I am contemplating adding to that IF this computer is allowed to live.

Some were uninstalled the right way and some had to be deleted
because they weren't in "add/remove programs".

Nope. It means I removed all the programs I had added after we got
this computer.

The drive started to clatter and chatter and I assumed it was dying.

Yes, C drive is the boot drive. That is where the programs were and
I can access F drive to get me data.

I meant C drive was working for us, F was just a storage spot for old
data and pictures.

It boots up, runs fine when offline and then if you go online it can
take as long as 3 minutes between pages.

This computer is impossibly slow when online.

Because every once in a while the computer didn't recognize the
modem. When I reinstalled it, we were fine again.

Yep, 3 minutes to change pages.

Does anyone know what that file is?

I will have to do that tomorrow-it is getting late for me.
