Ryan your question is a little bit more complicated to answer because the answer is “it depends”. For a smaller cnWave network you can enable the onboard E2E controller and it supports mesh/PMP/PTP. In this case there is no requirement to use cnMaestro although it will be advantageous to use it as the NMS especially as the network grows. The free version of cnMaestro will handle PTP and PMP but for a mesh configuration you would need a subscription to X. As an alternative to cnMaestro X you could use the Terragraph NMS but you would be on your own (or dependent upon Facebook) for support.
