i've had a 7100 with this problem and one that didn't have this problem (and i checked the
rom simm version numbers to verify they were different). i do have a stack of rom simms
but i haven't sorted them yet. if you are interested in swapping your rom simm i'll sort
them this weekend, it would be cheap. otherwise just use os 9+ and os 8.1.
This looks like a potentially useful tip. Thanks Philip. I was away this weekend and have not yet had a chance to open the case and see what the serial number(s) on the ROM module is/are. I will do that this evening and then get back to you.
