The point is bad behavior is bad behavior. Lack of enforcement is a valid concern and a separate topic. Using artificially high Prices as a barrier of entry in a Tech field, ends up to be a very bad thing (for many reasons).
I am happy to see USA based companies taking the lead in re-defining the licensed radio industry, it is hard not to notice that bulk of the Licensed Radio mfg are not USA based companies. It is easy to throw out sound bytes, but it takes a bit more depth in thinking and evaluation of such statements in a more 'big picture' global perspective. Besides, it is a far cry to compare 3.65 where the gear cost less than $300 vs $3000-$4500 licensed link. Yes AF11x is cheap, but a complete link is still north of $3k. So far in the context of Licensed Radios, the only ones I have seen complaining about this change are two groups of folks.. The Coordinators (because they have to do more work) and the vendor / distributors of the Other Radios (cause there is perception of making less money) The Big Picture Facts are, as a WISP, for our next Gen platforms, we need to be delivering 100/200/300/500 meg of BW, so that we can stay in business, or face the possibility of becoming irrelevant. To delivery such, we need more tools in the tool bag, yes not every tool is perfect, each has it's advantage and short comings. Use the tool for it's strength, and use something different to overcome it's weaknesses. I for one am all for encouraging more and more Mfg to compete in the delivery of next gen products, be innovative, think out side the box, offer us more tools, and feel free to re-define the status quo ! Encouragement, is what we should be doing, pooh poohing them would be foolish... BTW, I still remember such conversations about the UBNT M5 products when they started to become available, there was a lot of pooh phooing from the Motorola Canopy Camp.... well in hind-sight it is easy to say that Motorola Canopy was a better product, but UBNT expanded the size of the Fixed Wireless Market Place.. I have been in the Computer/Tech industry for a very long time... The one thing I have learned and observed time and time again is that... Any Company who has the Passion for expanding the size of the Market Place will beat out any other company who does not have such passion, even if they have the better product. Microsoft is a very classic example of such, So is UBNT, and Apple in the Smart Phone Business. :) Faisal Imtiaz Snappy Internet & Telecom 7266 SW 48 Street Miami, FL 33155 Tel: 305 663 5518 x 232 Help-desk: (305)663-5518 Option 2 or Email: [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Seth Mattinen" <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Sent: Sunday, November 20, 2016 11:21:38 AM > Subject: Re: [AFMUG] [WISPA Members] Who will have AF-11X First? > On 11/20/16 6:37 AM, Faisal Imtiaz wrote: >> >> Trying to make the argument that cheaper radios = breaking the law , while >> anecdotaly possible, would be FUD. >> > > It is a fact in NN where I'm located, but NN lacked enforcement.
