Jim you do it your way OK, but you suggested it first in this discussion to someone who just thought he could possible have a virus.
Yes people back up very sensibly because they may though some mischance lose the lot but to use a reload because you may harbor a virus. It is those OTHER things that I clone my C partition, including because 'I CAN'.
