I'm of two minds about this topic. First, I believe that since Ralf is a member of this community he has every right to communicate with it as best he's able. Ralf has stated that he has some problems with his English, but I think that in general he expresses himself clearly enough. He has valuable experience dating from roughly the same time as myself (i.e. the MIDI revolution of the 1980s), he's enthusiastic, and he doesn't give up easily. These qualities are admirable in any of us.
Now, my second mind: Like Ralf, I work with 64 Studio (2.1 and 3.0 beta) in a heavily customized environment. I've replaced the window manager, I use closed-source nVidia drivers, I compile main audio applications myself (so I need a complete toolchain for such work), I replaced the old version of JACK, and so forth. However, unlike Ralf I do not typically write to this list regarding problems I have with my systems. As Kevin wrote, my problems are usually due to my customizations, and I do *not* expect support from the maintainers for a situation clearly "other" than the circumstances for which the distribution was originally designed. Daniel and Free have done a superb job of creating possibly the most stable audio-centric Linux distribution (props to Planet CCRMA here too). I usually test a new release of the distro in an unmodified environment for a while, then I start busting it up to make it mine. Having done so to my satisfaction I believe that I would be confusing and possibly angering the designers and maintainers if I complain about the distro I've just re-made. Ergo, Google is my main friend until or unless I simply can't solve the problem without contacting Daniel or Free. Finally, a word about mail filters. If someone truly doesn't want to read and/or be bothered by a member's posts, just create a mail filter. I've done so for a few names, it works a charm. No messy mailbox, what I don't want goes straight to the Junk box (currently populated with notices from my high-school class reunion organizers). Best, dp _______________________________________________ 64studio-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.64studio.com/mailman/listinfo/64studio-users
