if I rent
it outside.

I think Debbie New is an amazingly creative knitter. I took a workshop
with her on swirl knitting, which was excellent, and have seen a picture
of her portrait blanket, which was very cool. There's a photo of her in
her knitted boat in A Gathering of Lace (Meg Swanson, ed) and in the

With my guild I have taught a number of people how to spin at
Stitches West and other places. The hooked stick and wool is useful,
but we generally start them out with a simple spindle (either CD or
toy wheel) and well-prepared medium (not too fine or slippery) wool.
First I explain and
I've been happily spinning up some Finn fleece after about a month away

color, carded in my drum carder, then sorted the batts into half lighter
colors, half darker (mostly purply colors, some greens and pinker
colors) and am
I can't remember what color mine is, but it's Japanese and officially
a cone winder. This is nice because it moves the yarn rather than
the ball and thus doesn't have the projectile issues that the ball
winder does. I find I can fit a full bobbin from either my majacraft
suzie or my
The article was about Kathryn Alexander. She does energized yarns

She does entrelac but also stuff that ends up looking like wool chain

There are a couple brands out there. The one I've used and that's
most common is Regia, which has both stripe prints and stripes and
gray and white checklike things alternating. Available at many yarn
stores and through most of the mail-order yarn places in a wide range
of colors. Beware,

Another possible solution is to have one pair of single-focus glasses
for close work. My mom had bifocals and had a separate pair of
glasses she wore to play the piano, so she could read the music
without having to tilt her head all over. They were useful for the
computer too.

Barbara Clorite's list of tools etc. looks very thorough and I'd
second her recommendations. How many bobbins you want, however,
depends to some extent on the style of lacemaking you chose. I
happened to learn the little bit I know in Idrija, Slovenia (we were
in town for a week for a
There's not any particular reason to keep a computer warm or

people laugh.
