Hi,First of all I congratulate you for taking an initiative to develop a Marathi font for VI users. There are following differences in Hindi and Marathi font:
There is no nukta in Marathi letters There is no dot above the ardhachandra in Marathi Please see the attached Marathi alphabet. There may be any more differences which I didn't understand. AI friends may throw light on it.
Thank you very much. -------------------------------------------------- From: "Him Prasad Gautam" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 09, 2015 2:37 PMTo: "AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerningthe disabled." <[email protected]>
Subject: Re: [AI] Tamil Unicode Typewriter Keyboard Layout
hi, yes I know that a dot sign beneath a letter is used in Marathi. It is called Nukta in Hindi. you can type the dot sign separately after typing the particular consonant letter.Instead, you can also type the letter with the dot sign joined monolithically.Mind that Hindi does not use all Devanagari letters. It may be a different matter that the key layout which you used before Google Input may not have mentioned the special letters. Can you brief other symbols that are used in Marathi other than the nukta? I have to work for Marathi. I have done for other Indian Languages. In both Marathi and Hindi language, the Devanagari letters are used. Hence there is no different in letters. Only the name is different. Either you use Hindi or Marathi or Konkani or Nepali key layout; you will type the same letters. In Hindi keylayout also, you can use Marathi fonts. Basically there is no Marathi or Hindi or nepali Fonts. All they are Devanagari fonts. Sorry again, you are in wrong assumption. No difference in alphabets in Hindi Marathi and Hindi at all. Before Google input tool I use the Marathi language which I set in regional language-keyboard-Marathi but it types Hindi letters instead of Marathi letters. So I dropped it and switched to Google input tool. But, still there is a another problem of selecting proper word. I want to use Marathi typing using Marathi font instead of Hindi font. I appreciate you for providing the better solution for Unicode Marathi typing. I'm ready to switch a better system which will solve my problem and easy to use. "If you really want switch to such system in which you will not get any problem for ever, then i can provide the best solution specially suitable for screen reader users. " As per your thoughts mentioned above I by heart appreciate your efforts to overcome my problem positively. Please suggest me a better solution positively. Waiting to receive a solution from you soon. Thanking you in anticipation. In any case, Google input should not be used by screen reader users. First of all, be clear: 1. Do not use that keyboard layout that does not directly type your local letters. 2. If a different system generates the letter of the desired local letters on the basis of your English type, the problem you are facing is eminent. 3. You have to either face the problem that you raised or use alternate proper typing system. 4. The option of words choice is purely designed for sited person and it contradicts to VI person. 5. Do not seek way out in that system which is contradictory to your context. 6. Even for sited person, Google input is suitable in web pages but it creates problem in some applications. If you really want switch to such system in which you will not get any problem for ever, then i can provide the best solution specially suitable for screen reader users. However, you have to determined to abandon what you are using now. Otherwise, problem is eminent in your contemporary use. I surprised why our VI friends want the same speed of motor cycle in cycle. If you change the vehicle, you have to practice the new system of the new vehicle. The desire of our Tamil friend is a good example of traditional stickiness. It is the man who should be compatible to technology but all technologies will not fulfill every person's wish and habitability. Sorry for speaking bitter words of the ground reality. It is a fact and solution. On 3/9/15, Mukesh Baviskar <[email protected]> wrote:Hi, To use phonetic keyboard for typing Marathi I installed Google input toolwhich is working fine. But, I'm facing a problem of selecting a properword in Marathi options after typing a phonetic English word for it. Thepronunciation of most words are similar which is a main problem for me.For example: To typing my name 'Mukesh' After typing a spelling 'Mukesh' I'm getting following options: मुकेश मूकेश मुकेष मूकेष मुकेस मूकेस The first one is correct but how can I choose a correct word because the pronunciation of both options is similar? However, if you desire so, Ijust suggest you to understand the following reality. Just understand, what action to take is your decision.1. Typewriter layout were designed for typewriter, a different machineat that time when no one has listen the word 'Computer'. At the beginning of the computer use in this region; to please those person who were familiar, to typewriter and make them to switch computer, the typewriter layout was introduced in computer system which was basically a wrong approach. It means what you were taught was aoutcome of the idea of making please of old typists in passed decades. If the leading personality of computer technology introducing at the beginning may not have tried to please handful typists of that time, today millions people who use computer in their daily life would not b in problem as you are facing today. What you learn is inappropriate. 2. Phonetic layout suits for those person who frequently use English and local language. 3. Traditional layout does not suit for screen reader users. But, finally if you still prefer traditional layout, just adopt the Microsoft made Tamil layout. it has many benefits. a. It is already available in your computer and will always be infuture too. It is not necessary to download and install from outside.b. This layout will be available in any computer having windows operating system installed. It means you can type Tamil in anycomputer of the world. If you use a particular layout, you may not beable to type in that computer in which your layout is not installed. 4. However, what ever layout to use, for a visually impaired person; the layout which has the following characteristics is appropriate to screen reader user. a. It must not type more than one character on single key press (no macro!). b. It should not have an option in which more than one key press is needed to generate one character (multi key press type single letter!).c. It should not have assigned control or alt keys for typing purposes(No use of modifie for typingr!). That's the key point to understand. On 3/8/15, Jayachandran. Here in Tamil Nadu, There are few e mail groups, in which all the visually challenged people are writing mails in Tamil. Among them, few are using NHM writer keyboard, Indic keyboard and other keyboards.Since I have finished Tamil typewriting both lower and higher when Iwas having good sight, I am not interested to use these phoenetic keyboards. I dont want to learn some other keyboard layouts. Because if I practice some other keyboard layout and I use it regularly, I can forget my typewriting keyboard layout. Moreover, I have very good speed in typewriter layout. In NHM writer by pressing f5 we can go to typewriter keyboard layout.Butthe problem is while we type the Tamil, it doesnt says anything. Butafter when we make it to readout it reads. While typing it doesnt says anything. So, I am unable to use this NHM writer. I used both JAWS and NVDA. If anybody using typewriter keyboard layouts for their regional languages, can also guide me. I may try to use Tamil typewriter keyboard layoutin the same option if it is available. Could anybody can guide me in this issue. Thanks in advance. Jayachandran. T 9677294410 ---This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
