Dave, I've never been turned away from the "truck lanes" at any truck stop. I have found that the truck nozzles just barely fit into the baffle plate in my fill pipe. The tip of the nozzle has an upset ring about 1/4" from the end that stops the nozzle from entering any further than said 1/4 inch. Kind of a PITA to stand there holding that nozzle and big hose, and easier to wash the trousers with fuel oil if you get inattentive for a moment. I like to head for Flying J truck stops when available since most have "RV" lanes with sufficient clearance, pumps on both sides of the aisle, and also dump and fresh water fill facilities all together. I've heard they have a membership card that's good for another penny off their usually lowest prices as well. Check out their website for locations and current prices. Matt "David W. That was a little more than 25 years ago. The '65 GT had all its original documentation, including the previous owner's WBCCI membership packet, although the numbers had never been installed. I never joined, but only because i was in ramble-mode, and not all that interested in joining anything. I haven't been to one, yet, so i can't report on what they're like... they might be a real 'hoot'. but - the unit's newsletter reads like a med student's notes from 'grand rounds'. i fully recognize that there is always a certain amount of 'drift' in a local unit of any type of group, and the prevailing interests of any group are pretty much self-selected and maintained. that's just the way these things seem to work out... my last correspondence with bill scott had to do with shifting my membership to the WDCUnit - but i can't seem to find those emails... anyone have the information for that? and, BTW, i never did get any kind of 'renewal notice' from the WBCCI... what's up with that? tuna ------------------------------ Message Number: 9 Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 22:44:26 -0700 From: "Brad Norgaard" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Airstream sighting I-75, southbound from detroit Hi Tuna, The number 6310, according to my WBCCI book, is Robert Wilson from Ontario, Canada. If it was leaking through the skin, then you definitely have something that needs to be fixed. We are in the process of deciding which model airstream to buy, the list right now is 66-69 caravels or 60's globetrotter, or the like. We would like to be "summer full timers", our concern is that once loaded with our stuff, our present car (a mid size Olds wagon) will not be a realistic tow vehicle, especially through the rockies etc... Are load levelers necessary? So what are people using to tow these older models which the ads show being towed by a bicycle??? I am certainly not in that kind of shape! Thanks for your input. Kimberly ------------------------------ Message Number: 20 Date: Thu, 11 Oct 2001 10:04:49 -0700 From: "Carol and Oliver Filippi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Curtains Lisa, The curtains have a SINGLE pleat at the top AND bottom. There is no pinch and tacking in the middle of the pleat. The effect is a "T" cross section if you were looking down from the top. The top of the T would be the span (width) of the drape and the stem of the T would be the double thick fabric of the pleat. the vertical stitching to make the pleat would be at the intersection of the stem of the T and the top. The depth of the pleat is approximately one inch. The whole idea is to give the look of a pleated drapery without the bulk of an old fashioned (traditional) pinch pleat which used a panel approximately double the spanned width of the finished drape. Your best bet would be to get hold of an old drape. Also, you will probably have to replace the elastic which is used to attach the slide to the drape at both the top and the bottom. James Ambruso does a really fine job making replacement drapes and includes a Millium like(aluminum insulated, sun resistant) lining and new hardware and elastic. In my opinion, you should seriously consider buying the finished product. My wife has made many drapes for our home, and uses an industrial sewing machine. For our Airstream drapes, we are going to have Mr. Ambruso do the work, and use the time for some other activities. Good luck in whatever route you decide to take. To order the correct part to mount the = replacement=20 toilet, I need to know if the toilet flange (metal part above the floor) = is=20 screwed into the holding tank or if it's just a slip fit inside the top = of the=20 black water tank. Hopefully somebody will know how the flange and = tank are=20 connected. We are trying to be ready in time for the Top of Georgia = vintage=20 rally in a couple of weeks and it would be real convenient to have = bathroom=20 facilities. ;-)</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Many thanks, </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Jim Greene</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2></FONT> </DIV></BODY></HTML> ------=_NextPart_000_0037_01C15274.68B28B20-- ------------------------------ Message Number: 24 Date: Thu, 11 Oct 2001 17:00:43 -0400 From: "James Greene" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Outer skin for '67 models Brad, try www.metalsupermarkets.com. They have outlets all over the place. Another source is www.airpartsinc.com/alumsheet.htm. They have aluminum in rolls of any length which should simplify shipping if they are not local. Eventually, I will be replacing the belly skin on my Tradewind. I used to also, it results in your message having a whole lot of nonsense right after your message. I figured out to stop this, just go to" tools" at the top of your email program, then go to "options" then "send" then change from HTML to "plaintext". I have Outlook Express, so other email programs might be a bit different. I hope this helps someone else out, I love reading the VAC list but all that HTML can be very frustrating when you have to scroll down through it to get to the English part to read about Airstreams !
