+1 what Ken said.

I would probably buy some, not specifically for NLOS though. We would
use them where we use a CLIP now in 5 GHz. So we wouldn’t buy a ton
of them, maybe 20% of 3.65 SMs. I guess it would depend on the price,
if it cost $200 more than a regular SM, then we would probably tell
most people sorry, you’re getting a reflector dish.
But for example, I have a bare SM at a tollway oasis now that could
use a little more antenna gain, but with the mounting restrictions, we
can’t use a reflector dish (it’s an MTOW attached to the privacy fence
on the rooftop). I would go back and put an integrated panel there if
one was available, because it is a business customer and the extra
margin would be worth the money.

Couple of things…
We are definitely looking into putting the 3.65 PMP 450 SM into a high
gain panel in order to provide a solution (that’s not an offset
reflector). We feel like this could represent the right balance
between gain and directionality to increase the chances of working
better in near and Non-LOS situations.
We believe that this could be approved under our existing FCC grant.
I don’t have a timeline on this yet… but is there interest in this
from you guys?
Also, the 5 GHz PMP 450i was certified for 5.8 GHz under 15.247.

But what about new equipment authorizations? I think the timing in
the 450i was to get it in before the old 5 GHz rules turned into a
pumpkin. I’m wondering if it is still possible to get new or modified
equipment approved under Part 90.
Actually, I’ll have to read the test report on the 450i to see if they
went with 15.247 or 15.407 for 5.7 GHz.

Yes, I remember Steve saying that. Equipment can still be
manufactured, sold and used under Part 90, if you have the NN license
anyway.

It’s still a question I don’t know the answer to. If any 3650
equipment manufacturer, even Mercury or Telrad, wanted to
release some new hardware variant at this point, could they?
Or are equipment approvals in the same boat as NN licenses?

I think the 450i is only going to be 5GHz.
We'd probably be better off asking WB or KP to make us a 3GHz
panel for use with the connectorized SM. Or... maybe a slant
SuperStinger so we don't have to buy the more expensive
connectorized SM. That didn't work out so well for 2.4, but
maybe 3.6 is possible?

I should know the answer, but is there going to be an
integrated panel version of the 3.65 GHz SM?
My real question, I guess, is whether new equipment
approvals can go through under the old Part 90 rules? Or
has the FCC essentially frozen the equipment market in
that band for the next year or so? An integrated 12-15
inch diamond shaped panel would have been nice, although
I’d probably settle for some better choices of external
dual slant panels that don’t cost an arm and a leg but
also aren’t junk.
Maybe something like this, except it doesn’t seem to
actually exist in real life, and judging from other Mars
panels, would be way too expensive:

Regarding /official/ launch and availability… the PMP 450i
is scheduled to be publicly announced and officially
released in July. We will have several sets of Beta test
and demo equipment around in late June, so you’ll be
seeing it around more at that time.

Its too bad I did not get 150 of those instead of the
regular ones.
next batch I will get a few of em to let our techs
install. They are already
had a heads up about this and have been waiting for me to
order them.

Nah… if it were, it would be the i450.
The “i” is very special and means different things to
different folks… this thing is much more than just
“integrated”. It’s the next generation of hardware,
and brings more performance to the table (both
physical and RF).
Keep the questions coming.

So....the "i" is for "integrated" antenna?
Or is there something more special about it?
