Hello Rieni,
First in regard to flaming, it is my opinion that saying what someone writes
is ignorant and saying they are ignorant is a pretty thin line. I can get
my point across without having to make derogatory statements.
We need to rise above this fray, remember never wrestle (or as we say in the
South, wrassle) with a pig, you both get muddy and the pig likes it.
(Philip, in no way is this to be considered me calling you a pig, it is just
a general statement about how disagreements can digress to something less
than constructive)
I have been doing some research on digital tape dropouts, I have received
tapes from one particular shooter who was shooting with a GL2 and was
getting digital dropouts every 5 min. or so. He has since sent the camera to
Canon for servicing, I'll see if it is corrected by them. It seems from
reading that although both DV and HDV use the same 25mbs data rate, HDV uses
the long GOP compression that may increase the occurrence of digital
dropouts. The cause of digital dropouts can be caused by two things, the
ability of the recording device to deliver the correct data to the tape and
the tapes ability to record the data.
http://www.dvbuyer.co.uk/details.php?mn=0&PID=247 , although this is coming
from someone selling high end tapes and should be considered before taking
it as "fact", I think it makes some valid points. What do you think? As I
read it, it pretty much says the same as you did concerning picture quality
and dropout issues.
Best Regards,
Richard Peoples
