Ahhhhh. Now we have some more relevant info.
You don't need to recode to MPEG2. Look up the program
"Smart Ripper". It's very useful even with
non-protected DVDs because it follows the programming
of the DVD to copy video from the DVD in contiguous
files. (The DVD-VR recording method used by some
standalone recorders is especially nasty to work
with.)
Then you can use a de-multiplexer (Demux) to split the
VOB into MP2 (MPEG2 video only stream) and whatever
audio format, either AC3 or PCM (Or MPEG1 Layer 2) was
used.
THEN you should be able to edit it in AP.
