I am considering moving the list over to groups IO as I understand they seem to
have less problems of being bounced by various internet providers. Over the
years and especially lately we have lost a number of good members since their
providers will not allow messages from this domain to get to subscribers, and
as such they bounce and get removed by the server. I can’t even contact these
people privately since my email address is tied to this domain.

I have to bring my people up to date on groups IO next, the good thing it is a
lot easier to figure out than Mailman. It is almost 10 years since the last
move and with luck this will be the last. I do not know how much longer I will
keep running this beast, but believe it or not in October it will be 13 years.
Bob and I never figured on it lasting this long, There is obviously a need
which is the reason for keeping it.

What is really nice about the Amazon echo is that it is voice controlled.
You can merely say row 1 dice and it will tell you the result of the row.
Or you might say row 2 dice and she will tell you the result, Or you may
want to row 5 dice at once, just say row 5 dice and she will report the
result of the row. It also has several dice games which you can play. And
also a bunch of other games and a host of other things she can do. There is
practically endless with the things she is doing and all with voice
commands.

The problem is that the URL of your link is to long for the older program.
You can use the application button and go up to get the URL and you will be
able to follow the link. The best answer is to use a newer program that will
handle the longer links

Hi LeDon,
This can be accomplished in one of several ways,
depending on your keyboard.
The most common way when using a standard keyboard is using the
"Applications" key which is located
to the left of the right control key.
If this key is not available, then performing the shift + F10 keystroke will

open the menu.
And, when you have an item selected, performing a right mouse click will
also open the context menu.
Keep in mind that the content of the context menu will change according to
the item selected
and even depending on where it is located, IE, specific applications or the
internet.

This sounds like the ransom virus software that has been going around for
the past couple of years. The people who are running this evil software take
control of your computer operating system and will not release it until you
have paid a ransom. Often the thieves want you to pay in bitcoin. This is
very hard to overcome. This evil software has hit many industrial computers
including government offices, hospitals and banks. It is a shame that this
sort of thing continues. I think that the only way to defeat it once it is
on your computer is to completely reformat the disk and re load the
software. Backing up your, software and data, offline before the attack
may be the best and, maybe the only, defense. A shame.

Good luck and the computer's owner should report this to the better business

Miriam,
It's been a while since I've used Windows 7, but this should work for you
there as well as it does for Windows 10.
Open your Documents folder. If the folders and files are in reverse order,
reach up and press the f6 key. It should say Name.
If it does, press enter and your folders should be sorted properly again.
If when you press the f6 key, it says
Date
Press the left arrow key and it should say Name.
Press enter as above.
If you should want your folders, or files within a folder, sorted by date,
Press the f6 key and when it says Name right arrow to date And press enter.
The newest files will be on top of the list.
If you want the oldest on top,
Press the f6 key and when it says
Date
Press enter and the files will reverse their order.
If the problem is only within certain folders in your documents, or if you
want to configure certain files differently, then just open the folder you
want to rearrange and follow the steps above. I have my Documents folder
sorted by name, but many of the files within the individual folders I have
sorted by date. HTH.

I don't know if this will work for you or not as I have not tried it. One
thing that I thought of doing if I wanted to do that is to create a new

reading the, star, is one of them. But if it is and you created a scheme for
reading that page then all you would have to do is to change to your
personalized scheme and, Walla , you would have it. Just a thought, because

Re: [JAWS-Users] My wayward Books Folder

2018-02-10 Thread LeDon
Yes, but that way your folder wouldn't disappear. There must be some
interaction between jaws 2018 or windows 10 and your software that is
causing the folder to disappear. If that is true then your problem won't go

one can unzip and transfer several books at one time and it's somewhat
easier than unzipping the book with windows.

When you perform the transfer to your SD card, do you transfer the entire

Miriam,

When you perform the transfer to your SD card, do you transfer the entire
folder or just the files inside the folder? I'm wondering if the program
you're using to transfer the files is removing them once they are
transferred. If you're specifying the folder to transfer, it may be removing
it once it's been transferred. Just a thought.

