Not as bad as chains either.

Studs are great. People say they tear up roads... They kinda do, but not as bad as truck+trailers.

But Blizzaks are about as soft as Coax-Seal if the temperature
gets above 40 degrees. 300 mile drives at 75-80 are going to chew
them up, unless it’s really cold. Also, watch out for those steel
grate roadways over the river in Chicago, the Blizzaks will lock
in and your steering will have a mind of its own.
But yeah, they bite into snow. Nothing on ice like studs though. At least that’s what I remember. They’ve been illegal in Illinois
    for decades.
The tire dealer I go to has the studdable Nokian Hakkapeliittas in
their showroom. What, do you have to certify you are taking them
out of the state before mounting them on a vehicle?

I typically do 75-80 between Chicago and home. About 300 miles. 2 years ago NYE was a pretty good sized storm.
    Blizzaks are where it's at.

I too have done 80 on snow and ice, in a Jeep Liberty 4WD w/ a
        slight
        lift and studded tires.

The scubarus behind me got stuck in the drifts - not enough
        ground clearance.

The pickup trucks skidded off the road when the rear end
        slipped - no
        weight in the back.
