I really don't know much about Outlook - especially the older versions - but is it possible your addresses are stored in a .pst file? I kinda recall that at some point Outlook switched from a 'personal address book' to a 'contacts' list. Maybe the PAB is just a pointer to your contacts list, which is stored in a .pst file. Try copying your old .pst files into the new Outlook folders and see what happens.