Can you press cap lock twice quickly and hear either cap lock on or cap lock
off? If so, then it is working correctly. If this doesn't work for you call
FS. Because if that doesn't work for you after all of the people on this
list who have tried to help you with this, they can not help you solve your
proplem. That is Where FS should come in, call them!

Vicky, If you have the laptop keyboard configuration set up on your
computer, you should be able to tap quickly on the cap lock key and hear
either cap lock on, or cap lock off. When cap lock is on you will type in
all caps. With the cap lock off you will use the shift key to type an
uppercase letter. You probably already know that. But here's the thing, if
it is not working that way for you, then, it is time to call FS.

I was just looking for the key itself, which is the caps lock and how to
turn it off when I need to use the shift key.

For some reason, tapping it twice quickly has no effect. If I change the
JAWS key to another key, my caps lock key works fine, so I know it's not an
issue with the physical key on the keyboard.

I'm just wondering if there is something else I need to adjust to get it to
function correctly when tapping twice to use as a caps lock key.

You don't need to press the alt cap lock to turn it on or off. Just tap on

What a hell of a problem. If you went to your documents folder and then
pressed the ctrl spacebar to insure that no folder had the focus. And then
pressed the application key and arrowed up to, new and pressed enter. And
you pressed return on folder. Then if you typed the name of the folder and

shift H. that clears the speech history. Then I read the text to be copied.
Then go to speech history by pressing cap lock, spacebar, h. then copy the
speech history. It is cumbersome but it does work. I hope you get a better
solution to our problem.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Copying and pasting on the new job

Hey there everyone.

The new job is freaking amazing!

I say that, because I have yet to come across any “in accessible“ tool.

I am learning more about flexible web, to make my job a hell of a lot easier,
and eventually I’ll be substantially faster than any other agent on the floor.

But, we have a slight issue!

Good job consists of a lot of copying and pasting, while switching between
windows.

Which is OK, except yesterday we noticed that when I selected text in chrome,
and pressed control seat, that text was not copied to the clipboard.

The trainer sitting next to me said that she saw me highlight the text, but
when we posted in notepad, the last object prior to meet selecting the text
from the webpage and copying it was what was posted.

We are running the latest version of windows 10 (I think now I need to look).
And jars version 2018. (Again today I’m going to check for update).

Has anyone came crossed the control see keystroke not copying text, and if so,
how did you fix it?

IT is open to doing whatever I need them to do in order to make me successful,
it helps that there are people on my team that I work with seven years ago
while taking calls for sprint and the software was not even 25 percent as
accessible as the software as were using now. Oh, and the kind of might have
chatted our team lead up, and said once I’m set in my ways I’ll be as
productive if not more productive than any other team member. Also sidenote,
live person the chat client “live engage” (a product produced by the company
live person called live in gauge) is I would say 90 percent accessible on
chrome.

There are a few arrows that don’t have alternative text for them, and I’m
working my way through them.

And yesterday I couldn’t and a chat, but I think that was due to my lack of
jaws keystrokes in later versions.

Last night me and the help files became familiar with each other again..

The end chat button is found under VE Arrow next to your email address or
username if your organization doesn’t use email addresses for Simon.

It is possible to click the button, because somehow I accidentally ended a chat
yesterday, so when I figure that out I’ll write up a quick guide for anyone who
needs it.

Hope everyone’s having a great Friday.

Oh yeah, and I reminded myself about frames, and I’m excited to implement them
within the chat program. That’s going to save a lot of headache too.
Especially, since I think I read I can copy the text within a frame… Which is
information that I need for my Notes anyways…

With my best regards

Michael

Re: [JAWS-Users] clipboard and Google Chrome

2017-11-18 Thread LeDon
This method of copping text from a website doesn't work for me. Try this, go
to the Bard site pick out a book and then try to copy the description of the
book. It doesn't seem to copy, instead what you will have copied is the
number of books that are listed on the page or something like that. In any
event you will not have copied the description of the book you were trying
to copy. You cannot copy the description using ctrl shift right arrow to
select it one word at a time and then ctrl C to copy the selected text.
Neither can you place a marker at the title which is the first of the
description you want to copy and then placing an m at the end of the
description to complete the block to be copied and then pressing ctrl C to
copy it. Try it it doesn't work.

