I think it was back in November that on impulse I ordered one of the new Heipi
travel tripods off of kickstarter, it was supposed to show up in January. It
showed up last week.

A few months earlier I had bought a Lefoto LX-255CT
I ended up buying an “open box” Leofoto LX255CT for my “travel tripod”. It
arrived yesterday, here is a photo of it next to my regular tripod:

I was checking the rankings of tripods on https://thecentercolumn.com/ and a

Excellent, thank you, I’ve been wanting to find something like that for ages.

I did exactly the opposite. I
hooked to the PD (capture) system after that the tripod had to come next,
just in case I need a tripod (which I hate to use and even more hate to
carry around).
You can swap the head and mount any tripod head, if that's the case a
travel tripod from sirui or manfrotto makes more sense and probably

OK,
Carbon is less weight. The rest is identical its both so light weight the
bag hook is really needed in windy conditions. I have the carbon version
and to my surprise the center column is solid metal, its so small carbon
wouldnt work

I changed from a tripod with a twist lock to one with a flip lock. It may
be worse with dirt, but is so more convenient to quickly set up.
And it won't slide down when fixed, as happened so often with twist lock..

I have a Feisol Traveller that I am quite fine with.
They aren't cheap. The newer ones have put anti twist stuff into the leg
sections which cures my only complaint with them.

If I use a tripod its PD. You probably need some additional pd plates. L
brackets etc. Dont fit without removing the protection pins on the head.
They also have pd plates which fit on both arca and manfrotto.
And pd has real lifetime warranty! I was very impressed when a zipper
failed on a bag and

Buy any old tripod you want. Because you know then that the missing
one will reappear. :-)
Seriously, I have a Manfrotto Befree carbon fibre with the 494 head
that I bought a couple of years ago. It is compact, lightweight but
surprisingly sturdy. That said, I have mixed feelings about it.
Peak Design is an option. For a tripod it's very light, compact and sturdy.
It's head is an annoyance if you don't have PD plates on all your gear.
Some generic arca plates (the square ones) also fit without trouble. If you
remove the protection stops all arca plates fit.

While there are a lot of things that I love about my tripod, it is a bit large
to conveniently carry. Unfortunately my old benro travelflat tripod has
disappeared. Since I haven’t been able to find it for a couple of years the
only solution is to buy a new tripod for hiking etc. What are

replaced it with the Peak
Design Travel Tripod and am pleased with that. It’s only barely larger and
heavier, can handle a lot more weight stably, but costs quite a bit more. )
I can recommend a backup system that I know is reliable … I’ve been using it

Hi Francis,
I have a Benbo Trekker. It is light, adaptable, waterproof up
to the first joint (one joint/two part legs) and goes up to
about 1.8m/5'10.
You do need a PhD in Civil Engineering to erect it, though.

Hi guys,
I don't know if this have been covered before but here
goes:
I'd like your opinion on the Velbon Chaser EFL-4A
travel tripod featured in last month's Pop Photo. Any
good reviews/bad reviews on this tripod?
Another question: Is it possible to use the PH-243
compact ballhead
Any other travel tripod you could suggest? Price is a
major factor (~$100-120).
I love my Slik 444-Sport. It only weighs 4 pounds and folds to 19
inches. I don't think it would take a ballhead, but it has been great
for my purposes, and it's taken a lot of abuse from me in the past year.

Pop Photo reviewed these recently. The Velbon Chaser EFL-4 at $79.95
matches what I'd like to pay. It's shortest length is about 17 inches
(43 cm.). Can anyone recommend one with a shorter folded length in the
same price range?
I'm less concerned about maximum extended height since I spend more

I have been looking at the Chaser EFL-4 as well as the
velbon MAXi 343E. Also a very compact travel tripod.
Another one is the Bogen Digitripod 719B. I have no
experience with any of these but they are in my list
of travel tripods to check
