Re: OT Mac OS Sierra - break anything photographic?
Hmm. Your experience is nothing like mine. What system are you using? For me (and I only use Apple equipment so I have no idea how Android or other touch devices respond), the iPad Pro in particular is every bit as responsive as any mouse and/or trackpad desktop computer. As a matter of fact, it's actually more responsive in many situations with better finger/touch/pointing accuracy, etc. It's so good in fact that when I'm working on one of the MacBook laptops I often touch the screen to affect something and wonder why it didn't respond until I realize that I'm on a different machine/OS, etc. I touch an icon and instantly the app is running and waiting for my input, or showing me what I wanted to see. If I'm using the soft keyboard, I can type 50 wpm on it ... the keyboard gives a better tactile feel and gives me more screen real estate to work with. BTW, the keyboard cover adds an eighth of an inch to the overall thickness of the iPad Pro when closed and about four ounces, that's it; the machine remains just as portable. If you are experiencing that kind of poor responsiveness with an Apple iPad, let me know what model/configuration/iOS version you're using. Also, if you're on a model with limited storage and limited free space, be sure you don't have a lot of background-active apps and services running, slowing things down. I'm not "feature driven" either; I hardly use any of that stuff either (although I do use the macOS Messages app quite a bit). Most of the work in Sierra is actually OS infrastructure that makes it perform better on the same hardware I was running El Capitan on, from what I see and what my use of it shows. That's what makes it worth more to me. Plus the continuing, improvements in coordination of macOS with my phone and tablet usage. (An iPad Pro is now pretty much my 'standard computer' other than for photographic and publishing work.) G > On Oct 18, 2016, at 8:46 AM, Bruce Walkerwrote: > > Thanks for that info, Dave. Thanks for that info, Dave. I was afraid of something like the Java installer becoming a problem. I've been teetering on the brink of getting CC for a year now, but I may continue holding out for a while more. Sierra is the very first Mac OS X version that completely disinterests me, and if I simply avoid upgrading to it then I can also avoid CC for a while longer. Sierra features: I don't need or want Siri. I already talk to my pets too much and I'm not about to start talking to my computer as well. Besides, I really dislike input devices that include a huge amount of randomness like touch screens and voice recognition. Keyboards and mice positively do what you direct them to do. Re: OT Mac OS Sierra - break anything photographic?
I haven’t had any problems with PhotoShop CS6 or Bridge on Sierra 10.12 and my late 2015 iMac 27 5K. However, Apple’s own Mail software has been problematic. Others have reported this as well. When first started under Sierra, it works fine but when clicking back to Mail list after running other software it freezes and I have to quit Mail and restar itt. I should point out that I run three different mailboxes, including comcast.com, through Apple Mail, so that may be part of the problem. The computer also crashes and restarts at times when In sleep mode. Everything else seems to be okay. My system is somewhat extreme with 6 external hard drives currently running and a second 27-inch monitor. I should have waited to upgrade, but I always get a kick out of exploring new tech. The addition of Siri is somewhat useful, although you have to click her open, so if you’re asking her to start an app, you might as well just start the app yourself. I do ask her to read my schedule. That’s useful. Hoping the first upgrade fixes the Mail and Sleep problems. Re: OT Mac OS Sierra - break anything photographic?
I can't speak to LR4.4, that's too old: I haven't run anything less than 5.x or 6.x for over a year, certainly never on anything older than macOS 10.11 El Capitan. I've been running Sierra through various alpha/beta iterations with PSCS5.1 and LR6.x for the past 9 months. The only problems I've noted (with both) are some issues with color managed printing profiles, but with LR6.4-6.6 this happened even on macOS 10.11 El Capitan. LR6.7 seems to have addressed these now, but I haven't done extensive testing yet. Otherwise, all of the apps I use in my image processing workflow (Lightroom, Flare, occasionally Photoshop) along with some of the display/word processing/etc apps I use have either worked flawlessly or have been updated for Sierra already. I have an existing installation of the last ever version of Aperture on one of my systems and it's still working well with Sierra. I understand that Capture One prior to version 9.3 has had some issues that have now been taken care of, but it's been a while since I tested C1.