Steve,

This is useful information, but I believe you need to correct it in two
ways.

In step 2, here you're selecting, not copying, text. It's important because
you can do other things with selected text besides copying.

In step 4, I believe the "append to clipboard" command, a JAWS function, is
JAWS key+Windows key+c. As you know, control-v is MS's paste command.

Doesn't setting a temporary placemarker method work for you, Terry?

1. Go to the top (or bottom) of the text you want to copy, and set a temp
placemarker with windows-control-k.

2. Go to the end of the text you want to copy and press the dual-layer
keystroke insert-space then the letter M to copy between the placemarker and
the marked point where your virtual cursor is located.

3. Press Control-C to copy to the clipboard.

4. If you want to append additional stuff to the clipboard, do the same
thing as above, except instead of copying the marked selection to the
clipboard control-C, use control-V instead.

I think that you may be wrong saying that copying anything in Edge was
impossible. I haven't tried it but try this. Type jaws key spacebar, shift,
H to clear speech history. Then read what you wish to copy. Then press jaws
key, space bar, H to get your speech history. There it may be. Copy that and
you have it.

Perhaps this will be of interest to someone.

I was playing with Edge this morning, browsing recipes. I found one I
wanted to copy but it's not yet possible to do this either in JAWS or
Narrator. Rather than search for the recipe using IE or Chrome, I opted for
a work-around. I unloaded JAWS and pressed control a, for select all, then
pressed control c. I then opened Word and pressed control v. I then loaded
JAWS and there was the recipe, along with the rest of the web page. Smile.
I just told JAWS to find one of the words in the recipe title, and then
deleted everything above and below the recipe. It was cumbersome, but it
worked. The process was even easier when I tried the same thing using the
print button. I tabbed through until I got to cancel and there was the
recipe, stripped of everything else.

Granted, it's far easier at this point to use IE or Chrome, but if you get
annoyed or frustrated at not being able to do something technologically
that's available to others, there is sometimes a work-around.

Perhaps Microsoft will resolve this for us soon. Smile.

Hi Adrian,
I thought exactly in the same set of steps, which also are applicable to IE,
with the difference of the fact that the menu item reads Copy Shortcut instead
of Copy Location Link. In both browsers you can open the favorites manager
(with Organize Favorites option in IE that in English I think its keystroke is
CTRL+Y, or with the Show All Bookmarks option in Firefox which by default can
be activated by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+B independently of the language).
In any of the cases, find the menu item or button to add a new bookmark or
favorite. Of course, you will have to fill in or paste the link manually.

Hope it helps.

I use windows ten and office 10 and the spelling check is simple. When I
want word to check for spelling mistakes I go to the top of the document and
then I press F7 that will take me to the first misspelled word in the
document. Office will spell the word as you spelled it. Press the tab key
that will put you on a list of suggestions. Usually the first one is the
correct one if not use the arrow keys to go to the list when you find the
correct word press the tab key until you find change. Press the space bar
and the misspelled word will be replaced with the correct word. Continue
doing this until you reach the end of your document. Easy peasy.

Instead of F6 to go to the list of suggestions, press tab and use the up and

Alt-I for ignore once, alt-g for ignore all instances of this spelling.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Office 2010 spell-check and JAWS

Hello everyone.

