If you're using the methoxide process, do not use equipment that is not
intrinsically safe for use in potentially explosive atmosheres.
washing machine motors have carbon brushes on a commutator which are very
efficient spark
Does anyone know how much methanol is recoverable in total, assuming
that 25% meth is used (by vol of wvo). It would also be interesting
to find descriptions of methods of extraction from both the glycerine
and the wash water.
Thanks in anticipation

As an Environmental Engineer, I can«t turn my head on some of the previously
discussed issues, but I must agree with Keith. As backyarders, maybe
industrial-level safety should merely be reduced to good ventilation and
other low-budget precautions. You usually can«t get explosion-proof devices

Explosion proofing.
I avoid all these safety problems by running on SVO
but thought this might help those folks making BioDsl.
The best explosion proofing is to have no open sparks.
No ignition-no explosion. Hermetically sealed electric
motors are usually expensive ,save for one
Hi -
It is not magic, it is at least and probably more natural than biodiesel

and it is made by a reputable, long-established company that also makes

Dear Edward,
In general, my personal attraction to biofuel is the independance it gives
those who have the will and resources to make it, as compared to its
potential as a widespread (global) replacement for gasoline or diesel, which
I personally believe is limited.

Just read the post by Keith Addison about the particles emitted by

But Land Rover calls it a trap oxidizer. Does
Never mind - I just checked my workshop manual, and they call it a catalytic

Hi Anton
An acquaintance did a test and got about %4 back from a batch using %16
methanol. I assume then that the bd reaction only uses 10-12 percent.
Other sources confirm that - but, unless you have a very well
controlled set-up, as in a lab, you need to use the extra to get your
reaction
