Interesting that AF11x xmt power is +30 at QPSK compared to +27 for an IP20. But at 1024QAM the AF11x apparently is down to +18, while the IP20 can do +23. So it may be more inclined to modulate down, but be more robust at the lower modulation. Ideally you would subtract rcv sensitivity from xmt power at each modulation to get a graph of system margin for comparison, I’m either too lazy or insufficiently curious.
I do have to agree with Mike that DC power but no optical data interface is a strange choice. Even if they replaced the MGMT port with an SFP cage, you could always use a copper SFP if you wanted OOB mgmt. on copper. Hard to believe this was a major cost factor, was there just not room for an SFP? Oh, and regarding size, isn’t that kind of a small case to dissipate 36 watts? I see it does have fins on the back. I know of a company that already has 8 links deployed that they replaced existing radios with. They built their own radio core. (Second time for UBNT, if you count Invictus core and then this one... Not counting the ones they made before UBNT.) You underestimate them a lot. They're making more money across the board and investing even more money in R&D and labor than they ever have. The past few years they've made major internal changes, and things are just now starting to bare fruit from those decisions. They also have a huge cash reserve, and it wouldn't surprise me at all for them to start making acquisitions if they choose to.