So I'm now running Windows 10, JAWS 18 and . Office 2010. I would like to
upgrade to office 2016 sometime, but for now, this is just what I've got.
The thing is, I used to have office 2000 at home o my old XP machine. I
think I almost never used the spell-check. I had something against them,
generally. Whaddyamean I need the computer's help to spell? Well, I got over
it, mostly because of work. At this former workplace of mine, they got on
board with office 2016 pretty quickly, and I used the spell-check there with
success. You had to hit f6 to get over to the correct payne even though jAWS
would usually announce results before you did this, or else things would not
behave as they should, but generally it worked rather well. Now, I find that
when I hit "f7" in Word 2010, for instance, I get feedback from the
spell-check, but even though JAWS says "list box" and appears to be focused
on the list of suggested word replacements, arrowing up or down just reads
the line of my document with the error. F6 does absolutely nothing, so it
seems. The "change", "ignore", etc buttons seem to work as they should, but
. "change" isn't much good without being actually able to select a word
choice. I can hit escape to modify the document manually, which I'm sort of
ok with, actually, but this is still a bit inconvenient. What am I missing?
Is this just what I can expect from JAWS and Office 2010? I'm using "print
view" layout in Word, which is of course where I want to do most of my
spell-checking, if that makes any difference. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I am wondering, where would I find a list of the shortcut keys to do basic
commands in word? I want to center top to bottom a text and wonder how to do
that. I also am interested in setting the font, line spacing, bold, etc. All
just normal commands. I am not a power user so don't kneed many but where
are they?

I might have embraced virtual ribbons had I been new to Word but I had been
using Word and Outlook 2007 for several years before they appeared and not
having the ability to use shortcut keys my brain used automatically was the
reason I turned them off and have never been tempted to use them again. I
learned the ribbons from Jaws Help and extra training files early on and
being able to type control E and have text centered for example instead of
finding it in menus or even on the ribbons worked and was faster.
Production was a keyword in my employment so the shortest way to accomplish
something was a byword.

I can see using the virtual ribbons for newbies or for someone who does not
have to be concerned about time constraints. They were added for good
reason for many users. I am not saying they should never be used, but, I do
suggest one learn the ribbons and then decide which works best for their
needs. The help system (not installed on my current computer because I
can't figure out why Windows 10 won't allow me to get them off the CD) (have
not tried too hard) are extremely well written and narrated. Use them.
Then decide what options meet with your style of working. No one of us has
the right answer for you. Your style is unique, you made the decisions but
read about both at least is my humble opinion.

Guess where I got it from? One of your messages some years ago. But if you
posted it, it was right at the time, and probably what you say here explains

it. Regardless, Gerald and you posted excellent instructions on how to rid
yourself of the virtual ribbon once and for all.
Laura is seeing just how strong opinions can be on this list with Jim's new
posts. I think he's wrong to say the virtual ribbon makes life easier
because shortcuts and first-letter navigation don't work with it. Besides,
whenever possible, I would much rather use the options available to everyone

and be part of the whole wide world.

Adrian,

I was curious about that. However I launched Word and then tried the
keystroke. It said "collapsed" and then when pressed again, said "expanded".
In either case, the virtual ribbon did not appear. Since I have mine
disabled in the settings center, this might have an effect. Perhaps this
Ctrl+F1 keystroke is meaningful if the virtual ribbon is enabled?

2017-08-24 Thread LeDon
Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Learning MS ribbons - virtual or not ..

Hi, Jim.

The reason I don't try the JAWS virtual ribbon is the one I gave you before.
To quote that part of my post: This is one area, however, where I believe
JAWS users have both a practical and philosophical choice to make, and new
users need to know that this choice exists. I quickly became comfortable
with the MS ribbons, as others on this list have. If they were too
difficult, then I, too, would use the virtual ribbon. But since we have a
true choice here, the question becomes whether I choose a method everyone
else in the world uses or the one that only a few can.

I'll elaborate. I used to supervise a consumer protection mediation program
where all my staff was sighted. As many middle-age people find, college
students handle technology much more naturally than I did. If I had a
problem using MS Word or some other application, one or other of my student
interns would have an answer for me right away. If I'd been using the JAWS
virtual ribbon, they could have given me no help. Besides, there were times
when I knew how to solve a Word or other tech problem that no one else did,
which helped ensure that I kept interacting with my staff on an even playing
field. If I'd been using the JAWS virtual cursor, I would have been out of
that loop.

