I think I caught this one too. I was working on a document with a few float figures exported from inkscape as pdf, LyX 2.3.0alpha1 crashed after updating (saving as pdf) one of the figures. Here's the license info I found: License, which incorporates LaTeX Public License: https://www.fontsquirrel.com/license/TeX-Gyre-Schola LaTeX Public License: https://latex-project.org/lppl/lppl-1-3c.txt Regarding the LPL, I've been unable to find a legal definition of "Derived Work" that I could understand, so I don't know if my book, which I will sell as a PDF file, is "derived" from TeX-Gyre-Schola, or whether it simply includes a copy of TeX-Gyre-Schola. Also, it doesn't include ALL of TeX-Gyre-Schola, so I don't know whether *that's* violating the license. Anyone know whom I could ask regarding these things? Your work is not "Derived Work" as you're not distributing TeX-Steve-Schola (Steve, as in Steve Litt) as a new font derived from TeX-Gyre-Schola. Your work if in PDF (that is, computer) format is, at most, a "Compiled Work". Thus 3. You may distribute a Compiled Work that has been generated from a complete, unmodified copy of the Work as distributed under Clause 2 above, as long as that Compiled Work is distributed in such a way that the recipients may install the Compiled Work on their system exactly as it would have been installed if they generated a Compiled Work directly from the Work. Notice, this is *may*, not *must*. That means you don't have to distribute your work as a PDF file, but if you choose to, your work compiled with TeX-Gyre-Schola should contain the exact copy of TeX-Gyre-Schola, not some modified private version with the same name. If you print the book, you're in no way distributing the font itself (font is a computer program, right?), just its version compiled for 600dpi printer. In that sense: "Activities other than distribution and/or modification of the Work are not covered by this license; they are outside its scope. If unsure, you can ask the authors of the font for their explicit statement.

1. The diamond/line separating the references from the remainder of the document spans both columns when I would expect it to span one. This seems to be true only for papers prepared for prl, not prb. 2. The "Electronic Addess" for the author appears in a footnote on the second (last?) page, not the first. I don't think this has anything to do with LyX, it's just how revtex class behaves. You can see many examples of it on arXiv. In addition to what Scott said: can you share the document that's causing you problems, I can test it on Fedora 23 in both LyX 2.1.4 and LyX 2.2.0dev for you. On 03/01/2016 04:18 AM, Alexander Stasinski wrote: (Apologies if this has already been discussed. I searched the archive and bug reports and did not find anything related. Perhaps I didn't search well enough.) I'm using LyX 2.1.4 on Fedora 22 (4.3.4-200.fc22.x86_64) with instant math preview on. After editing about a page of maths formulae, the instant preview will start displaying "random" previous formulae instead of the correct ones. When I go inside the formula, I can edit the correct one, so LyX has the correct one internally. The problem goes away if I close the document and reopen it, but after about another page or so of editing, the problem reoccurs. I'd be grateful for any advice on how to solve this. Best wishes, Alexander

Now they run into the page margin and out of the page. And here I would not know ho to fix that. You may try adding Juergen's special lines below \usepackage{ulem} in Provides ulem 1 AddToPreamble \usepackage{ulem} % Juergen's special lines: EndPreamble I am confident you have a clue for that as well!? Maybe your first proposition (change classicthesis-config.tex) is the better alternative? Best thing would be to ask the maintainer of ulem to fix the bug... but that might only come in a few years, knowing how fast things are changing in so-1980 LaTeX world.
ulem and amsmath
Hi Michael, It took me a while to isolate the problem: it's displayed math in Chapter03 that causes it. This turned out to be a bug in the package ulem: http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/125980/problem-with-amsmathfontspeculem http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/120024/pdflatex-hangs-with-no-errors In short, the way ulem defines MakeRobust makes amsmath enter an infinite loop. There are a few fixes, I'll give you two: - either call fixltx2e in classicthesis-config.tex before the call to amsmath (CUT & PASTE ABOVE) - or add te following to ClassicThesis.lyx (main document), Document Settings > Local Layout Provides ulem 1 AddToPreamble \usepackage{ulem} EndPreamble (don't forget to Validate before pressing Apply) to make sure ulem is loaded after amsmath. Let me know if this worked. LyX calls the two packages in the right order (intentionally or not). Unfortunately, the LyX port of the classic thesis template is a bit messy as the author of the latex template insisted on keeping many unnecessary calls in classicthesis-config.tex
Re: anybody using classicthesis-LyX-v4.1 out there ?
First issue Underlining text with 'underbar' in the master document (e.g. _Siti)_ enters an endless loop when trying to compile to PDF with the fatal effects described above. Funny enough it compiled (sometimes?) before in a child document but did not when included in the master. And: I can stop the destruction of files only if I cut the power off immediately after the loop started! I see what you mean, and I can reproduce it. I haven't observed any files being deleted though. It will take some time to check all this, please be patient. There are many packages included with classic thesis template and one has to go removing them one by one until everything works again. Second issue Using Jürgen's nice and useful new modules like csquotes (context-sensitive quotes) fail to work in classicthesis-LyX-v4.1, i. e. are not available in full in the Insert > Custom Insets menu and produce quite a number of errors I unfortunately cannot even test this as I don't see the module in my modules list. But again, clashes are possible, not all (versions of) packages work well with one another. Now there is hope these problems may have been already resolved in the a bug-fix version of the v4.1 template in the 4.2 bundle which you told me. I will download the 4.2 version and then see to it. I don't think the above issues were addressed in 4.2. I'd rather try to remove (or comment out) calls to packages in classicthesis-config.tex and see if that helps. You can have the command "top" running in a terminal window. Once pdflatex enters the loop (CPU usage 100%), just kill it with a 'k'

