You're using software from Sony? There's been no
excuse for breaking files at 2Gb for quite some time.
If this software is supposedly designed for Windows XP
or 2000 or Mac OS 9.1 or later, I'd be complaining to
Sony or whomever produced it. Software written
specifically for Windows 2000 and later and Mac OS 9.1
and later should be able to work with 2+ Gig files.
If it's SonyWare, don't hold your breath over getting
any updates or patches. I have a Mavica CD-250 camera
and they never released any updates to the software
that shipped with it. (Never made it available to
download either! Fortunately XP SP2 added direct drive
access for the CD Mavica line.)
Windows 2000 and XP when installed on FAT32 have a
maximum filesize of 4Gb. With NTFS there's no
practical maximum size.
Windows 95, 95a, 95-OSR2, 98, 98SE and Me have a
maximum 2Gb filesize- with FAT16 or FAT32.
Mac OS 9.1 and later with HFS+ also have no practical
maximum filesize. I don't recall which was the first
Mac OS version to support files over 2Gb- it was
probably 8.1 with HFS+. With my old NuBus Media100
system, it's coded into the capture software to break
off a new file every 2Gb. But it has no problem
exporting multi-gig files. :)