So what I mean by a "philosophical" choice is that I chose interaction with
the sighted world over the seemingly simpler JAWS virtual ribbon. As I wrote
before, I would have used the JAWS virtual ribbon if the MS ribbons had been
inaccessible, but they're extremely easy to use, thanks in large part to
shortcuts, the applications key and the key tips.

I hope this answers your question once and for all. I don't want to test our
moderators' patience over a non-technical JAWS question.

Hi, LeDon. If you use any Office application, such as Word or Outlook,
chances are you already use the Microsoft ribbons and that you use a number
of shortcuts. The thread is about the JAWS virtual cursor, which FS created
in an attempt to simplify how visually impaired computer users manage these
applications. I neither use nor advocate the use of the virtual ribbon. If
you're looking for information about that, listers who do use it will need
to respond to your query. Note that the JAWS virtual ribbon prevents you
from using shortcuts and first-letter navigation.

Another way of getting around the ribbons is to use the applications key,
between the right Windows and control keys on most keyboards. This is where
I go for the dialog that takes you through line-spacing, margins, etc.

But then there are the times when you must use the ribbon. Here, you may
find yourself remembering what are called key tips. For example, when I want
to place the page number at a certain point on a page (top left, top middle,
etc.), I press the following keys: alt+n together for "insert," and then n,
u in quick succession. I'm immediately in the right dialog.

When you explore the MS ribbons, listen carefully for these key tips. I find
they aren't always easy to hear, but usually I can make them out. The
example I just gave will be verbalized when you go through the "insert" part
of the ribbon.

I'm not pretending to give you an exhaustive explanation of the MS ribbons,
but I hope it might help you think about how to approach them. Shortcuts,
applications key, key tips, in that order of simplicity. When I first faced
the MS ribbons, I was intimidated. I shouldn't have been. Just learn what
you need as the need arises. And never hesitate to post questions here.

Hi, Ted. Welcome to JAWS!

To search within an open message, add the JAWS key to control-f. this
three-key combination comes in useful in many common applications even when
control-f also works.

To search through the messages in a folder, place focus at one of the
folder's messages and press shift-control-f. this is a Microsoft command. An
alternative is to press control-e, another MS command.

I am using windows ten the most current version of jaws on a 64 bit all in

The problem I am having is there a shortcut for moving from link to link
without having to use the arrow keys.
I know for headers I just push the letter H and I move from header to
header. So I assumed the letter L would do the same thing moving from link
to link. If someone can tell me what need to do for moving from link to
link it would be greatly appreciated.
The other minor issue is when I open an email using Outlook 2016 I used to

So basically I am wondering how to make emails and documents read a page at
a time.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, David.

I've just gone through the process up to the point of selecting Rome as a
destination. Let me see if I can recall the steps.

First, there is a line near the top of the page, as JAWS reads it, that asks
you to "continue" in English. Although JAWS doesn't say it's a link, it is.
I pressed enter.

On the next page, I went down to the link for "flights" and pressed enter.
ON the next page, I went down to "return" and made that selection.

Now I was presented with several options, one of them being an edit field
that shows the website recognized my location. That is, the field named New
York and the local airports. As I say, it's an edit field, so if I wanted, I
could enter another city or airport. Clearly, it's meant for my departure
and ultimate return location. I kept it at New York.

Right underneath that edit field is one that's unlabeled. I took a chance
and typed in Rome.

After waiting a moment, I refreshed the page with JAWS key+escape, and not
only Rome appeared, but also the relevant airports.

I stopped there.

I hope this helps you and your client get you over the initial hurdle.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Need To Re-enable Hyperlinks In Outlook E-mail

2017-07-04 Thread LeDon
I posted this comment earlier it didn't seemed to get picked up. So I am
posting it again. Here it is: I haven't been following this thread. So if
what I have to say doesn't apply, then please ignore it. I was having
trouble with hyperlinks in my email. I am using Outlook 2010. With some of
the hyperlinks that I would get in my email , email from AFB, for example,
when I would click on the link it would take me to a page that would say
something like, sorry that link was broken. Or something like that anyway.
But the thing is that that kept happening but not to all of the email links
that I would receive in my email. So I call Microsoft because one of the
emails that they sent me wouldn't work. After some investigating, the tech
found that the problem was that email links were too long and Outlook 2010
couldn't handle email links of that length. If I would get an Outlook
version that was not so old the email links would work. I found that If I
forwarded my emails to my outlook dot com account and open them in the Mail
app all worked . So I suppose that I will have to update my Outlook 2010 to
a newer release. So, like I said, this might not be what you have been
talking about. But if something like this is happening to others, this is
the answer. Get a later version of Outlook. Good fourth of July to all of
you.