Re: Bibliography does not print when using biblatex instead of bibtex
Hi Michael, There's a lot going on in your example, but what's causing problems (if everything else worked before) might be just that you haven't set the path to your .bib file in the right way. Path names in Linux are case sensitive (yours begins with /Home, which is almost always /home), and there's probably user name missing (you have /Home/Documents, should probably be /home/michael/Documents). So please first check this. Use pwd terminal command in the directory where your .bib file is, or check the path in the file browser (might only show when you press CTRL-L) If your .lyx and .bib files are in the same directory, I'd suggest using this code in your preamble (just replace name_of_your_bib_file.bib) \newcommand\mybibfile{name_of_your_bib_file.bib} \ifcsname input@path\endcsname\else\def\input@path{{./}}\fi \def\@@setabsolutebibname#1#2{\edef\@@absolutebibname{#1#2}} \expandafter\@@setabsolutebibname\input@path{\mybibfile} \addbibresource{\@@absolutebibname} instead of \addbibresource{/Home/Documents/Arbeiten Mike/Hausarbeiten/MaHomex_Mike.bib} This will make your project portable. Use "pwd" terminal command in the directory where your .bib file is, or check the path in the file browser (might only show when you press CTRL-L) If your .lyx and .bib files are in the same directory, I'd suggest using this code in your preamble (just replace name_of_your_bib_file.bib) \newcommand\mybibfile{name_of_your_bib_file.bib} \ifcsname input@path\endcsname\else\def\input@path{{./}}\fi \def\@@setabsolutebibname#1#2{\edef\@@absolutebibname{#1#2}} \expandafter\@@setabsolutebibname\input@path{\mybibfile} \addbibresource{\@@absolutebibname} instead of \addbibresource{/Home/Documents/Arbeiten Mike/Hausarbeiten/MaHomex_Mike.bib} This will make your project portable. So, one may conclude the problem with my attached sample file (bibliography not printed) is NOT caused by shortcomings of LyX and KBibtex but may have to do with my settings. See attached files. I left the basic structure intact as it might be significant towards the problem and you can see all my settings . The paper is using most of special elements needed and typical in linguistics. Hence, you probably have to install other package(s), e.g. covington.sty Thanks and regards, Michael

One of the possible reasons: machines never mistake, so when you browse for your .bib file through the dialogs, LyX gets the right path (or no path at all, if .lyx and .bib are in the same directory)

Remember, we are only tricking LyX into thinking that it should provide us with the citation dialog. Use this instead of \printbibliography \nocite{*} \printbibliography[heading=bibintoc]

Re: problems after including a pdf figure
Tell us how to reproduce the problem. Start with the document class you're using. Show us the preamble of the document with and without the pdf figure (Export-podflatex could help). Try to make a minimal (non)working example.

Re: Thesis formatting
Remember that the commands in LaTeX are just macros, they collect any text and expand it where needed. What you need is a command in the preamble of your LyX document of this kind: \degree{Master of Science\\ \vspace{\baselineskip} in\\ \vspace{\baselineskip} Nuclear Engineering} As I said, commands containing a @ have only been made for internal class use, they are not in user space.

Re: Thesis formatting
It's hard to guess what you're supposed to have without knowing anything about your latex class. What's obvious from the excerpt you've given is that \@degree is meant to be an internal command of the class (because of the @). There must be some part of the class file that fills the \@degree command with user's data. Where can we find the class file?

Use Insert Formatting Vertical space instead of just adding empty lines. Then, VFill is a stretchable vertical space that could help you keep the things on one page.

Your thesis-ku.lyx (master document) begins with \lyxformat 413 \begin_document \begin_header \textclass kuthesiss Obviously LyX doesn't know anything about the path to your kuthesis.layout file, which is in ./stylefiles. It will only look for it in the root folder, where thesis-ku.lyx is. Putting kuthesis.layout there solves the problem, at least for me (Linux).
