With the passing of the national currencies and their
replacement by the Euro, it made me wonder as to how many of the names for the
national currencies are derived from ancient units of measure.
Names like Drachma, Lira, Peseta (Peso), Mark, Markka,

There are many websites explaining the advantages of
different number system like
base-8 (octal using digits from 0-7)
base-12 (duodecimal using digits from 0-9,A,B,10)
base-16 (hexadecimal using digits from 0-9,A-F).
The proponents claim that the entire World should
switch over to their system.

It does. I'm not saying the ångstrom is equal
to the nanometre, but that the nanometre should be used instead of the
ångstrom. Thus, 5000 Å should be changed to 500 nm.

I think this is a plot by anti-metric luddites to rid the world of SI.
The only way they can is to replace the number base from 10 to something
else. Let them live in their fantasy world.