Below is a link to a Microsoft support page that directly addresses Tom's

an answer to Tom's problem.

Tom,

Try one method for creating links and another for clicking on links, as
follows:

When adding a link to a message, be sure to press the return key right after
the link's last character. I believe Miriam made this suggestion yesterday,
and I've been doing it for a long time. Links are not shown as links without
the return character at the end.

When trying to open a link, right-arrow over the link's first character
before pressing enter. I've found that Outlook fluctuates between this extra
step being needed and not needed, though why it should be is beyond me.

Separately, I'd be interested to know if Fernando's suggestion works for
you. I hope you'll post the result.

Checking my notes, I'll give what I believe will enable HTML format. Note,
however, that although I went through these steps, I can't confirm they
worked. I already have HTML set for my messages, and JAWS/Outlook didn't
give me any kind of confirmation. Note also that these notes refer to
Outlook 2010. They may or may not apply in Outlook 2016.

In a new, reply or forwarding message, press alt-o, then t, then h.

If this doesn't work, Tom, please repost.

Hello, everyone.

For some reason, I have recently lost the ability to directly access links
in an e-mail, and have also lost the ability to create huyperlinks in
e-mails I send out.

Regarding the creation of hyperlinks in e-mails I send out, I used to be
able to do this by simply hitting the enter key at the end of the involved
link.

Does anyone know how I can enable the huyperlink function in Outlook e-mail?

I'm using Office 365, Outlook 2016, and Windows 7 here with Jaws 18.

Jarte uses the same classic menu structure as Wordpad, upon which it is
based. You just press the Alt key to launch the menus, just as you would
with any other program. To invoke the spell checker, just press F7.

Hi Andy,

I owe you a great and hardy "Thank you" for telling us about Jarte! It is
just what I always wanted, a nice easy word processor that is fully
compatible with JAWS. It was easy to download and install. Folks will find
it to have a very familiar feel, and it is easy to explore the menus and
find all the features, everything I want, a few nice extras, but not as much
of the wild stuff the Microsoft Word program has. It also has a nice
regular old menu system.

So for those who did not notice his post, please consider Jarte. I can
already tell that I will use it a lot, perhaps as my default word processor.
It is certainly the solution for those who have only WordPad.

A post-installation note. When you first launch the program for the purpose
of real work, watch for the following. When you first go to open your file
list, the old familiar control + o key, you need to set the file type. By
default, it is set to RTF only, meaning that when you tab to the file list,
you will see only the folders, and only those files that are in RTF format.

Instead, tab to the file type field, and Arrow down to the format you want
to see in the file list, or arrow down to the bottom, about 5 times, to the
all-format view. Whatever format option you choose, just press enter.
Then, just do the shift tab a couple of times and there is the list of all
folders, and depending upon your file type selection discussed above, your
list of files. If you do not do this step, you will see only the list of
folders, if any, and only RTF files, if any, in the folder. I assume there
is a way to set the default file type, but I have not learned that much yet,
and for beginners of Jarte, it is probably best to just check the file type
box each time, or you will be greatly confused wondering where your files
and folders are!

LeDon, I feel your pain. I have used IE all the time I have used a computer
as well, but now that here and there I'm finding websites that don't support
it, I am forced to put more than one browser in my repertoire.

If you use Google as a search engine, at the bottom of the page there is a
link that says "about." If you open that you get the Google page and it has
a link for products. Open that and then

You can find the link to download Chrome. Hopefully you have at least Win
7, or else it won't download. But I downloaded it myself and I'm no tech
genius.it seemed straightforward to me.

