Having been through a house fire where everything you own is lost, I would have sent someone out immediately to help them restore service.
A few days after the fire, my regular UPS driver stopped by and asked if there was anything he could do. He said he saw the smoke and immediately knew which house it was. He offered to take up a collection at work for clothes or any other needs. The generosity of strangers has always amazed me.
