I just build the 4.3.99.7 snapshot this afternoon, and did not notice and
problems with the building process. X started normally and for a while
usage seemed normal.
But when I started up AMSN and tried to send someone a message, I
simply couldnt get any text to enter into the inpt box. I
there is a work around for root window file managers like nautilus or
KDE in xsnow and xpenguins. you might also want to check the nautilus
source or gnome source for the root window code, or ask on one of the
gnome lists.

Finally solved! Thanks to Hy0 post on this newsgroup I used his patch (found in
previous article on this mailing list) against a 4.3.99.6 snapshot I had already
downloaded (this patch is intended for 4.3.99.5 but worked flawlessly with my
4.3.99.6, don't know whoat about with current 4.3.99.7).
I have a problem with the DMC-touch screen driver. Almost everything is
working fine except clicking a button. I think the reason is that XFree86
doesnt get a ButtonRelease event after releasing the button (touch screen).
I conclude this from the events that occur.

Security on your system is too high to run the X-Window system.
Root isn't able to open /dev/mem, etc... I don't know much about
the BSDs so I don't know the exact fix, but this is a common problem

I installed RH8 on a box using a VIA EPIA-M Mini-ITX Mainboard. When I
booted the system I got an error message to the effect that the board
was newer than the version of XFree86 in the Red Hat 8.0 distribution.
Next I went to the XFree86.org site got the newest version (4.3.0),
installed
The nv driver that you are using doesn't support hardware
accelerated OpenGL (you have to use NVIDIA's binary drivers for
that), but it should work fine with software GLX support
that comes with XFree86. We'd need to see the /var/log/XFree86.0.log
to determine why that isn't working.
You'll want to edit the script files that run when you start x. Generally
the last command to run is your window manager of choice.