As far as learning keystrokes, a link someone sent that I went to actually
didn't help me much. It seemed to be talking to sighted computer users, as I
couldn't find the icon it said to find. But there has to be something out
there for us. I hope this helps a bit. Judy & Libby

2017-05-15 Thread LeDon
Tim. I am also an old computer user. By that I don't mean that I use an old
computer, although that is also true. But I mean, that I am an old blind
man who finds new things daunting. I only know how to use IE as my browser.
I do not do very many things with it except go to web sites and read what I
find there. I do keep a list of my favorites so I can go back to a website
quickly. Other than that, not much. So how does one learn the use of the
Chrome browser? I don't even know how to start a chrome browser on my
computer, if I had one there. Can you give me a little guidance? How did
you learn how to use the Chrome browser?

Okay, here is one old JAWS user's opinion.

I Am now using Chrome as my primary browser. Things load more reliably,
fewer lockups, more stable streaming video. It was a long time coming for
me to make the switch, but I just found more and more times ending up having
to use Chrome because IE and Firefox were mis-firing. Yes, Chrome does
operate differently and takes a bit of time to get used to, but for purposes
of reading what is on the web page, Chrome works the same with JAWS
navigation as is the case for IE or Firefox. In fact, my transition to
Chrome started by my having links in emails open in Chrome, since that
provided me with the web page all ready to read. From there over time I
learned the other basics such as saving favorites, and about a month ago
realized that Chrome had become my general use browser, so I made the final
switch and Chrome is now the default browser for all purposes.

I haven't used Chrome much, but I find using Firefox to be a lot like using
IE. Some commands and menu options are differently named, but it doesn't
take long to get used to. For example, the command to go to a URL is
CONTROL-L as opposed to CONTROL-O as is the case with IE.

[JAWS-Users] Mail App question

2017-04-26 Thread LeDon
Does anyone know how I can reverse the way email is listed in the Windows
Mail app? At this time, , it places the newest email on top of the list, I
would like to reverse that so that, the oldest email is on top and, the
latest email received, is on the bottom of the list. Your help is
appreciated.

Thank you. So then, what is the end result? Is it that when I go to that
website next time, I'm taken right to that place?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Weather Underground has changed

2017-03-11 Thread LeDon
If you are using research it you should know that it is not reliable. It is
a service provided by jaws but it is not supported. It will work when they
set it up but every time the website changes the way things are done on
their sight research it will no longer work. Since Jaws does not provide
anyone to support this between releases research it is not updated as
website change. It would seem to me that if they are not going to support
something they would not offer it because when it quits working they are
going to have a bunch of unhappy campers on their hands. Instead of relying
on research it is just as useful to go to the site yourself and fight with
the changes as they come about.

Or maybe people just don't want to learn new things because it's easier to
stick with the older stuff, no matter how unsafe it is.

Guys, this is the new standard, there must be instructions on how to handle
those particular elements on a webpage, you just have to find them.

Try Freedom Scientific's homepage to see if they have tutorials and learn
them, especially since more and more sites are trending to that format.

2017-02-14 Thread LeDon
I am sorry, I don't know anything about a onehanded keyboard. But there is a
program that may help this boy, if he is sighted, Now for some unknown
reason, I can't think of the name of the program now. But the software can
let the boy control his computer with his voice. It is a pretty good
program. It will control Jaws and most other things he wishes to do on the
computer. He can search for webpages, read the pages, fill in blanks and
most everything that he wants just using his voice and a microphone. I am
sorry that I can't remember the name of the software just now. But I am sure
that others will know and if you think that this will help just ask for the
name of the program and I am sure someone will tell you. I tried to use the
program and it worked really good. But as I can't see at all It was limited
for me. But if the user can make out the screen I think that it would be a
great boon to the user. Good luck in trying to help this boy.

possible to make a standard QWERTY keyboard swap, so that when after
invoking a keystroke the letters swap sides, so to speak. So that if you
are typing from the QWERTY side, then you invoke this keystroke, you're then
typing the letters from the other side of the keyboard. All help & input

Good morning Jaws users list.

