What I posted last was the only way I could find to change Office's
appearance.
Are you sure you tried this?

   1. In Windows Control Panel, click *Appearance and Themes*, and then
      click *Change the computer's theme*.
   2. In the *Display Properties* dialog box, click the *Appearance* tab.
   3. To use the new look in your Office programs, use the *Windows XP
style*. In the *Windows and Buttons* list, click *Windows XP
style*. To change the colors, click the item you want in the
*Color scheme* list, such as *Silver*.

Anyway, that's the best I can suggest.
Good luck,
Donk
