On p.260 of his dissertation Alex Dean has reproduced two passages from
Matteis's False consonances.
In his transcription of the excerpt at the top of the page Dean
proposes that the open 1st and 5th courses should be included in
all the chords in the 2nd and 3rd bars.
(in the first full bar) with dots, but the
second time (bar 5) there are no dots!

Yes it is interesting. But it's surely
with overwound strings for the bourdons and it

The Lute Society in England was given a Mexican 5-course instrument which
was supposed to pass as a baroque guitar. I borrowed it for a while and
thought it was awful - very heavy in constuction. It was strung with nylgut
which I had never used before and hated but I am not sure whether gut

I have been puzzling over the Stradivarius stringing instructions for
the chitarra ttiorbata again.
I have two queries.
Why should he compare the strings of the third, fourth and fifth
courses to violin strings rather than those on the (presumably)
standard 5-course guitar.
I wonder if any of our Italian speaking members is willing to translate

Just as a matter of general interest. Rafael Andia has written a novel about
Corbetta - the title is Guitarre royalle - roman. it is in French and
published by Harmattan. Haven't read it yet.