Using word 2016 to open PDF documents. Many of you probably already know you
can open PDF documents with word 2016. However I do not usually use PDF
documents. But I found a bible training site called, bibletraining.org, for
more advanced bible lessons. These lectures are many hours long and come
with PDS documents with many pages of notes. To use word 2016 to open PDF
documents, do the following.

1. Highlight the PDF document.
2. Press the applications key.
3. Down arrow to open with sub menu, right arrow, press enter on word
2016.
4. You will hear, word can open this in an editable readable document,
press enter on the OK button.
5. In about 5 to 30 seconds depending on the size of the PDF document,
word will open the PDF document in a protected view word document.
6. What I did for the large 200 to 300 page files.
7. I pressed control+a, to select all, followed by control+escape to
refresh Jaws.
8. I then pressed control+c, to copy all the text, followed by
control+escape to refresh the page.
9. Then I opened a note pad document, pressed control+v to paste all
the content of the PDF document into note pad, of course you lose the
formatting.
10. But this method worked very well for me, I just wanted the text of
the PDF document.

If any of you are interested in this bible training site that works
fantastic with Jaws, read below.

You need to first set up an account with the site.

Go to:

Bibletraining.org

Many of these college level bible courses. Contain audio lectures from about
10 hours to about 26 hours.

And many have hundreds of pages of notes.

Happy bible studying! Smiles.

I'm not sure if it's by luck, or outlook 2016, or the jaws version I'm using
which is 17. Heck, I just don't know. In any event, those using outlook
2016, since that's the version I'm using, could someone (and you can use my
email here to test it if you'd like) evoke the keystroke insert shift r to
see if the reply directly to sender works for them?
I don't think this mailing list replies directly to the member when replying
like other lists but I do remember the above keystroke not working in the
past, and again, I'm not sure if it's jaws 17, or outlook 2016. If it is
outlook 2016, awesome as smile that keystroke never worked for me in
previous versions which got me in trouble quite a bit.
I bring this up as I was talking to a buddy about this and how I can reply
directly to a sender without opening up notepad, coppying, pasting etc. I
just went to five different emails on different mailing lists and insert
shift r indeed replied directly to sender, which rocks.

Respectfully,

Hi

When JAWS is running from the system tray, when you're using the desktop
keyboard layout, pressing JAWSkey+j will bring up the JAWS menus. But in the
laptop keyboard layout, where CapsLock is usually the JAWSkey, pressing
JAWSkey+j will move back to the prior word instead of bringing up the JAWS
menus. You can use insert+j to bring up the JAWS menus no matter which
keyboard layout you're using, even though pressing those 2 keys together can be
awkward on some computers. Also in the laptop keyboard layout pressing
control+shift+CapsLock+j will bring up the JAWS menus. When you change the run
JAWS from the system tray setting, JAWS must be restarted before it takes
effect.

Hello list,

So while typing away doing this and that on my business desktop, I must have
been too fast and sloppy because now, I seem to have enabled some sort of
touch mode for a tablet PC and Jaws. Naturally, the famous search for
command feature that was introduced in one of the recent Jaws updates isn’t
giving me any results no matter what I type. Poking around the Jaws help
files isnt’ giving me anything either. I have to imagine it’s a toggle
keystroke, but so far, I haven’t found it. The closeest I’ve come to is
insert+shift+semi-colin for the touch cursor which doesn’t’ get me out of
this mode.

I’m banging out this email on my personal laptop, but I need to be able to
work with my business machine. I thought I’d shoot an email to folks with
more experience with the touch interface of Jaws while I continue my search
for a solution.

Thanks,

Hi,
I Don't think you can save a suggested contact list, Because it's created
from contacts that wrote to you or you reply to or reply to all and you
wrote to.
It's always going to be growing of contacts that you really don't want
anyways.

I do know how to delete them:
Start a new mail, press any letter and move your up/down arrow and once you
find a contact, Press the delete key POOF and that contact is gone.

This method does not work on a main contact in your contact list.
