There has been talk of adding the ability for SC to identify and resample tracks that have a higher sample rate than the device is capable of playing. I did have a quick look but couldn't see an enhancement request files in Bugzilla. -- funkstar

There are very good reasons for sending the lossless compressed audio to the player. Firstly you increase your buffer by 40-60%, secondly at the same time you are decreasing your bandwidth requirments by 40-60%. Making it far less likely you will run into buffer problems compaired to pure PCM,

OK, turns out the default skin does not use the index function (which should do just this) but a button emulation. Will change over to that behavior in the next iPeng version. I consider this a bug of SC but as long as the workaround works I'm fine with it. But please be patient until July
