Most photographers who own DSLRs don't need 24mp. Hell, most don't need

Sony has one of the most critically acclaimed mirrorless systems, but
it's lost in the sea of red ink. More importantly they supply the
imaging chips for Pentax, in fact the supply the imaging chips to pretty
much everyone except Canon in the APS-C class.

Possibly, but I doubt Samsung has been sitting on its hands wrt sensor
design. It will be interesting to read the first in-depth

No - proprietary mount. A non-autofocus K mount adapter is available
from Samsung and some third parties also supply them.

There is more to a camera than it's sensor, but I think it is
interesting that the only sensors that are rated *higher* than the K-5
(and the 645D which it ties in score) are the Nikon D3X, D4, D800 and
some Phase One backs.
